Marie’s POV.
Talking about me, here is my home. I was born here and also, raised up here in New Kingston and if there is anything I would want for myself, it would be a “beautiful happily thereafter” also here in New Kingston.
Five years ago, I bumped into a Pregnant Elena and she never told me her true story not until a few months back when her fated mate ditched her and sent her out of their pack because of his girlfriend who was pregnant for him.
I couldn’t help but hate him but then, I had bumped into his beta, Clark and my whole life paused as I instantly fell deeply for him.
I felt safe being around him and gradually, I began seeing the good in Rex King also.
I still couldn’t leave Elena as I understood why she was being scared but then, I wouldn’t say that she hated him completely too. I still saw those little signs, her racing heart and how her cheeks get red whenever her two little and adorable kids talk about Rex.
And today, hearing Kiana wish that Rex was their dad made her heart race fast again and her cheeks to get red, flustered with so much emotion.
“Come over, let’s eat.” She muttered as she raised her eyebrows as she looked at me before looking at Kanu and Kiana who rushed to the dining table immediately.
“Come on, what did I say about food hygiene?” She tilted her lips as she looked at them and they hurriedly got down from the dining chair as they rushed into the kitchen to wash their hands.
And immediately after that, they were back to the mini dining room as they sat down.
We had a brief prayer before eating.
“No talking on the table!!” She said in a cold voice as they kept quiet immediately.
And within a few minutes they were done, leaving just me and Elena to ourselves.
“You don’t have to say anything in defense.” I forced out a broad smile as I looked at Elena.
“You know you won’t be able to hide his identity forever, right? So why don’t you just let them know who their dad is?” I said in a suggestive tone as I looked at her.
She rolled her eyes to their direction as tears swelled up in her eyes. “I want a peaceful and safe life for them. I don’t want them getting involved in Rex’s life, Marie.” She whimpered as she kept looking at them.
“Can’t you see that the more you want them away, the closer they get and when they eventually grow up, you won’t be able to keep the truth from them.” I said in defense as I looked at her. “Why can’t you just let him in? You know, I know you still feel something for him and you have always done so why make this any more difficult than it is already?” I queried as I rolled my eyes.
“As long as they bear Toussaint, then we have nothing to worry about.” She muttered as she looked at me. “Trust me, living here in New Kingston happens to be the best thing for them. The moment they make it back to Cleveland, everything would automatically change, his enemies would come for them as well. It’s better this way, Marie.” She winced as she got up.
“Rex is their father and he will be able to protect them. So, what if his enemies find out about the kids? You know we can’t protect them because we can’t even protect ourselves.” I whined as I raised my eyebrows.
“Come on, Elena. I think you just have to give him a chance. And you know? I really think he made his way back to New Kingston because of you and not the kids and on reaching here, he found out that you were pregnant before leaving New Kingston.” I said in a calm tone, hoping that she would accept.
“Okay, can we stop talking about him and why he made it back to New Kingston?” She sneered as she raised her eyebrows as she turned to me. “I want nothing to do with him. I’m doing just perfectly fine and if it means running all the rest of our lives, then I would happily do that.” She said as she forced out a broad smile.
I groaned as I rubbed my forehead with my right hand. “You can’t be serious, Elena!!” I rolled my eyes as I looked at her. “And you know that I have always been against you running from one city to another? And how do you even think you will be able to run forever?” I chuckled softly as we did the dishes.
“Well, are you underestimating me here?” She whined as she paused for a while. “It’s not difficult running, you know?” She chuckled. “All you need to do is run to a place where they would least suspect and you may still be in that same city but maybe, far from where he once lived.” She raised her eyebrows as I stared at her.
“But you know, Rex looks like a good man and yes, I know he messed up once but you told me there was a time he loved you so much, Elena.” I chirped in as she remained quiet for a while.
“It doesn’t change anything. And I keep wondering why he would come all the way searching for me when his beloved girlfriend, Maya, was already pregnant for him.” She rolled her eyes as she dried the plates before putting them neatly inside the cabinet beneath the sink.
“Maya?” I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at her. “And what if he abandoned her because of you?” I sneered as I watched her cheeks fluster again before she wore a straight face.
“Can we stop talking about him? Don’t forget, tomorrow is another full moon night and I would love to be there as my two little adorable angels transform into their wolf form.” She snapped as she looked at me.
“Okay, fine!!” I shrugged as I stopped trying to convince her into accepting Rex back into her life.
