Jason.
It’s been two weeks since Eve fell into a coma and it’s been a few days since I got two bodyguards to guard Eve’s ward.
I don’t want any weird thing to happen so I’m being cautious. The only people who are allowed to go into the ward besides family would be the doctors or nurses.
Mom asked why I put bodyguards but I didn’t have any reason I could give her so I said we can’t all be here all the time and what if someone needs to get something outside or so. In short, I made up something believable.
“Are you ready to leave?” Jade asked once he came into my office.
I was currently at work preparing to leave for a meeting before I could go to the hospital to see Eve.
“It’s the last meeting for the day right?” I asked and he nodded in response.
“Okay, let’s go then.” I said getting up from my swivel chair and following jade out.
We got into the elevator and pressed the button to the underground parking lot.
“You didn’t get to tell me everything that day.” Jade said since we were alone.
“I..” I paused, unsure of how to continue.
Truly, I was unable to tell him everything that’s going on. Because Max came out and asked us to tell him about the juicy gist we were talking about but I didn’t want to drag Max into this.
After witnessing what he said to Eve’s own parents, if he thinks that Alice is involved in this, he might explode.
So I changed what I had to say into something about work.
“You said Eve was in danger.” Jade said, repeating what I had said that day.
“Not was.” I mumbled quietly.
“So you’re saying she’s still in danger?, Is that why you got the bodyguards?” Jade asked all at once.
“I wouldn’t say she’s still in danger but I’m scared. I can’t help but feel as if something bad is going to happen.” I said quietly.
“Oh please, don’t jinx it.” Jade said, frowning.
“Jinx it?” I said, confused.
“Yeah, don’t you know?” He asked with a raised brow.
“Know what?” I asked, still confused.
“When you say something bad is going to happen, it always does so you’ll have to spit out so it doesn’t get jinxed.” Jade explained and I scoffed.
“I never knew you were so superstitious.” I said smiling.
“It’s not superstition, it’s real.” He argued and I shrugged in response.
“Yeah yeah.” I said with a shrug.
We arrived at the parking lot and got out of the elevator.
We walked straight to the car still arguing about what’s superstitious and what’s not.
Then we got into the car and Jade drove to where the last meeting would be taking place.
The last meeting I am having is with a subsidiary in my company and although I don’t necessarily have to attend, I still feel the need to go so they’ll know that I’m not just slacking.
Because apparently, that’s the rumour that has been going around the company in the past three days as told by Patricia.
I’m not even curious about the source because I’m sure it’s one of those old geezers in the board of directors and they are simply jealous of what I’ve managed to achieve despite the setbacks I’ve faced in the past few months.
We entered the building and took the elevator straight to the floor of the conference room where the meeting would be taking place.
I entered the conference room and they all got up to greet me including the old geezers on the board. Just what are they doing here anyways?
“Good evening, shall we begin?” I asked rhetorically. We all sat down and the team in charge began their presentation.
Overall, everything was good and the graph presented was at the right amount until one of those old geezers that’s not supposed to be here spoke up.
“Jason, I heard your wife is in the hospital. Is that why you’ve been busy?” One of the old geezers asked.
“It’s Mr Coleman. And let’s refrain from talking about our private lives when it’s time to work.” I said in response with a smug smile on my face. He scoffed and kept quiet.
And the rest of the meeting went very well.
Once we were done, I got up to leave so I could go to the hospital.
“Leaving already?”
“I never took Jason as a family man.” Those two old men said laughing.
I really didn’t want to answer them. I really wanted to ignore them but I just couldn’t.
“I heard his wife is in coma, it must be hard for him, I mean what if she dies, they don’t even have a kid together yet.”
“That’s why I told him to marry my daughter, I’m sure my lovely daughter would have given him a son by now.”
The problem is, sometimes you can’t just ignore bullshit.
“I’d appreciate it if you stopped gossiping about my life, I’m pretty sure you have better things to do.”
“If you’re jobless, maybe you could dedicate your time to watching a soap opera.” I snapped at them.
“Are you talking to us?” They asked at the same time and I scoffed.
“Who else would I be talking to?” I asked with a slightly raised voice drawing a little bit of attention to us.
“You can’t talk to us like that, we are the pillar of this company.” One of them said,
“You’re so dense, light bends around you.” I said pointing at him.
“And you, your agility is comparable to a turtle on a trampoline.” I said pointing at the other one.
“By now, you both should be in a nursing home or home for elderly people, why do you keep causing a nuisance at a working place for high ranked people.” I snapped and they both looked embarrassed.
I knew they had no come back and they were speechless so I walked away before they could even form words.
“Staying with Max has taught you how to be savage.” Jade teased once we were on our way to the hospital.
“I was always savage.” I laughed.
We arrived at the hospital and went straight to Eve’s ward just in time to meet a nurse running away from Eve’s ward.
Wait..
Running away?
And why does that nurse look like….
“Catch that nurse!” I heard someone scream from the ward.
Did I just hear Eve’s voice?
“Why are you standing there?, Catch her!” I yelled at the bodyguards who simply stood there like stagnant trees.
They quickly took to their heels and ran after the said nurse along with Jade.
