November 15, an auspicious day.
The Ellison family residence was brightly lit and bustling from the early morning. Servants and staff moved back and forth, and everywhere was decorated in festive red.
Charlotte woke up early and hired the best makeup artists and stylists in the city. She sat in front of the mirror, getting her makeup done and putting on her wedding attire. Everyone who saw her praised her prettiness.
Charlotte responded with a smile and signaled the servants to hand out gifts.
Although this wedding was not as grand as Marilyn and Jaquan’s, it was clear that the Ellison family was treating it with utmost importance.
Early in the morning, Sienna quietly sent someone to bring Marilyn out of the rehab center. Her eyes were vacant, and she looked desolate. Seeing the grand scene, she asked in a daze, “What day is it today?”
The servant stammered, “It’s… it’s Miss Charlotte’s wedding with Nelson.”
“Wedding…” Marilyn’s dry lips moved, unable to react for a moment. After a while, she suddenly smiled, “Charlotte and Nelson… are getting married…”
A memory flashed in her mind of the boy she had longed for standing under the mango tree outside the school after the college entrance exam. His expression was indifferent, but at that moment, he was there for her…
Marilyn couldn’t control the bitterness in her heart. She forced a smile, “The person I pursued for so many years is getting married.”
“Miss…”
“Let’s go back.”
The Ellison family was lively. To avoid attracting attention, Marilyn was brought in through the back door. Dressed in plain clothes, she stood out among the red decorations, but no one dared to say anything.
In Charlotte’s room, she had finished her makeup and was discussing details with the stylist.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open from outside, startling everyone. They turned to see Marilyn’s pale and frail face.
She stood quietly at the door. Charlotte gasped, “Everyone, please leave.”
Soon, only the two of them were left in the room. Marilyn closed the door behind her and walked step by step towards Charlotte, scrutinizing her. “Mrs. Oconnor?”
Charlotte pressed her lips together. She had never dared to look Marilyn in the eye.
“Marilyn, you’re back.”
“Marilyn is not a name you can call.”
“Mother asked me to come back for the ceremony. You did well to reach this point so quickly.”
Charlotte forced a smile, “Isn’t this what you always wanted? You told me to do this.”
Marilyn nodded, then suddenly reached out and slapped her hard.
Charlotte’s head turned from the impact, smudging her makeup with a clear handprint on her cheek. She breathed heavily.
“Now that you’ve gotten this far, how much of it was for me? Wearing Maevelyn’s mask, you really think you’re Maevelyn.” Marilyn’s tone was sarcastic and sharp. “You’re proud to have what I couldn’t get.”
Charlotte took a deep breath and stood up straight again. “When we first met, you told me to become Maevelyn, to become Nelson’s wife. Now that I’ve done it, you’re not satisfied? Are you jealous of me?”
Marilyn remembered their first meeting in Jaquan’s office. She had just learned Callie’s true identity and didn’t know what to do. Jaquan had reassured her and then called Charlotte in. “What do you think of her?”
Marilyn had been stunned. “She…”
“She looks very similar, enough to pass for real.”
Soon, Charlotte joined the plan. She underwent plastic surgery and got tattoos, started interacting with Nelson step by step until today.
