Jason..
We were currently on our way to get food from a fast food restaurant that was close by.
“What did you guys do to Eve?” I asked jade and Patricia who were walking beside me.
“We simply pulled a prank.” Jade said again and I nodded.
“I believe you.” I said truthfully.
But I couldn’t wrap my head around it.
Are people truly affected by scare pranks so much that they cry and shiver like one who’s seen a ghost?
Is that even possible?
That a prank can scare someone shitless?
“What should we get?” I asked, changing the topic so they can feel relaxed. But I wasn’t relaxed at all.
I was very worried. I’m worried that there’s something I don’t know.
Because there’s something I didn’t tell Eve.
I didn’t tell her what truly happened the day Alice came to my office.
Because as at then, I simply took it as a groundless threat.
Flash-back.
I heard a knock on my door and without waiting for me to give permission, the door opened.
“Eve, did you forget something?” I asked, raising up my head from the paper I was working on but the person in front of me wasn’t Eve.
It was Alice.
“Alice..” I said quietly.
“What brings you here?” I asked and she scoffed as she walked over to the couch and sat down putting her legs on the table and crossing them.
“You never ask me what brings me to your office before you know.” She said and hissed.
“Well, that time was different.” I said unsure of how to place my words.
“Different?” She scoffed.
“Different how?” She asked with a slightly raised voice.
“You know how Alice, I wasn’t married then.” I said even though that wasn’t true.
“Jason, are you really going to let go of what we had for a girl like Eve?” She asked as she put her legs down from the table and got up.
“What do you mean a girl like Eve?” I asked, getting upset.
“You know what I mean!”
“She’s not worth your love.”
“I fought so hard to get here.” She said dejectedly as she walked towards my table.
“I didn’t even mind the fact that we would just be having sex and I let you use me.” She said accusingly which made me scoff.
“Used you?” I hissed.
“We used each other Alice, we both had sex!”
“We both enjoyed it.”
” I told you it was just going to be sex but you went ahead and caught feelings!” I yelled in frustration.
“Oh so you’re saying you knew I loved you and you still choose Eve over me?” She asked quietly.
“Alice, you’re a good friend but you should know when to draw the lines.” I said.
“Lines?” She laughed like a maniac.
“When you fucked me senseless, you didn’t know there was a line then but now that you have someone, there’s a line?” She continued laughing.
“Alice, you know what I’m talking about, I’m sure when you find the right person, you’ll probably feel the same way I feel.” I said quietly and she sighed.
“You’re right, ” she said after a few minutes of silence.
“But can we still be friends?” She asked and I shook my head.
“That wouldn’t be right.” I mumbled quietly.
“We can talk sometimes.” I said but not loud enough for her to hear it anyways. I know I said some harsh words but they were needed. I needed to tell them if I wanted to have a relationship with Eve.
“Just know you’ll regret your decision.” Her voice suddenly went down an octave and the room felt colder than it was before.
“You’ll regret this decision and that day I’ll be there.” She said and walked towards the door.
“I bet Eve didn’t tell you anything, did she?” She sneered like she knew something important.
“There’s something you should know but I won’t tell you.” She said and chuckled darkly.
“I won’t let you rest.”
“If I can’t have you, no one else can.”
“And I’ll make sure of that.” She said before walking out of my office and slamming the door behind her.
Bang!
Flashback ends.
Back then, I didn’t understand what she meant.
I didn’t think Alice could actually do anything to Eve or to me. But now, I’m starting to think otherwise.
Or maybe I’m just overreacting.
But she did say that we wouldn’t rest and she’ll make sure of it.
“Are you alright?’ jade asked, jolting me out of my reverie.
“Yeah.” I lied.
“Don’t worry, Eve will be alright.” Jade said assuringly.
“Yeah, I think Eve was just overwhelmed, I would be scared too if two people snuck up on me like that.” Patricia said, noticing the look on my face.
“I mean we didn’t know she was scared and we even ran after her, that must have been soon scary.” She continued, trying to back up her suggestion with a fact.
“Yeah.” I said but I didn’t agree with her. Not when I remembered the look on Eve’s face.
She looked so terrified and she even cried. I don’t want to ever see her that way.
She looked like she was scared shitless, like she was helpless which means there’s more than meets the eyes to what’s going on.
There’s something I don’t know about and I need to get to the bottom of it.
“Should we get sandwiches?” Jade asked, interrupting my thoughts and that’s when I noticed that we’ve gotten to the fast food restaurant.
“Or burritos?” Jade asked.
“I think pizza would be better.” Patricia suggested.
“Okay, pizza then.” Jade agreed immediately, not wanting to argue with her.
“Half and half?” Patricia asked and I shook my head.
“Let’s get different kinds.” I said smiling but the smile didn’t reach my eyes.
There was this feeling in my mind that I couldn’t put my hands on.
A feeling that something was going to happen. But what?
