Eve.
“Here.” Jason said, giving me a napkin to clean my face. He had a look of disgust on his face while I ate the pineapple pizza.
He kept grumbling about how it was wrong to put fruits on a sacred meal like pizza.
Since when did pizza become sacred anyways?
Regardless of anything, I couldn’t care less about what he had to say because I enjoyed every bit of the meal.
After we were done eating, we talked about other stuff and that led me to the question that has been lingering on my mind for a while.
“Jason.” I called softly.
“Yeah?” He answered quietly.
“Can I ask you a question?” I asked quietly.
“Sure, anything for you my love.” He said and I blushed.
“Anything?” I asked again to be sure.
“Yeah, anything.” He answered and I smiled.
“Why won’t you tell me what’s going on?” I asked seriously.
“What do you mean?” He asked and I rolled my eyes.
“You know what I mean.” I said quietly.
“You’re going to have to be more specific.” He said and I sighed heavily.
“Tell me what happened with Sophie.” I said sternly.
“What happened with Sophie?” He asked like he didn’t know.
“Seriously, you said I could ask you anything!” I said with a slightly raised voice.
“Calm down Eve, I’m just trying to protect you.” He said and I scoffed.
“You need to tell me what’s going on first.” I said and he sighed.
“Eve, all what I’m doing is for your own good.” He said and I sighed too.
“I have to know what’s going on so I can feel protected. How am I supposed to protect myself if I don’t know why I’m in danger?” I asked with a frown.
“You’re not in danger!” He said immediately and I scoffed.
“You’re lying, you avoid eye contact when you’re lying.” I said pointing out the fact that he looked away from me the moment he said I wasn’t in danger.
“Why won’t you tell me what’s going on?” I asked quietly.
“I can’t be with you twenty four seven.” I reminded him and he looked away once again.
“When I’m not with you, mom will be with you or Grandma Nini, and if bad turns to worse, I’ll get bodyguards to watch over you.” He said with a shrug.
“What if the bodyguards are the ones that are out to kill me?” I snapped.
“Eve!” He snapped.
“What?” I snapped back.
“You won’t die!” He said angrily.
“I will die if I can’t protect myself!” I yelled angrily.
“You won’t die, please, stop saying that.” He begged.
“I’ll protect you, you don’t need to protect yourself!” He said quietly and I sighed deeply.
“Why won’t you tell me?” I asked quietly but he didn’t say anything.
“Why won’t you tell me?” I repeated a little louder than before.
“Because I also don’t know!” He whisper-yelled.
“I don’t know who’s after you or if you’re in danger.”
“Sophie is in jail but that doesn’t mean that the people I suspect to be behind it are in jail.” He said.
“The people you suspect?” I mumbled and his eyes widened. I’m guessing he realised he said something he wasn’t supposed to say.
“Who do you suspect?” I asked and he shrugged in response.
“No one.” He mumbled.
“Why are you so strong headed?” I snapped once more.
“This is about me and our unborn child, I have a right to know what’s going on!”
“If you don’t tell me, I’m going to ask jade and you know he’ll tell me.” I threatened and he gave in.
“Fine!”
“I’ll tell you.” He said quietly.
“I think Alice is behind it.” He said and I raised my brows in confusion.
“Alice?” I asked and he nodded.
“Why would you think so?” I asked and he furrowed his brows in confusion.
“She doesn’t like you.” He mumbled probably in embarrassment since he had to say something like that.
“I’m aware.” I reminded him.
“She’s obsessed with me.” He said scratching his nape.
“I’m also aware and I can relate.” I said teasingly and he smiled.
“Anyways, you know why she’s my suspect. She fits in every category of what I suspect.” He said and I nodded in understanding.
“Then why isn’t she locked up yet?” I asked.
“Evidence.” He mumbled.
“Right.” I mumbled under my breath.
“There’s no evidence against her and the only person that can actually bring her in for questioning would be Sophie but she’s not talking.” He grumbled.
“She’s pleading the fifth?” I asked and he shook his head.
“No, she’s insisting that Alice has nothing to do with it and she did it on her own.” Jason said and I could tell he was frustrated from his voice.
“Sorry.” I mumbled loud enough for him to hear me and he smiled a sad smile.
Silence filled the room once more until I spoke up again.
“You said people.” I said, reminding him of his slip up.
“People?” He asked in confusion.
“You said you have people you suspect.” I reminded him and he mouthed an “oh”.
“Yeah, your friend.” He mumbled with a frown imminent on his face.
“My friend?” I asked with raised brows.
“Yes, Mark.” He mumbled.
“Mark?” I repeated, unsure of who he was talking about.
“Yeah, that guy from the stables that you were hugging.” He huffed in annoyance and I laughed.
“We weren’t hugging, I almost got kicked by a horse so he saved me from that.” I explained and instead of understanding, it seemed to have riled him up.
“So you’re saying that he’s your saviour?” Jason said and i bursted into laughter.
“Saviour?” I said laughing.
“I mean you said he saved your life.” He huffed once more.
“If he saved my life, shouldn’t he be prince charming instead?” I teased and he hissed.
“Prince charming.” He mumbled under his breath but I heard him anyway.
“You’re my prince charming.” I said smiling and he smiled back.
“So cheesy.” He mumbled and blushed and I laughed.
Says the person who was freaking jealous minutes ago.
“So what has Mark got to do with this?” I asked bringing him back to the conversation at hand.
“You don’t know?” He asked and I frowned.
“Know what?” I asked in confusion.
“You don’t know that Mark is Alice’s older brother?” Jason said dropping the bomb shell.
“W-what?” I muttered.
“Mark is Alice’s older brother?” I repeated like he didn’t just say that.
“Yeah.” He said quietly and I sighed.
“We didn’t really talk at length. I mean we haven’t talked about our lives, we just exchanged pleasantries so I didn’t know that.” I rambled on and he squeezed my thigh.
“It’s fine, I know you’re surprised, I should have told you, It slipped my mind and I’m sorry about that.” He said apologetically and I nodded in understanding.
“It’s fine.” I said truthfully.
“So you’re saying that Alice and Mark are up in cahoots to get rid of me?” I asked and he shook his head.
“I don’t know that but one thing I know is that they are dangerous.” He said quietly and I sighed deeply before lying on the bed and looking at him.
“I love you.” I said randomly and he smiled.
“Well, that was random.” He said smiling.
“I’m telling you I love you because I do.” I said smiling too and he nodded.
“I love you more.” He said and I laughed.
“Well, that’s up for debate.” I said and he chuckled.
“Let’s lie down together and worry about it together.” I said scooting a bit so there was space for him to lie by my side.
“Let’s do everything together.” I said tapping that empty space on the bed as a go ahead and he nodded before getting in the bed with me.
“Together.” He mumbled and we both slept side by side on the bed.
We fell asleep in each other’s embrace.
We’ll worry about other things tomorrow, for now, it’s just the two of us in each other’s arms and that’s all that matters.
