Rex’s POV.
“Do we really have to argue about this, Elena?” I shrugged as I looked at her. “How long were you planning on keeping this away from me?” I questioned as I looked at her.
“Why do you care? And what do you think this would do? Change anything?” She fired back at me as she rolled her eyes.
“I can take care of them!!” She said in defense as she looked at me.
“Take care of them? Do you even know what exactly is going on here? How could they possibly turn to their wolf at such a tender age?” I snapped as I paced about.
Marie stood at the mini dining table as Kanu and Kiana sat down on the dining chair.
“At least, can you two not do this here?” Marie snapped as she looked at the both of us.
Without saying a single word, she carried them inside, leaving just me and Elena alone.
“And how do you intend on taking care of them?” I broke the few minutes of silence after Marie had taken Kanu and Kiana back to their room.
“For five years, five good years, Rex, I have taken care of them without you or anyone. So why do you think that I can’t take care of them now?” She cursed angrily as she looked at me.
“And…”
“They have me to take care of them, okay? Why do you think you are even needed here? You know what? You think you can just come back into our lives like nothing happened?” She scowled.
“I knew it all along. I knew the only reason you came here to New Kingston was because of your selfish reasons, Rex. Gawd!! I hate you!!” She cursed as she looked away.
“You know they need the pack right now. We don’t even know if this is normal, Elena. At least, for their sake, bring them back to the pack.” I said in a calm voice.
One thing I could never let happen was seeing them in any harm.
“When I came to New Kingston, I came hoping I could reunite with you, Elena. For five years, I searched for you, I searched everywhere for you, Elena and I couldn’t find you.” I said in defense as I looked at her.
“Mother never stopped thinking of you.” I muttered as I walked up to her.
“It changes nothing!! You think mentioning her name would make me forgive you for everything you did to me?” She turned around as he looked right into my eyes and I could tell that she was still angry with me.
I tilted my lips as I looked away. “You know, why don’t we set our differences aside for the sake of our children’s wellbeing?” I said calmly, hoping to change her mind but then, I still felt hopeless, completely hopeless.
“Five years we have lived here and you know what? We have had the most peaceful years of our life. And I wouldn’t let my kids grow up in your world. Why can’t you see it? You are only a threat to them, Rex. Accept it!!” She cursed angrily as she used her right hand to rub her forehead in frustration as she looked away.
I couldn’t bring myself to tell her that Kingsley made his way to New Kingston and since I stepped my legs in New Kingston, I have never made mention of Maya.
Why would I?
How could I bring myself to telling her that I killed Maya? I just couldn’t talk about Maya. It was best she found out herself.
But then, I doubted that because she was being difficult and I knew she wouldn’t accept my offer of coming back to Cleveland.
“I mean it and there is absolutely nothing you will do or say to me that will make me change my mind. I am not going to Cleveland for no reason. And you won’t make me do it!!” She snarled, placing so much emphasis on every single word she uttered.
I wore a straight face and tears gradually swelled up in my eyes. “And what next? What next when you get to realize that this isn’t normal? How will you cope with it when outside forces start making an appearance here in New Kingston because of them?” I queried as I pointed at their room door.
“Why can’t you see that I am trying my best to be here for you and the kids?” I muttered.
“Then stop trying, Rex. Stop!!” She snapped immediately as she looked right into my eyes.
Her every refusal. Her constant rejection was like I have a wooden stake close to my heart and the slightest shift, I would have myself dead.
I remained quiet as I kept looking at her. I exhaled gently as I looked away.
“You still need me. They need me, Elena and you know it.” I muttered as I turned back to where she stood as I looked at her.
“For their protection and safety, Elena. Who will they rely on for protection? You? Marie? They need a stronger male to defend them against potential threats and teach them how to be cautious.” I said in defense as I looked at her.
She remained quiet as she looked away. “I am not letting you take my kids and I am not returning to the pack. You know, it’s crazy how you chased me out of your pack, told your cheap slut how horrible I was in bed and here you are, acting all selfless and loving. You should probably rot in hell because the Elena you knew died when you chased her out of your pack, Rex!!” She cursed.
“And for Kanu and Kiana, I can take care of them. I will teach them everything they need to know about being a werewolf.” She scowled as she looked at him.
“And how do you intend to do that? You are free to hate me but just let me make it up to you, Elena. For their sake, Elena.” I pleaded but she wouldn’t still give in.
