Desdemona’s POV.
“The Eleven?” He gasped out as he stared at me.
“Yeah, The Eleven!” I strongly affirmed as I was now hellbent to getting my feet there no matter what.
“Why there? How did you even know about it?” He questioned as he furrowed his eyebrows.
He looked right into my eyes like he was searching for the answers to the two questions he just asked me.
I chuckled light-heartedly as I looked right into his eyes. “Why wouldn’t I know? I lived here in New Kingston once even if not all my life and even if our pack house wasn’t originally here when my father was still alive.” I quickly covered up immediately as I forced out a broad smile.
“Oh, yeah! Pardon me. You know, it’s just that you haven’t been here for a long time now and I never thought you would still remember The Eleven.” He responded as he chuckled softly as he made way for me to walk through and he followed me closely from behind.
“So… What changed your mind? I wanted to take you round the city and show you the beauty of New Kingston but you declined and now you just want to go to The Eleven?” He mumbled as he kept walking closely behind me.
“I just remembered that they have the best cuisine anyone would ever ask for and that is what I really need for myself.” I muttered in an excited tone as I turned around to look at him.
“Oh, hello, Desdemona?”
I turned around as my eyes met with Collins’ eyes.
“Hello, Collins?” I responded almost immediately as I forced out a broad smile on my face as I looked at him.
“You seem to be heading out?” He muttered as he reciprocated back my broad smile.
“Yeah. Just a little sightseeing. It has been almost a year and when Damian and the rest brought me back, I saw a lot of changes as well which made me wonder how many other things have changed too.” I quickly responded.
“Why don’t I tag along?” He suggested as he looked at me, still wearing that broad smile on his face.
“Umm, heh.” I chuckled softly. “You don’t have to. I already told Ace to come along. He is enough for me.” I said calmly as I turned to Ace. “Should that be a problem?” I asked Ace who wore a straight face as he turned his focus from Collins as he looked at me now.
“No, it shouldn’t be.” He answered with a broad smile as he turned back to Collins.
I also turned back to Collins who now wore a straight face. “Okay then, if you say so. But… You two must be careful. You are aware that the founding families will be anywhere close to striking and also, your old friend, Jayson Holmes, he is also in town.” He said slowly, placing so much emphasis on Jayson’s name as he looked right into my eyes.
I remained calm as I forced out a smile. The thought of Jayson Holmes was one I thought I would never have to think of again or worse of it, the thought of bumping into him was a provoking one.
“You don’t have to worry about that, Collins.” I said with a smile on my face. “I am no longer that little girl anymore and I can defend myself now from Jayson Holmes.”
Without saying another word, I walked out of the lobby.
“You know what you must do, Ace!! Make sure you protect her. If Rex happens to strike back or even the founding families, then you know what that means, right?”
I overheard Collins whispering to Ace as I wasn’t completely out of the house yet. Everyone seems to have a secret they are keeping to themselves.
“Was he talking about Rex King?” I couldn’t help but ask Ace the moment we made our way out of the house.
“Eavesdropping? Guess you haven’t changed yet!!” He sneered as he turned around to have a look at me.
“Oh, come on, Ace. Don’t give me that look.” I chuckled softly as I looked at him. “I just got back to New Kingston and everything happens to be strange to me, at least, for the time being. Eventually I will be able to fit in without eavesdropping on every little conversation going on in this place we call a pack house.” I said as I rolled my eyes as I looked outside the car.
“Well, yes! He was talking about Rex King.” He finally answered my question before looking away.
“So what business does he have with Rex King?” I asked again as I was trying to gather information on the one man I have always spoken about on the phone with his core enemy, Kingsley.
“I thought he was a gentle man?” I chirped in as Ace wouldn’t give in yet.
“You seem interested in knowing about him. We are headed to his hotel and resort, so why don’t you just take a chill breath and wait for us to get there?” He responded in a husky voice.
I knew he was not planning on telling me. He always used that husky voice when he had no much interest in talking about something.
“Actually, I am interested in talking about him.” I muttered as I looked at him. “He once had a wife who he chased out of his pack for his girlfriend.” I smothered as I watched Ace gradually picking interest in what I was saying.
“But then, he killed his girlfriend. That was the part that was hidden from the media. One thing with powerful Alphas. They commit a crime and then go on to hide it under a carpet. Horrible men.” I rolled my eyes before tilting my lips.
“And how did you manage to know that?” He looked at the rearview mirror as he looked at me.
“I have a friend in Cleveland who seems to know about Rex so well.” I responded.
