Chapter 71

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Eve.
I closed my eyes as I screamed loudly in fear.
“Eve!” I heard the voice again but it was familiar.
It wasn’t the helmet man and his sidekick. It was Jade and Patricia.
Ugh!
“You scared me!” I yelled in a broken voice.
“We didn’t mean to.” Jade said apologetically.
“I…”
“I..”
I stuttered as I was unable to form words. I felt a lump in my throat and my hands were still shaking in fear.
“Eve..” Patricia called softly and that was when I broke into sobs.
“We’re so sorry.” She said apologetically but I sobbed even more.
“I was so scared, I thought I was going to die!” I said loudly as I sobbed harder.
“We’re so sorry, we’ll never try to scare you again.” Jade said quietly.
They both tried to help me stand but my legs were weak and wobbly.
“Can you walk?” Jade asked and I shook my head.
“Okay, we’ll help you.” He said and put his arms around my shoulders.
Patricia did the same.
I was in the middle with my arms around their shoulders and one of theirs around mine too
I looked around the place as we walked back to where Jason, Ethan and Max are supposed to be and that was when I noticed the sign board that I didn’t see before.
It said – This side of the park is currently closed down till further notice.
No wonder it seemed spooky. I guess that’s what you get for wandering around alone.
“How did you guys find me?” I managed to ask as we walked back.
“Oh, Ethan texted to tell me that you guys were here at the park but we were already here, we wanted some privacy and that’s how we stumbled upon that place, you were walking around in anger without looking and I suggested that we scare you.” Jade explained.
“But you started running so Jade and I thought you already caught on, we didn’t think you’ll actually be scared.” Patricia said in a small voice.
“I’m sorry for being such a killjoy.” I mumbled quietly.
“No, it’s not like that.” Patricia said immediately.
“I know that’s not what you meant, I’m just saying.” I said, smiling a little.
Judging from where we are now, I would say we’re currently at the part of the park that was still in use. We saw Ethan sitting down on one of the benches around and I was sure we were there.
Patricia and Jade helped me sit on one of the benches around and I sighed heavily.
“Did something happen?” Ethan asked, noticing the look on their faces and mine which was pale in comparison to theirs.
“We..” Jade was about to answer but was interrupted by Jason’s shout of victory.
“Woo!!!!” Jason screamed in triumph.
“I won again!” He yelled happily.
“Max, you’re so buying those tickets.” Jason laughed at Max who looked like he was punched in the stomach.
They both noticed the awkward silence and that was when Jason noticed me.
“Eve, are you alright?” His voice showed concern.
“I’m fine.” I tried to say but my voice failed me.
I felt like I was going to cry.
I nodded and looked away hoping that the tears that filled my eyes would not fall down.
“What’s going on?” Jason turned to Ethan who was sitting down looking just as confused as he was.
“I have no idea, they just got here and they were helping her to walk.” Ethan explained.
“Eve, is anything the matter?” It was Max’s turn to ask.
He moved closer to me and squatted right in front of me. He took my hands in his and squeezed it making me look at him with teary eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Max asked and I knew I couldn’t hold it any longer.
“I was so scared.” I said as I broke into a sob once again.
“I thought I was… I don’t know what happened, I was so scared. I thought he would kill me.” I said and whispered the last part of it so they wouldn’t hear me. I couldn’t tell them what happened before.
At least not now.
Not now that everything is going smoothly.
Even Alice is out of our lives now.
Whether she’s waiting for when to strike or she has actually given up on Jason. I have no idea but for now, I would like to keep the mood this way. Happy and fun.
“What’s going on?” Jason asked loudly.
“We didn’t mean to.” Jade noticed that things weren’t looking too good.
“What did you do?” Jason asked sternly.
I knew this look. I had seen it countless times myself. Countless times before Jason and I fell in love. When I had just met him and our relationship was simply based on a piece of paper and lies.
This look was completely terrifying and scary. That look has made me cry countless times and given me sleepless nights.
That was the look Jason showed when he was furious about something.
“We pulled a prank on her.” Jade muttered quietly.
“And I sprained my ankle.” I spoke up immediately lying through my teeth.
“You sprained your ankle?” Jason’s voice came down a notch.
“Yeah.” I nodded with tears still dripping down my face.
“You’re such a cry baby.” Jason said, walking towards me. Max got up from where he was squatting in front of me and walked to the bench where Ethan was sitting down. Jason sat down beside me and frowned.
“Were you really scared?” He teased and I managed to laugh.
“Yeah.” I said quietly before looking at jade and Patricia who looked at me gratefully.
“I was already nervous about being lost and then they pranked me so I sprained my ankle.” I continued to lie so it would seem believable to Jason who nodded in understanding.
He shot jade and Patricia a look before turning to face me and pulling me into his embrace.
“Should we go to the hospital?” He asked the moment we disengaged from the hug.
“I’m fine, it was just a small sprain.” I lied and he nodded before pecking my cheeks.
Then he got up from the chair and walked towards jade and Patricia who were still standing close to the bench.
“Let’s go get lunch, shall we?” Jason said with a wide smile which I could tell was fake.
Jade and Patricia nodded and followed Jason like obedient puppies.
“You didn’t sprain your ankle, did you?” Max asked the moment Jason was gone and I looked away.
“Eve, you didn’t even get scared when a frog jumped at you at the zoo, why would you get scared over a prank?” Max said but I simply ignored him.
There was nothing I could say. If I tell Max, he’ll tell Jason and all my efforts will be ruined.
