Eve.
Three months ago.
The day of the incident.
After Jason had left, I sat down in the living room still watching television.
Max came afterwards to tell me about how Ethan finally made the best proposal to him but I wasn’t paying attention. I couldn’t pay attention, I couldn’t help but feel like something bad was going to happen. And I was right.
“Are you even listening to what I’m saying?” Max asked with a loud huff and I rolled my eyes.
So dramatic!
“I’m listening.” I lied and he scoffed.
“Okay, what was the last thing I said?” He asked with a smirk on his face.
“You asked if I was listening to you.” I said, smirking back.
“You’re so annoying!” He said, shaking his head.
“I’m just bothered.” I mumbled quietly.
“Bothered about what?” He asked and I sighed.
“Jason?” He asked and I nodded my head.
“He’ll be fine, it’s just a small conversation, nothing’s going to happen.” Max said assuringly and I managed a small smile on my face.
“Okay, tell me how Ethan confessed to you again.” I said and Max smiled before filling me with the whole details.
After listening to the whole thing, I still didn’t get why Max wanted another proposal when he already said yes to the first one and neither did I get how the second proposal was better than the first but as long as it made Max happy, I felt happy too.
After all, it’s not my proposal.
I feel like as long as Jason says he wants to marry me again and gives me a beautiful ring, I would still say yes because of how much I love him.
Speaking of Jason …
I looked at the time and two hours had passed since he left the house and it was getting late already.
“Is Ethan coming to pick you up?” I asked Max and he nodded his head happily.
“Eve!” Mom ran out of her room screaming my name.
“Mom?” I said getting up from where I sat feeling confused.
I was confused as to why she was screaming my name.
“Put it to the News.” She said to Max who was closer to the remote control.
We both looked at her like she had grown two horns but Max did as he was told nevertheless.
“A ghastly accident took place on the highway earlier today with a black sports car crashing into an incoming truck.”
“Experts say it was due to the brake failure in the sports car, the victim however was identified to be Jason Coleman, Director of Jason’s Tech company and has currently been rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.”
“Paramedics at the scene say that it would be a miracle if he survives due to the collision of the vehicle to the incoming truck.”
“The police will be doing further investigation on the issue.”
“Next, Korean idol singer – IU released….”
I didn’t even listen to the second news because I stopped thinking the moment I heard Jason’s name on the television.
“We have to go to the hospital now.” Mom said to me but it sounded like they were talking to me from a distance.
I felt my world crash and crumble.
Just when I was beginning to be happy, everything went wrong once again.
“Eve!”
“Eve, snap out of it!” Max was the one who was yelling my name now.
I felt weak to my bones and so I sat down on the chair slowly and I felt tears fill my eyes.
“Let’s go to the hospital.” Mom said and I looked at her and nodded my head.
This wasn’t the time to cry. It’s the time to be strong for Jason and most especially for my unborn child.
I managed to drag my weak body outside with Max, Grandma Nini and Mom.
We got into the Mercedes C300 and Max was the one who drove us to the hospital.
Once we got to the hospital, Max asked the receptionist where Jason, who was just brought inside, was taken to and she told us where to go.
Once we got there, Mom was the one who opened the curtain and what we saw wasn’t quite good.
His whole body was bandaged and I could barely recognize him.
The only thing that made me sure that it was Jason was his face that wasn’t fully bandaged.
All the parts of his body including his head were bandages except his face so he could see, breathe and talk when he became conscious.
“Is he alright?” Mom asked the doctor who came up to check up on him.
“Yes, he’s fine.” The doctor said and I raised my brows.
“He’s alive?” I asked and he chuckled.
“Of Course he’s alive.” The doctor said.
“But the news..” I mumbled.
“The News was just exaggerating. Although he was badly injured when he was brought here.”
“He broke his right leg and sustained a few injuries on some parts of his body due to the burns but thanks to the airbag in his car and some great features in the car that reduced the impact of the collision on his body, he was able to survive.” The doctor explained and I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding.
“So he’s fine?” I asked again and he nodded.
“What about his leg?, Will it heal?” I asked and he sighed.
“The impact might have been reduced but because his right leg was stuck to the chair when the car hit the truck, it broke his bones a little bit so he’ll be in a wheelchair for a while.” The doctor said and my face fell.
“Wheelchair?” Mom mumbled, her voice croaked from holding back her tears perhaps.
“It will heal but It will take a while, every individual will heal at a different place, it might take three months, six months or even a year for him to be able to get back on his feet.” The doctor said,
“He’ll be transferred to a better ward soon and he’ll wake up in a few hours.” The doctor said and mom nodded her head in response.
He injected a few shots in the drip that was attached to Jason before leaving the room.
We all fell silent.
There was nothing to say after all.
All that we could do was watch.
As for me, I was at a loss for words.
I simply watched how they moved him from the emergency unit to a VIP private ward.
I sat down on the sofa in the new Ward watching how everybody took turns in coming to come and see him and then turning to me to say something but leaving without saying anything because I didn’t spare them a glance or take my eyes off Jason who laid almost lifeless on the bed.
