Chapter 46

Book:The Virgin Wife Published:2025-3-31

Eve..
“I’m leaving.” I said, making them look at me with wide eyes.
“Leaving?” Mia asked, confused.
“Yes, I’m leaving.” I repeated.
“Why?” Mia asked.
“To where?” Grandma Nini asked.
They both seemed startled and confused.
“Why are you leaving?” Mia asked.
“Did Jason ask you to leave?” Grandma Nini asked.
“No.” I shook my head as I brought out the divorce agreement from the file in my bag.
“We’re no longer married.” I said.
“What does that mean?” Mia asked, confused.
“Jason divorced me which means I have no right to stay here anymore.” I said quietly as I felt a lump in my throat and my eyes swollen with tears but I fought it.
“J-jason divorced you?” Mia said, surprised.
“Yes.” I said in a monotone.
“That’s impossible.” Grandma Nini said.
“It’s not.” Max said, taking the paper from my hands and putting it on the table for them to see.
“That’s his official stamp.” Max said, pointing at the place where Jason’s stamp was.
“That’s impossible.” Mia said like she wasn’t seeing the stamp on it, almost making me scoff.
Are they kidding me now?
“He can’t do that.” Mia said, still baffled by what’s going on.
“He already did.” Max said getting angry already but I shot him a look that said calm down.
“There’s nothing I can do if Jason wants a divorce, after all he’s the reason we’re married in the first place.” I said, mumbling the last few words.
“I’m going to pack my things now.” I said getting up.
“Why don’t you wait for him to get back tomorrow and then you’ll decide?” Grandma Nini said, trying to stop me.
“Will it change his mind?” I thought for a second.
“Waiting won’t change a thing.” Max answered for me.
“Eve.” Mia looked at me instead hoping for me to say something at least but I couldn’t form the words.
“Your son has always treated her badly, you’ve always seen it but you did nothing about it, are you trying to break her?” Max snapped and I squeezed his hands to tell him to stop.
“He didn’t sign it.” Grandma Nini said.
“He didn’t sign it?” Max seemed bewildered by their tactics to convince me to stay.
“His official stamp is there and you say he didn’t sign it.” Max snapped and I squeezed his hands tighter.
“It doesn’t change a thing, waiting for him or not, It won’t change anything. I’ll always be on the losing end.” I said quietly as I dragged Max upstairs with me before he says anything rude to either of them.
“The one who loves the most is always on the losing end after all.” I thought as I went to my room with Max so they could have some time to think.
I want to give them time to process this.
I got into my room and pulled out my box from my wardrobe and opened it down on my bed.
I sat down on the bed and looked around.
So this room wouldn’t be mine anymore?
Did the time we spent together not mean anything to him at all?
“Eve, let’s go.” Max said and I looked at him. He had packed up my things already and was waiting for me to get up.
I got up and looked at the dressing table. There, the bracelet he gave me the first time was on it. That was his first gift to me. I couldn’t just leave it here.
I took it and wore it on my hands.
“Eve, are you really taking that?” Max asked but I ignored him and left the room with him trailing behind me with my travelling box.
We got downstairs and met grandma Nini and Mia waiting for us. They both looked at me apologetically as if begging me not to go but they knew they couldn’t convince me to stay.
No, I wouldn’t be convinced.
We both left the mansion and went outside to Ethan who was waiting in the car.
Max put the box in the trunk while I got into the back seat.
He got into the car and Ethan drove off to his apartment.
We got to his apartment and Ethan carried my box to his apartment while Max and I followed behind him.
We got to the apartment, he input his door code and we got in.
The apartment was one cosy one. It was luxurious but homey. I liked it.
I smiled as I felt better once we were inside.
“Go and take a bath, the food will be ready in a few minutes.” Ethan said to me.
“He makes mein noodles.” Max whispered, making me laugh.
“The guest room is that way.” Ethan pointed at the door for me and I nodded.
I dragged my box to the room and opened the door.
I entered inside and I closed it. I sighed heavily as I thought about my day.
This has got to be the worst day in history for me.
The first guy I give my all to breaks my heart and shatters it to pieces.
This could make the headlines. I giggled at my thought.
I undressed and went to take a cold bath. I needed it for a wake up call.
I needed to be strong in times like this. Not letting this weigh me down was my goal.
What did I expect?
That Jason would someday come to love me?
Impossible!
That wouldn’t happen in a lifetime. I was just being delusional.
Hope can sometimes be a cruel beast. I finished taking a shower and changed into comfortable pyjamas.
I left the room and tried to locate the dining room.
Apparently, the house was pretty big.
“Do you think Eve will be fine?” Max asked Ethan.
“She’ll be fine, you said she’s strong.” Ethan said.
“This is not something to be too strong about.” Max snapped.
“I wish I could just barge into his office and beat him to a pulp.” Max said angrily.
“Babe, calm down.” Ethan said, pulling him to a hug.
“But there’s nothing I can do for her, she helped when I had problems with you but I can’t even help her now.” Max said in a broken voice.
“The best thing you can do for her is to be strong.” Ethan said soothingly.
“Wow, your house is amazing.” I said, making them disengage from the hug and look at me.
They both looked at me with pity.
“Guys, I’m fine.” I said, trying to sound convincing.
“Are you sure?” Max asked.
“Yes.” I lied.
I’m not fine but I’ll be fine.
Maybe not today.
