Jason..
We drove back to the hospital only to meet everyone crying with no sign of Eve in the room.
“What’s going on?” I asked in fear.
What happened while I was gone?
Did something bad happen?
Perhaps Eve died and no one cared to call me?
Heyyyyy.. that’s impossible.
That couldn’t have happened, right?
“What’s going on?” I asked again seeing as no one was replying to me.
“Eve is awake!” Mom said, still crying.
“Then where is she?” I asked, confused by their odd behaviours.
“She went for a walk with Max.” Mom said and I raised my brows.
“Then why are you crying?” I asked.
“All of you.” I said pointing at Ethan and grandma Nini who were still crying.
“We’re happy.” Ethan said amidst his tears and I almost smacked him.
“So these are happy tears?” I asked, still confused.
“Yeah.” Grandma Nini said.
“You guys were crying like you lost someone, that’s scary, for a moment, I thought Eve went to the stars.” Jade said and I laughed.
“Went to the stars.” I mumbled.
“That’s so superstitious.” I said laughing.
“My mom said we all become stars when we die.” Jade frowned.
“Okay mama boy.” I said laughing.
“I’m serious!” he said and I smirked playfully.
And in that moment, as if on cue, the door opened revealing Max and Eve at the door.
I got up from my seat immediately. It was like I had seen a ghost.
The last time I saw her, she was lying unconscious on the bed and now, she’s standing at the door laughing about something with Max.
But the moment she turned to enter inside the room and her eyes met mine, I felt my breath hitch and I almost couldn’t breath.
I’m guessing this is the moment people always talk about.
That love at first sight moment.
Where you feel your world stop, like everything is still in motion but you’re the only one who isn’t.
Like your head is in the clouds and your heart beats fast like you have arrhythmia.
“Eve.” I mouthed because I couldn’t barely form words.
I felt tears pool to my eyes and I tried to hold them back but I couldn’t.
I left where I stood and walked towards her only to meet her halfway because she was walking towards me too.
I pulled her into my embrace and hugged her tightly like I didn’t want to ever let her go.
I felt the tears that I fought so hard to keep from trickling down my face and I sobbed hard.
“Let’s leave..” I heard mom whisper to the other and they all left the room leaving Eve and I to our own world.
“I thought I lost you.” I mumbled as I hugged her even tighter than before.
” I-i thought I would never see you again.” I muttered.
“I’m sorry.” I could hear her mumble as she sobbed.
“I’m really really sorry.” She said, sobbing hard.
We both cried in each other’s embrace until all that were left were sniffles. Then we disengaged from the hug and started laughing hard.
“They say if you laugh after crying you’ll get a hairy butt.” I said, still laughing.
We stopped laughing after a while and went to sit down on the bed side by side.
“I missed you.” I said taking her hands in mine and intertwining them.
“I missed you too.” She mumbled quietly.
“You did?” I teased and she nodded.
“I love you Eve, don’t ever do this again.” I said feeling like I was going to start crying again.
“I love you too, I didn’t mean to, I was scared and I slipped.” She said crying again.
“I didn’t know that as I fell, I might not have the chance to wake up and see you again.” She said sobbing. I moved closer to her and put her head on my shoulder.
“Why were you scared?”
“Don’t you think it’s time to tell me now?” I asked quietly.
“The truth is..” And she began to explain what truly happened.
From the moment the helmet man gave her pictures of herself that were cancelled in red ink to when she had those weird dreams and the last thing she saw when she slipped.
A pair of black boots.
“Are you okay?” I asked, after all her explanation.
“As long as I’m with you.”
“I’m sorry for causing all of you to worry.”
“I won’t do it ever again, I love you and I don’t want to ever lose you.” She mumbled quietly.
“There’s something I want to tell you.” I said after a short silence.
“There’s something I want to tell you too.” She said and I raised my brows.
“Really?” I mumbled and she nodded.
“Okay, let’s go at the same time.” I suggested and she smiled before nodding her head.
“Okay.” She agreed.
“One, two , go.” I said.
“You’re pregnant.”
“I’m pregnant!”
We both said it at the same time before bursting into laughter.
“You knew?” I asked.
“Yes.” She nodded.
“We’re going to be parents!” I said with a chuckle.
“I know right.” She said, staring at me.
Our faces were only inches apart and so I did what was necessary. I pulled her closer and smashed my lips on hers.
I’ve really missed this.
As we kissed, she stroked my hair with care and I loved every minute of it. We stopped to catch our breaths and look at each other.
“You look amazing.” I said quietly.
“I know.” She said with a smug smile and we both laughed.
“I love you.” I mumbled.
“I love you more.” She said,
“We’ll decide that later.” I said and she giggled.
“Let’s be good parents.” I said and she nodded.
“Have you told the others?” I asked and she shook her head in response.
“You?” She asked and I did the same.
“We’ll tell them when you get discharged.” I said and she smiled.
“I’m really happy to have you here again.” I said, pecking her cheeks.
“I’m glad to be back.” She said and we both laughed.
It was truly good to have her back. I couldn’t be any happier than this.
