Eve..
It was quite late when I woke up from my sleep. I thought I would just take a nap but when I checked the time, a few hours had passed.
“What a day!” I thought as I got out of bed and walked to the dressing table where I kept my phone earlier.
I checked my phone and I realised I had over seven missed calls. Two from Ethan, three from Max and another two from Jason. I bet they’re worried sick.
There was a piece of paper next to my phone that wasn’t there before. I dropped the phone back on the dressing table and picked up the piece of paper.
“Why didn’t you go to the store today?, We could have had some fun together.”
“Are you wondering how I have access to your house?, Well don’t be. I’m watching your every move. PS – the man in black.”
I read what was written on the piece of paper.
It was like the air in the room felt more tense. I felt a lump in my throat and I tried to hide my fears.
“The man in black?” I muttered quietly.
I crumpled the paper and grabbed my phone to leave the house. This nonsense has to stop.
I went downstairs and looked around but I couldn’t find a single soul in the house. It was like they all disappeared.
“Mom?” I called out but nobody answered.
“Jason?” I called again but still the same.
“Grandma Nini.”
“Sophie..”
“Jade!”
I was getting scared now.
Everything was unusual and odd.
How did the helmet man get inside the house and place a letter on my dressing table?
Why did they all call me and not bother to check up on me?
And why am I home alone?
Everything was simply strange and hard to understand.
I ran to the garden, the gym, the pool, the parking lot but there was not a single soul in the house.
Not even the security men.
“God!” I mumbled quietly as I squatted in the living room.
“Are you scared?” I heard a voice say but I couldn’t trace it.
“Eve..”
“You’re all alone.”
“They’ve all left you.”
“They don’t care about you.”
“You disgust them.”
The voices were in my head saying all sorts of rubbish.
I felt suffocated, like I couldn’t breathe.
No..
I-i can’t take this.
Ahhhhhhhhh
I screamed loudly and opened my eyes.
It was just a dream.
I sat up on the bed and removed the duvet from my body. I was sweating profusely and I was confused.
It was just a dream and yet it felt so real. A silly dream, that’s what it was.
I looked to my side and my phone was there, I picked it up and checked for the time but it hasn’t even been up to an hour since I slept and there was no missed call.
I sighed in relief. Atleast, this is real.
I got up from the bed and went towards the door. I couldn’t help but glance at the dressing table but luckily no sheet of paper was there. I pinched myself to be sure that I was awake and not in another trance or some stupid dream again and it hurt which meant that I’m wide awake now.
I walked out of the room and went downstairs. I checked the kitchen and found Mom there.
“Mom.” I mumbled quietly.
“Oh, you’re awake?” She said smiling.
“Yes.” I muttered and walked towards her.
“Are you alright? Jade said you looked really pale, are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?” She asked and I shook my head in response.
“Not at all, I’m alright.” I assured her.
“Okay, I’m making porridge for you, you should eat something, you’ve not had breakfast yet.” She said and I nodded.
“What about Sophie, is she back?” I asked and she nodded.
“I think she’s helping out Grandma Nini in the garden.” She said and I nodded.
“Just sit down and wait, it will soon be ready.”
“I already asked Jade to inform Ethan that you won’t be coming to work today.” She said and I nodded.
The porridge was ready and she served it.
“Make sure you eat everything.” She said and walked away.
The porridge was warm and yummy and I ate to my fill but I still didn’t feel better. Maybe I’ll have to go to the hospital after all.
I got up from the chair where I sat and a wave of dizziness hit me again.
Ugh! This really has to stop.
Ring ring ring..
“Hello.” I said as I picked up my ringing phone from the dinning table where I kept it.
“Eve, are you alright?”
“Ethan said you called in sick.” Max said in concern.
“I’m fine, I just feel a bit faint.” I said quietly as I took the dishes to the kitchen.
“Are you sure you don’t have to go to the hospital?, If you don’t feel good, you should go to the hospital and stop being stingy to yourself.” Max snapped.
“What do you mean stingy to myself?” I laughed as I did the dishes.
“Isn’t that why you don’t want to go to the hospital?” Max said, making me laugh even more.
“I don’t want to go only for the doctor to say I’m stressed or something.” I said and I heard Max hiss.
“Whatever, I’m coming to see you this instant.” Max declared and I chuckled.
“You don’t have to, I’m not dying.” I said quietly.
“We’ll see about that.” He said and hung up before I could stop him from coming.
Such a stubborn young man.
I dried my hands and picked my phone to go back to the room since I was still feeling a bit tired.
I was on the stairs when I heard a giggle behind me.
I turned back to face whoever was there but I didn’t see anyone.
I feel sick and now I’m hallucinating too?
I hissed loudly and continued to go up the stairs until I heard the giggling once more.
“I’m watching your every move.” A voice whispered quietly and I turned to face it once again but no one was there.
I must be really sick. This time, I swore to ignore it and was about to take another step up but a wave of dizziness hit me again and this time even harder. I missed the step, slipped and rolled down the stairs.
The last thing I remember was seeing a pair of black boots before I blacked out.
