Elena’s POV.
The early morning sun rays penetrating into the room through the window and hitting my eyes propped me to push my eyelids slowly open until my eyes were wide open.
Thanks to the constant medicine and ointments that the healer has been shoving down my throat every second, I felt very energetic and no pain was detected. Though there was still one part of me that ached so badly.
My heart.
It ached everytime I remembered Killian, he hasn’t returned since the last time that he left here. It felt like he has abandoned me to my faith.
The last time that he was here, he had confessed his undying love for me, I couldn’t help but wonder if it still remained that way or something has changed his mind?
I had no idea what he was up to, and each time I asked the healer, she always flashed me a smile and assured me that everything was fine, but I could tell that it wasn’t.
I needed answers desperately, I needed to know if he had stayed true to his promise and forgave Darius, I also needed to know his preparations for the rescue of our children. But how do I get these answers when he seemed to be a million feet away from me and no one seem to give me a reasonable reply anytime I asked.
Of course I knew I hurt him deeply, I connived with his enemy to kill him and even when I had a change of mind, I couldn’t trust him enough to tell him the truth, but I didn’t entirely deserve this level of resentment.
Why does it feel like he was punishing me?
I stirred slowly on the bed and made to turn the other side of the bed when my eyes suddenly caught sight of a pair of legs at the entrance of the ward, slowly, I dragged my gaze up until they landed on the face that I have yearned to see for what felt like eternity.
Surprisingly, he muttered incoherent words under his breath and turned slightly in a bid to walk away but I was quick enough to sit up on the bed and called out to him.
“You were supposed to be asleep Elena,” he muttered, walking fully into the room.
“Why? Because you want me to be?” I raised my brows at him.
“How are you feeling? The wound, is it properly healed yet?”
I could tell he was trying to avoid the question, his eyes were everywhere but my face. He was avoiding my gaze.
“Killian, what’s going on? Why does it feel like you are avoiding me? You agreed to have forgiven me,”
“This is a lot complicated than you are thinking of it, right now I’m more focused on how to rescue my kids from Aragorn,” he replied.
“Our kids Killian, and shouldn’t I be informed about every development each step of the way?”
He drew out a low hiss and looked away. “You don’t have to know the preparations, be rest assured that the kids will be brought back home in one piece,”
“I will be doing that with your little man toy,”
His last words pierced into me like a sharp dagger. “Don’t call him that, please.”
“Why? Isn’t that what he is?” He snorted.
“Wait, why are you being such a jerk?” I fired back at him. I had gotten tired of his undefined coldness towards me.
“Maybe because I can’t stand the fact that another man seems to love my mate more than I do!” He yelled. “There, I said it, are you happy now?”
I stared blankly at him, words refusing to spill from my mouth.
“Is that what you think?” I finally found my voice.
“Well, you are not the one who had a conversation with him, that man will lay down his life for you!” He growled.
“And you won’t do same for me?” I growled back at him.
“I want to be the only one to do it, I don’t want to to compete with anyone over you,”
“It doesn’t matter Killian, you don’t have to compete with Darius, I chose you, I will always choose you, and I will continue to choose you everyday,” tears were beginning to well up in my eyes.
“And what are you going to do about him? You accepted to be his mate same way you accepted to be mine.”
“I will find a way to break things off with him,”
“Why? You don’t consider how he will feel?”
“Oh, and now you do? You were going to kill him remember?” I flared up. I was fed up with his insensitive behavior.
“This is about you, don’t try to switch things up!” He yelled.
“Or maybe this is actually about you, you are the one switching things up right now,” I yelled back at him.
He raised his brows angrily at me. “What are you talking about?”
“You are angry at me, you clearly are, and you are bottling it in, you don’t know how to get it out,”
“Stop talking this minute, Elena,” his eyes glistened with burning anger.
“Why? Because it’s the truth? Go on, yell at me, scream it out, say something, I don’t care how hurtful, just freaking let it out!”
“I’m not doing this with you,”
“Well, I want to do this.”
“Elena,” he called through gritted teeth, it was obvious that he was trying to control himself and I didn’t want that, I needed him to let his heart out. He was channelling his anger towards a different direction.
“I only came to see you before I leave, I didn’t even expect you to be awake,” he said in a more calm voice.
“Leaving to where?” I found myself asking.
“To rescue the kids, I have been keeping a tab on him and I know where to find him,” he replied.
“Why am I getting to know about this now?”
“Because it has nothing to do with you,” he spat.
“That’s exactly where you are wrong, it has everything to do with me, and I’m coming with you,” I stared him dead in the eyes as the words left my mouth.
