Elena’s POV.
Killian drew away from me, turning around, and started heading out. Green, the lead warrior who I suppose was going with us quickly ran after him, leaving Darius and I behind.
“Darius, you can’t keep defiling his orders, Killian has quite a temper and he’s dangerous when he’s angry, please for your sake,” I pleaded.
“He is an asshole, you know that,” Darius spat and I chuckled.
“I can’t agree that he isn’t, but he is my mate, so…
“Have you really made up your mind to move on with him?” His next words hit me hard across the ears.
I racked through my head for a suitable reply but my head seemed to have gone numb for a while, I felt stuck in between thick layers.
“Elena, c’mon, walk beside me,” Killian’s voice suddenly snapped me out of my trance. That was exactly the rescue that I needed.
I casted Darius a quick glance before hurriedly walking towards Killian.
I was overwhelmed by his outburst, I couldn’t believe he wanted to walk beside me, why then has he been hostile towards me all this while? He probably has realized his mistakes now. So I thought until his next words filtered into my ears.
“I need to keep my eyes on you both, you’ve done enough,”
My palms slowly curled up into a tight fist as deep anger brewed inside me. To think I had believed he genuinely wanted to walk with me.
There were so many things that I wanted to say to him right now, but instead, I decided to ignore his insensitive comment and focus on rescuing my children.
Halfway out of the pack ground, I sighted Luna Drusilla walking towards us with a filled up basket in her hands. Aria walked behind with Emily.
“Son,” she called out to Killian as we drew close, flashing him a warm smile.
“Mother,” he mumbled and pulled her into a tight hug.
“I need you to be extremely careful and calculative, we all know Aragorn to be cunning, don’t let him get you,” she said and Killian nodded like a little child taking orders from his mother.
She tapped his cheeks playfully and turned towards Green, the warrior. “Here,” she handed the basket over to him.
“I don’t know how long your journey might be, but I’ve packed up enough food that would last you all for a while,”
“Thank you, Luna Drusilla,” he bowed, taking the basket from her.
Green and Darius walked forward, leaving Killian and I behind, he proceeded to converse with Emily while Luna Drusilla approached me.
“Dear Elena,” she flashed me the warmest smile.
I was shocked by her warmness towards me, I had expected her to be bitter after everything that had transpired between her son and I these few days, I had expected her to see my faults.
“Luna Drusilla, please forgive me for…
“Shhh.” She quickly cut me off with a smile.
“It’s okay, you did nothing wrong dead, you are just a victim of circumstance,” she said.
I couldn’t hold back my smile. It felt good to see someone view my predicament from a different angle.
“Thank you so much, Luna Drusilla, for your kind words, I appreciate them,” I mumbled.
“I heard about the kids, my grandchildren,” she said and my heart missed a beat. There was something about how she mentioned the “grandchildren” that filled my heart with so much joy, it felt as though she already accepted them as a part of the family even before seeing them before.
“I promise you, they are his, when we return with them, any form of confirmation ritual could be conducted, I won’t mind,” I rattled and she chuckled amusedly.
“It’s okay, Killian trusts they are his, it’s enough for me,” she replied.
My eyes snapped wide open in shock. “He does?” I found myself asking.
“Yes, I had suggested that they might not be his and you needed to see how willing he was to swear with anything that you were saying the truth, he trusts you,”
I couldn’t help the smile that broke out on my face. So Killian trusts me this much and yet he was keeping his nose up and being extremely annoying as though he was mad at me.
“I’m really sorry for not speaking up earlier about the kids, Aragorn had me ruffled with fear,” I said and she nodded.
“Not a single sorry from you about this situation Elena, it’s entirely not your fault,” she replied.
She suddenly took a close look at me.
“Hold on, don’t tell me you are going with them,” she raised her brows at me.
“Aragorn has messed with my head enough, I want to witness his downfall,” I replied.
“You don’t seem like you can be talked out of this so I’m going to reserve my speech,” she shrugged.
“Be careful alright? And stick to Killian, he will protect you with his life,” she added.
If only she knew Killian had sworn not to care about my safety.
“I will.” I smiled, trying so hard to hide my sadness.
She patted my back and walked away. Almost immediately, Emily jumped into my arms, she was done with her conversation with Killian. “Aunt Elena, Grandma told me you are going on a dangerous mission with that,” she said and I nodded with a smile.
Such a sweet child.
“Will you come back home safe?”
“No, she will not,” Aria roughly dragged her from my arms, her burning gaze piercing into my skin.
“Mother, that’s not a fair thing to say,” Emily grumbled.
“Be quiet this minute Emily, and go meet grandma,” Aria scolded.
“When are you really going to die finally huh?” She spat, taking a step closer towards me. “Two death attempts in just a week, and yet you always find a way to survive, Can’t you read the statement of the universe? Everything on earth wants you dead, Don’t you think you should save yourself the stress and die already?”
“Death?” I chuckled sarcastically. “I’ve battled it severally that I think it’s scared of me now, don’t you think?”
“You want to know what I think? Yeah, I think you are a bitter bitch who likes to take what belongs to others,” she was beginning to yell now.
“What is this about? Run it up quick, I need to run along my ream, they are almost out of the pack,”
“I’m talking about your shitty story about having kids for Killian, we both know it’s a plot to tie him down,” she spat.
I couldn’t hold back the croaked laughter that bubbled out of my mouth. “Is that fear I sense?”
“You are scared that I will kick you out of his life now? I mean you have just one kid and I have two,” I stopped to let each letter of my words sink deeply into her mind before continuing.
“Shouldn’t this tell you that I’m always going to be one step ahead of you?” I chuckled.
“You are on the edge now Aria and I can easily crush you,” I covered the space between us and leaned over her ear.
“Maybe I actually will,” I whispered.
