Jason..
The sun was shining brightly in the sky and I felt warm not only because of the weather but even at heart. I smiled as I thought about today. I have it all planned out, I’ll confess this growing feeling for Eve but after I end things with Alice.
It was still quite early so I’ve decided to go around and check for some few things in the area. Maybe I would even find a souvenir to bring home for my family.
Family? I like the sound of that.
I switched on my phone and the moment it finished booting, mom’s call came in and I picked up immediately.
“Jason!!” She yelled through the phone so loud that I had to move the phone from my ears to hear properly.
“Why are you screaming so early in the morning?” I groaned in annoyance.
“Why am I screaming?”
“Are you supposed to be asking me that question after what you did!!” She snapped, making me confused.
“What did I do?” I asked.
“What did I do?” I was confused. What is she trying to imply?
“Are you seriously asking me such stupid question?” She hissed.
What could possibly be going on?
Did Eve tell her that I’ve been avoiding her since we had sex?
“I really don’t know what you’re talking about mom, you have to specify what you’re talking about.” I told her.
“Your divorce agreement!” She yelled and my heart sunk.
“My divorce a-agreement?” I muttered.
“Yes! How could you divorce her?” She yelled.
“That young girl brought so much joy to this family, she was like the light after your father died but you just had to send her away with your rude and bad attitude towards her.” She kept yelling without giving me space to talk.
“Mom” I called but she ignored me and continued to rant.
“Do you think I didn’t know that you’re sleeping with that Alice girl?” She screamed on top of her lungs.
“If you think you’ll bring her home to replace Eve, that would be over my dead body.” She kept rambling and rambling.
“Mom!!” I had to scream loudly and I was so sure that anyone in the hallway outside my room would have been startled.
And I’m guessing she was also startled since she paused to give me space to talk.
“I didn’t divorce Eve.” I said finally.
“You didn’t do what?” She snapped.
“Are you kidding me?, I saw the divorce papers, she showed them to me. Do you think I’m a fool?” She asked not believing me.
“I swear I didn’t, my signature isn’t on it, it was done by Clinton but he was arrested. There was no way I could find the courier who would deliver the file so I had to wait until it was delivered to the house, I even kept calling Grandma Nini to tell her to keep whatever document she gets and makes sure Eve doesn’t see it, he confessed to everything, I swear, I didn’t do it.” I had to rush my words before she cut me off again.
“Is he telling the truth?” She asked someone who I’m guessing is Grandma Nini.
“Yes.” I heard Grandma Nini’s faint voice.
“Why do you have a divorce agreement in the first place?” My mother dropped the bomb.
“All these could have been avoided if there was no contract in the first place.” She said sadly now.
“I know, and I regret it. I’m so angry at myself that it took me this long to realise what a gem Eve is.” I said brokenly.
“Well then come home to correct your mistakes.” She said,
“You forgive me?” I asked.
“No.” She answered immediately.
“I’ll forgive you when Eve comes home.” She says and hangs up on me.
The moment she hung up. All my hope came crashing down.
This was going to be harder than convincing Eve that I now have feelings for her.
And most of all, I can’t imagine how broken she must feel right now and it’s all because of me.
I quickly packed my bags and left the hotel room. I knocked on Jade’s door which was right beside mine.
“Yes?” He said as soon as he opened the door.
“Pack up, we’re going home.” I said immediately.
“I thought we were going to tour around and eat some delicious food along the way.” Jade seemed disappointed.
“Next time jade, right now, my marriage is falling apart.” I said and he nodded understanding me immediately.
I like him, he’s outspoken and understanding.
I waited outside the door with my small bag and after a few minutes, he came out too.
We took the elevator downstairs and met our guide from earlier who I can’t remember his name at the moment because of the dilemma I’m in.
He drove us to the airport so we could catch the earlier flight back to New York city.
Throughout the flight, I was restless. Jade kept assuring me that everything would work out but I couldn’t believe that. Not until I get home at least.
After three long hours, we arrived at the airport and jade drove me home.
The moment I got home, I ran out of my car straight into the mansion. I couldn’t even bear to feel jetlagged.
“Mother, Grandma Nini.” I called the moment I saw them both looking dejected in the living room.
“Where’s Eve?” I asked as I couldn’t find her.
“She left.” Mom managed to say.
“She left?” I mumbled.
“What do you mean she left?” I said with a slightly raised voice but none of them gave me a response.
I ran up the stairs and straight to Eve’s room. I opened the door and expected her to be there sitting on her bed as she giggled to Home-Alone or any other comedy but all I met was an empty bed with a few clothes lying around.
She wasn’t there.
She’s gone!
“No.. No.. N-no..” I felt tears pool in my eyes.
“No!!!” I screamed.
She did not leave me!
No!, I didn’t just lose her!
No!, This is not happening to me!
I slumped on the floor as I cried my eyes out.
I just lost Eve.
The saying – you don’t know what you have until you lose it is true.
Now that she’s not in this room, now that she’s not by my side…
I know how much she means to me.
How much I love her..
