Chapter 116

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Jason.
I was with Eve when I received a call from Alice.
I was sitting down on the chair while Eve was laying in my embrace.
At first, I wasn’t going to pick up but knowing the reason behind her call would be none other than her delusions that I’m the cause of her misery, I picked up.
After all, our destinies were already connected and can’t be severed so it’s best I accept it.
“Excuse me.” I mumbled to Eve who was laying in my embrace.
“Where are you going to?” She groaned in annoyance.
“Sorry baby.” I said quietly and she blushed and moved away so I could leave.
I left and went far enough to the garden so she wouldn’t hear my conversation with Alice.
“Hello?” I whispered.
“Let’s meet.” She said and hung up before I could say anything.
What the!
Soon, I received a text message from her indicating where we should meet up.
I quickly went back into the house only to meet Eve standing there with a frown on her face.
“Where are you going to?” She asked, still frowning.
“I need to get somewhere.” I said not wanting to disclose where I was going.
I didn’t want to stress her by telling her I was going to see Alice.
“You’re going to the station again?” She asked and my eyes widened.
How did she know I’ve been going to the station?
“Don’t go there.” She said not giving me space to reply.
“I have a feeling that something bad is going to happen especially since that sly Alice isn’t going to be there.” She said with a loud huff.
Is she a psychic?
How does she know all that?
“I’ll be fine.” I said assuringly.
“Don’t go, I’m scared.” She said quietly.
“I’ll be fine, I promise. I’ll come back to you unscathed.”
“We’re just going to talk.” I said assuringly.
“Okay, fine, I’ll let you go.” She said and I smiled.
I pecked her lips and wore my shoes before leaving the house and driving to the location that Alice asked me to come to.
When I got there, I parked my car in the parking space and got out of the car.
The place seemed oddly familiar like I’ve been here before but I can’t remember when.
I was currently at the Park but this side of the park seemed to be a private property seeing that there were not many people around.
Or maybe the right words to use would be that it was a park reserved for the rich.
I walked around for a long time until I spotted Alice standing under a tree.
So unusual.
And what’s more unusual is that her clothes were not revealing at all, they were rather dark and gloomy and so unlike her.
“You’re here.” She said with her voice void of emotions.
“Yeah.” I mumbled quietly.
“Do you remember this place?” She asked but it was more of a rhetorical question seeing as she didn’t wait for me to answer but told me the story herself.
“We were still kids, I think I was ten years old, my dad said we were meeting important people and that Mark and I shouldn’t misbehave and so I tried my best to put forth my best behaviour but Mark being the mischievous child that he is, decided to do something stupid.” She said and chuckled.
“That day, I feared that Mark would get scolded but you stood up for him.”
“For your age, you were oddly smart and graceful.”
“I can’t remember the exact words but you said something about Confucius teaching that stunned my dad, not that he believes it in anyways but atleast Mark wasn’t scolded.” She said and smiled to herself while I listened with rapt attention.
“I think that’s when it started.”
“I think that’s when I started to like you.” She said and laughed to herself once again.
I didn’t bother to say anything.
Only one thing crossed my mind.
Perhaps if she’s calm, I can convince her to confess and own up to her crime.
And I’ll even help her get a lighter sentence.
“When I met you once again in highschool, I thought it was fate that was bringing us closer.”
“And once again, we met at this privately owned park but you wouldn’t remember.”
“My friends were urging me to talk to you and they pushed me into your arms, you caught me and asked me to be careful, that day, I thought my heart would jump right out of my chest.”
“And then when we both got drunk at the inauguration party for you and had sex for the first time, I thought we would finally be together.” She said and sighed heavily.
Everywhere was silent for a while before she continued.
“But not once did you ever look at me.”
“Not once did you ever care about me or about my feelings.”
“And that’s because I was never the one for you.” She said and chuckled.
“I should have known I wasn’t the one for you, when Eve waltz into your life for the first time and all your focus shifts towards her.” Her voice was getting lower and lower.
“I should have known.” She whispered finally but I could still hear her.
“Is that why you tried to kill her?” I asked and she laughed.
“Try to kill her?” She scoffed.
“I would have done it myself but I was too fickle. I was scared and so I asked Sophie to do my binding and she did!”
“Why?”
“Because I was holding her brother hostage.” She said laughing like a Maniac now.
“Sophie was going to take the fall for my failed murder attempt on Eve but Mark just had to forcefully rape him and to cover it up, Dwayne died.” She said and my eyes widened.
“So Mark killed Dwayne?” I asked and she sighed and looked at the floor.
“I didn’t mean to, I didn’t realise he was so weak and I pushed him, he hit his head so hard that he died.” She was already crying by now.
“Alice.” I called quietly.
“You can get a lower sentence.” I said quietly.
“What?” She snapped her head towards me.
“Just tell the truth.” I said.
“Tell the police that you didn’t mean to do it, I can also forgive you for trying to hurt Eve, after all, she’s fine now.” I said and she looked away.
“You’re right.” She mumbled and I raised my brows.
“I am?” I asked confused and she looked at me again and nodded.
“I’ll go to the station and confess now.” She said and I smiled.
“Thankyou for coming to see me.”
“Thankyou for giving me the time to sort out all that I had to do.” She said and I nodded.
“Should I go with you?” I asked and she shook her head.
“I need to sort out some things first.” She said and soon she was gone.
I didn’t think it would be so easy to talk to Alice.
Knowing the kind of person she was, having this kind of conversation with her with nothing happening is suspicious.
I sighed heavily and walked back to my car.
I quickly sent my recorded conversation with Alice to detective Dave. I didn’t want to forget.
That was my reason for coming here anyways.
Even if she changes her mind and decides not to confess, I already have her confession recorded so she can’t escape it now.
I soon got to the parking lot and walked towards my car.
I opened it and entered inside.
I ignited the engine and drove out of the parking lot. I’m currently on my way to tell Eve – in your face.
After all, she said something was going to…
I was already on the highway and my brakes weren’t working anymore.
Thankyou for giving me the time to sort out all that I had to do.
Is this Alice’s doing?
I should have known she wasn’t going to let me go that easily.
I kept on hitting the brakes but It wasn’t working, instead my accelerator was kicking off and the car was driving faster.
I’m really not ready to die yet.
I still have to propose to Eve and watch my child grow in her belly and when he or she finally comes out in less than seven months, I plan on giving a very beautiful name to him or her.
I guess I won’t be able to do that anymore.
I ran into an incoming truck and I blacked out.
