Jason..
While they left to catch the said nurse, I walked to the room in anxiety.
What if I heard wrong?
What if that wasn’t Eve?
All kinds of thoughts ran through my mind but I still mustered courage to walk to the room.
The moment I opened the door and saw her looking at me with a pained expression on her face, I knew something was wrong.
“Eve?” I called out but she was already closing her eyes.
“Eve!” I yelled running to the bed and pressing the button to call the doctor.
In a few seconds, the doctor ran to the room and gave her a shot of something else which kept her stable.
“What’s going on doctor?” I asked in concern.
“She is lucky, if you had called me a little late, she might have lost the baby or even her life.” The doctor said, sighing heavily.
“So is she.. is s-she back in a coma?” I asked carefully.
“No, not at all, she’s not in a coma, she’s just unconscious due to the shot I gave her.” The doctor explained and I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I felt a tear trickle down my face and I smiled. These were tears of joy.
“We’ll have to check her to see if she’s stable and I’ll come back to check up on her.” The doctor said,
“What really happened?” I asked.
“She was given an insulin overdose, luckily, she woke up in time to stop it because she wasn’t injected much, it hadn’t even gone into her blood stream yet.”
“And that’s why I said if you had called me a minute late, we would have lost her.” The doctor said smiling and I smiled too.
“By the way, this is a miracle, from the charts, I could probably predict that your wife would wake up in a few months but waking up in under two weeks?”
“That’s just pretty impossible.” The doctor said in awe.
He walked away with the other nurses that ran here with him and I couldn’t help but smile.
I was overjoyed.
This is impossible?
Ofcourse, it is.
We make the impossible possible.
Haha!
This is all thanks to my prayers. I’m no atheist but I don’t go to church either but I prayed for once in my life that Eve should wake up and she did.
I’m just so so so happy.
I sat down on the stool and held her hands before squeezing them.
“Thankyou for coming back to me, Eve.”
“Thank you for staying strong.”
“My baby, thankyou for not dying without getting to meet your mother and I.”
“I’m so grateful.” I mumbled quietly.
I stayed like that for a while until I heard a knock on the door. I turned to face the source and there he stood panting breathlessly.
“We caught her!” Jade said, grinning from ear to ear.
I looked at Eve and looked back at jade who stood by the door.
“Max and Ethan are here to watch her, let’s go.” Jade said and I nodded before getting up from the stool but I couldn’t wipe that grin off my face.
I was too happy to do so.
Once I got out of the room and saw Max and Ethan standing there like jade said, I started laughing.
“Has he finally lost it?” Max asked but I still continued laughing.
“Eve is awake!” I said after a while and Max looked at me with wide eyes.
“Really?” He asked with his eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights.
“Yes, really.” I said walking away.
“Where are you going then?” He asked, seeing that I was walking away.
“I have unfinished business to take care of.” I said leaving the ward with jade who was walking in front of me.
We got into the car and Jade drove straight to the police station where she was taken to.
“How did you catch her?” I asked as Jade drove to the police station.
“Well, I was stunned to see those two bodyguards running after a nurse and since you yelled that I should run after her, I did too.”
“But she already took the elevator so it was kinda hard, while the bodyguards waited for the next elevator to come, I took the stairs and met her as she was about to run away.” Jade explained and I chuckled.
“Those bodyguards are just plain dumb, how could they wait for the elevator?” I scoffed.
“Beats me.” Jade shrugged.
“So how did you manage to tackle her?” I asked.
“I did jiu jitsu on her, it’s been a while since I flexed my muscles.” He joked.
“You’re overdoing it.” I said laughing.
“But thankyou for catching her.” I said quietly.
“It’s my job and besides, Eve is my friend too, she’s the reason I’m still working here after all.” Jade said and I shrugged.
“You’re working here due to your own skills, not because of anybody.” I said and he smiled.
We arrived at the police station and quickly dashed inside.
“Hey!, Long time no see Mr Coleman.” Dave said and I smiled.
“Nice to meet you again, Dave.” I said extending my hands for a handshake which she shook.
“Dave?” Jade mumbled confused.
“Yup.” I nodded in response.
“Isn’t that a guy’s name?” Dave spoke for herself and I laughed.
It reminded me of the first time I met her, the exact same thing she’s saying now was the exact same thing she said to me.
“Let’s just go and meet the suspect.” I said shutting jade up.
How is he that he doesn’t remember her anyways? I thought he came here with me the last time I was here.
Well, he was too happy that he got called to escort me to even remember anything from that day.
After all, he did say that it was his first time going to Florida that day too.
“She’s in there.” Dave said, showing up to the same dark room where I met Clinton the other time.
Don’t they have better questioning rooms?
We pay taxes and they still can’t upgrade rooms like this in the police station.
Dave opened the door so jade and i could enter inside.
And there she sat under the dim light in the dark room. Her hands were cuffed to the table and she had an unreadable expression on her face.
I couldn’t help but wonder if this was truly the face of someone I had come to know in a short while or this was a facade.
“Someone wants to meet you, look up.” Dave said with a stern voice and that’s when she looked up to meet my gaze. She smirked the moment she saw me but I wasn’t even moved, I kept my stoic expression and sat down opposite her.
“Sophie.” I said quietly that it almost came out as a whisper.
“Jason.” She said, still smirking.
“Now that I no longer work for you, I suppose I don’t have to keep using honorifics.” She said with a smug smile on her face and I scoffed.
Is this what deja Vu feels like or is this just what criminals like to say?
