Chapter 56

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Eve..
For the past four days, I spent my free time waiting for Jason but he never came.
Today makes it two weeks since I left Jason’s mansion and I was starting to believe what Max said before.
Maybe he just wants to play me and see if he still has power over me.
Maybe he was just trying to test me and see if I would still fall for him.
I was still lost in thought when I heard people screaming outside.
Oh my goodness, is the zombie apocalypse already happening?
Is the world coming to an end?
I couldn’t help but wonder as I walked towards the door and opened it to go outside but what I saw was no zombie apocalypse.
In fact, people weren’t screaming in fear but in awe.
There were balloons everywhere and it looked like someone was going to do some kind of grand proposal. There was even a big speaker there too.
But on the street?
This person is surely an attention seeker.
I turned to leave but the moment I heard my name through the microphone, I stopped in my tracks.
I turned back to face the source of the voice and boy was it the person I’ve been dying to see all day long.
“Jason?” I mumbled in confusion.
“Yes, it’s me.” He said through the microphone and walked towards me with the crowd paving way for him until he stood right in front of me.
He dropped the microphone and spoke directly to me but I’m sure the crowd could still hear it especially since they were all silent and expectant.
“I’m sorry I took so long. I was preoccupied with work but I swear you were on my mind and I couldn’t stop thinking about you.” He began and I felt heat rush to my face, making me blush.
“Eve, I know I said this before but I’m really really sorry.” He said and I nodded.
“I understand and i forgive you.” I said, smiling sheepishly, making the crowd go awwwnnn.
“No no, I still have a lot to say to you.” He said and nodded waiting for him to continue.
“I’ve wronged you and I’m sorry.”
“I treated you wrong and I regret it but what I regret most of all is not telling you this.” He said and pulled me closer before taking my hands in his and giving it a little squeeze.
“I regret not telling you how much I love you.” He said and I felt tears dripping from my ears.
“I love you so much it’s killing me.”
“I’ve always loved you and that’s why I chose you to marry me and I am sorry I didn’t say it that way when you wanted me to say it back.” He said and I shook my head while still crying.
I know I was ugly crying and people were videoing me but I couldn’t care less.
I was right.
He loves me.
Not Alice.
Not anyone else..
It’s me that he loves.
“I didn’t want to make this grand confession but with Jade?, I have to go all out sometimes.” He said and I laughed.
“You see Eve, there’s always some madness in love.” He began and I raised my brows.
“It means that you liking someone can be that you’re misunderstanding someone in your own way.” He said and I laughed.
Is this some kind of speech?
“Misunderstanding?” I managed to say amidst my laughter.
“What I mean is that you could be Fermina Daza to someone and it won’t be a misunderstanding.” He said and I smiled.
“Fermina Daza?” I asked.
“She’s a heroine from an old book.” He said,
“To him, she seemed so beautiful, so seductive, so different from ordinary people that he could not understand why no one was as disturbed as he..
By the clicking of her heels on the paving stones, why no one else’s heart was wild with the breeze stirred by the signs of her veils..
Why did everyone not go mad with the movements of her braid, the flight of her hands, the gold of her laughter..
He could not understand why anyone wouldn’t fall in love with her.”
By the time he finished his grand speech, I was already a sobbing mess. I’m sure I looked much worse than earlier when I was crying in fact.
“You’re my Fermina Daza, Eve.” He said.
“You’re the ying to my yang.”
“You are the reason I’m breathing.”
“I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“I want to love and cherish you like I should have always done.” He said,
“I love you too, Jason..” I said, still sobbing.
“I’ve always loved you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you too.” I said.
“So will you go home with me today?” He asked and I nodded immediately.
“Yes, I w…” I felt a wave of dizziness hit me just like a few days earlier but this time, it is stronger. Much stronger.
So strong that I felt my hands leave Jason’s and I landed on the floor.
“Eve!!!” I heard Jason scream.
“Eve.. stay with me.” He screamed.
“Stay with me, you promised to go home with me today.” I heard his voice break.
“Eve, I love you, don’t die on me.” He said scared for my life.
“Die?” I thought. Was I dying?
Is this what death feels like?
Maybe if I do die, I would be dying a peaceful death because I heard him say it. I heard him say that he loved me.
But I wanted to speak before I died in case this was indeed my last chance.
To say something at least, to assure him that I would be fine wherever I was going to but I was too weak.
I felt everything around me go faint and all I could hear was muffled yelling and everything was faintly bright and I could hear a beeping sound.
But I knew I was falling unconscious.
It felt like I was falling into a dark hole.
A void of nothingness.
And then I blacked out completely.
Unaware of where I was or what I was doing.
