Chapter 101

Jason.
The moment I woke up, I felt sore in all the parts of my body. The hospital bed wasn’t made to accommodate two people after all.
Eve was still very much asleep so I just got out of the bed and went to wash my face and take a bath.
By the time I got back, she was already awake and the doctor was here.
“Mrs Coleman, you’re free to be discharged this morning.” The doctor said with a smile on his face.
Is he eager to let us or what?
“Good morning doctor.” I said loud enough so he would notice my presence in the room.
“Oh morning, Mr Coleman.” He said moving away so I could pass.
I nodded in acknowledgement and walked towards the bed where Eve laid.
“Are you going to visit the obstetrician this morning?” The doctor asked and I shook my head.
“We’re not?” Eve seemed surprised.
“We’ll go after breakfast.” I said smiling at her and she smiled.
“I’ll leave you be.” The doctor said walking out of the room.
Why am I so cranky this morning?
Is it because I didn’t sleep well?
“Are you alright?” He asked, seeing the frown imminent on my face.
“Yes, I’m okay.” I lied and instantly changed my demeanour.
“Let’s go get breakfast then.” She said getting up from the bed but I stopped her.
“Nope, you’ll have to get discharged first.” I said quietly.
“Why?, We can get food in the cafeteria.” She said pouting.
“Are you hungry?” I asked and she nodded.
“Okay, why don’t you get changed into normal clothes?, I brought some for you, and while you do that I’ll go process your discharge.” I said and she nodded happily.
I gave her the bag where I kept her clothes before disappearing to go get her discharged.
I paid the hospital bill and returned to the room. She was already dressed by the time I got there.
“Let’s go get breakfast.” She said the moment she saw me and I chuckled.
“Let’s go.” I said extending my hands and she smiled before taking my hands.
We walked hand in hand out of the hospital and I drove us to get breakfast.
“I want to eat meat.” She said happily as I drove and I nodded in response.
I drove to a steak restaurant but what happened afterwards wasn’t what I expected.
“Steak?” She said with an irritated look the moment she came down from the car and saw the sign board outside.
“You don’t want it?” I asked in confusion and she shook her head.
“I thought you said you wanted meat?” I asked, still confused by her sudden change in behaviour.
“Let’s get a burger.” She said all of a sudden.
“Burger?” I asked with raised brows.
“I’ll eat the meat, you’ll eat the bread.” She said and I chuckled.
“What’s funny?” She asked and I shook my head but I was still smiling.
“What’s funny?” She asked again, frowning.
“Why should I eat the bread?” I asked.
“I don’t want to.” She said with an eye roll.
“Then don’t.” I said as a matter of fact.
“That would be wasting food.” She said frowning and I laughed.
“You’re the one who doesn’t want to eat the bread remember.” I reminded her and she pouted her lips.
She looked so cute as she pouted that I wanted to kiss it away.
“So you won’t eat the bread?” She asked and I sighed.
“I’ll eat the bread, let’s go get the burger.” I said getting back into the car before she could say something else.
She also got into the car but she was quiet.
We soon got to the fast food restaurant and we got out of the car and walked into the restaurant.
We sat down on the table close to the window but she still wasn’t saying anything.
It was odd for Eve to be quiet.
Not that she’s a loud person but she’s also not quiet either.
“Eve, are you alright?” I asked and she huffed and still kept quiet.
“Eve?” I called again but she looked away.
Is she sulking because I refused to eat the bread?
Why would she suggest that anyways?
I’m rich enough to afford this whole shop and yet I have to eat the bread from her burgers because she doesn’t want to waste food.
I ordered meat burgers soon after and we both ate our meals. Ofcourse, I didn’t eat the bread.
Eve ate the burgers and still didn’t say anything.
She kept answering my questions in monotones and I was getting worried.
“Should we go to the OB-GYN now?” I asked and she nodded before getting into the car.
We arrived at the OB-GYN that was recommended by the doctor and we were asked to wait until it was time for our appointment.
“Eve Coleman.” One of the nurses yelled out Eve’s name and we were ushered inside a room where the doctor was waiting for us.
“Good morning.” The doctor said and Eve nodded in response.
“Good morning doctor.” I said and took my seat alongside Eve who still didn’t say anything but kept a frown on her face now.
“You’re here for a check up for your baby right?” The doctor asked and I nodded while Eve looked away.
“Is this your first child?” The doctor asked.
“Yes.” I said quietly.
“Oh, that’s why.” She mumbled but I heard her anyway.
“That’s why what?” I asked almost immediately.
“I mean, did something happen before you came here?” The doctor asked, confusing me even more.
“I..” I didn’t know what to say. Or how to say it.
Is Eve sulking because of the burger incident?
I turned to face Eve who was looking away from me.
“Baby.” I called quietly and she turned to look at me with a look of surprise on her face.
“I’m sorry I didn’t eat your bread.” I said quietly and she pouted.
“I’m not angry.” She said and I chuckled.
“I didn’t say you were.” I said with a smug smile and she smacked me playfully.
“Shall we get started now?” The doctor who was watching us the whole time asked and we both nodded in response.
“Okay, will you lie down on the bed for me?” She asked Eve who nodded before getting up from where she sat and walking towards the small bed.
She laid on the bed and the doctor walked towards her and I followed her.
“So I’m going to lift your clothes up for a bit.” She said and then did as she said.
“This is going to be a bit cold.” She said before pouring some gel on Eve’s belly and rubbing her stomach with equipment I didn’t know.
“Look at the screen.” She said to me who was still staring at the equipment because I was intrigued by it.
I did as I was told and that’s when I saw my baby. And as Eve said yesterday, it was really the size of a gummy bear.
“That’s your baby.” The doctor said and I smiled.
“It’s the size of a gummy bear.” The doctor and I said at the same time and we both laughed.
“I know what nickname to give to our baby now.” Eve said sniffing.
“And what’s that?” I asked.
“Treasure.” She said quietly and I smiled.
“Because this is our very own treasure.” She said and I smiled again.
“So are you ready to listen to your baby’s heartbeat?” The doctor asked and we nodded in response.
