Jason.
I hurried out of the house just so I could get back to the hospital in time. Since Mom and Grandma Nini wouldn’t need to go back to the hospital that means Eve and I could get a chance to talk about our baby without having to whisper.
I heard giving babies nicknames before they’re born actually makes them healthy and they easily recognize your voice as they’re in the womb.
We have not gone to see an OB-GYN yet but we’ll do that after we get discharged from the hospital.
But for now, I need to get to the hospital fast. I’m excited to be alone with Eve even if it’s not in the comfort of our home.
I drove straight to the hospital and got out of the car. Once I entered the hospital, I saw Max walking out on the other side but he was too far away to hear me and it wouldn’t be wise to call out his name loudly so I didn’t. Instead I went and took the elevator to the second floor where the ward is.
I got out of the elevator and turned to the left to go to the room but I could hear loud yells as I approached the room.
” I even got married to a total stranger just so I could hear good words from all of you but where were you?”
That was Eve and she sounded very angry and broken.
She shouldn’t be yelling, it’s not good for the baby.
“You were pissed off like a child that you didn’t attend my wedding, only your parents did.”
“I needed someone on my side but no one was there.”
“As I walked down the aisle, as I stood on the pulpit and exchanged vows with a man I barely knew, I stood there with the hope that our family would become better and that I might finally receive some love from you all but that still never came.”
Listening to what she was saying kinda made me feel bad.
She barely knew me when we got married, I can’t imagine how scared she was getting married to an unknown person.
What if I wasn’t a good man?
I mean I wasn’t a good man to her then but what if I was even far worse?
What if I was secretly in the mafia or I was a vampire?
Okay, that’s too far fetched but what I’m trying to say is that they easily gave her away just to earn a few pennies and that’s not what family is like.
I guess being born in a poor family is quite different from my world.
I sighed heavily and walked away from the room. I went to stand in front of the elevator so when Isaiah is leaving, he’ll think I just arrived and I won’t have to pretend like I didn’t overhear their conversation together.
In a few minutes as predicted, Isaiah walked towards the elevator where I was standing.
“Hi.” I said awkwardly.
Come to your senses Jason!
Stop being so awkward!
I scolded myself mentally.
“Hi.” He answered quietly.
“Bye.” He mumbled before pressing the button and waiting for the elevator to come.
“Okay.” I said and walked away.
We’ve not actually had a conversation together despite the fact that he’s been coming here for days apart from that day that Max threw a fit and put Eve’s dad in his place.
I walked towards the room and the moment I opened it and entered inside, I saw Eve on the floor crying her eyes out.
“Eve..” I called quietly and she looked up to me.
“Oh Eve!” I mumbled as I crouched down to her level and pulled her into my embrace.
“I’m sorry dear.” I said quietly as she sobbed harder.
“I’m so so sorry.” I kept apologising as I rubbed circles on her back.
She pulled away from my embrace and looked at me with a sad smile.
“You keep apologising when it’s not your fault.” She said and I smiled.
“I’m apologising because I’m at fault too.” I said getting up from the squatting position.
“You’re at fault?” She asked, confused. I helped her get on her feet and we both walked to the bed to sit down.
I helped her lay on the bed instead while I sat on the stool that was close to the bed.
“You’re at fault?” She repeated and I nodded.
“I’m the unknown man you got married to after all.” I said smiling and she looked at me with wide eyes.
“You heard?” She asked and I nodded while smiling.
“I’m sorry.” She said and I frowned.
“Why should you be sorry?, I’m the one who forced you to marry me, remember.” I said quietly and she smiled.
“Thanks to that, we both love each other now, don’t we?” I asked still smiling and she smiled even wider if that was possible.
“I understand that you were angry that’s why you said all those things and it doesn’t in anyway affect what we have now.” I said assuringly and she nodded in understanding.
“As I always said, we might have not started the right way but I’m going to dedicate all my life into loving you and our unborn child.” I mumbled quietly before moving closer to give her a peck on her forehead.
“You’re such a romantic.” Max said as he came into the room and I turned to face him with wide eyes.
Did he hear what I said?
Oh my goodness, did I ruin the surprise?
“Why are you looking at me like you saw a ghost?”
“What?, You didn’t want me to see you guys kissing?” Max scoffed and I smiled.
He didn’t hear what I said.
That’s a relief!
“Anyways, I came to tell Eve that I’m going home, Ethan is waiting for me at the parking lot.” Max said and I raised my brows as if to ask why Ethan didn’t come upstairs.
” I asked him to wait there, he’s stressed out from work, the shop was bustling with customers today.” Max explained as if he read my mind.
“Anyways, since we’ll be coming to the welcome party tomorrow, we’ll see each other then.” Max said, grabbing his bag from the couch and leaving the room.
I turned to face Eve and laughed.
“You guys can continue what you were doing!” Max yelled from outside and Eve joined me to laugh.
What a weird guy! Haha.
