Callie opened her eyes wearily. “I will never submit to you in this life.”
“How tough.”
Charlotte took out her phone from her pocket and casually flipped through the photo album, showing it to her one by one. “The venue for tomorrow’s wedding is already set up. Look, isn’t it beautiful?”
In the photos, there were white roses as far as the eye could see, and a red carpet laid out luxuriously.
Callie turned her head away.
Charlotte forced her to look. “Nelson came to walk through the process with me today. See, his hand is on my waist. Isn’t it nice?”
Callie glanced at the photo. Nelson was indeed in it. She couldn’t see his expression clearly, but his presence there said it all.
Did he know she was missing? Did he not care?
“Tomorrow, we will walk down this red carpet in front of the guests. Father and Mother will give speeches at our wedding. Nelson will call my parents Mom and Dad. We will become a family.” Charlotte spoke slowly, savoring each word.
Callie’s previously calm heart shattered at the mention of becoming a family. She finally reacted. “You are shameless.”
“You are the shameless one!” Charlotte was furious. She grabbed Callie’s chin, forcing her to look at her. “The wedding tomorrow will be live-streamed. I will make you watch as Nelson puts the ring on my finger and says the vows with me. Everything you couldn’t have, I will get.”
“And everything you get, I will take away.”
With that, Charlotte released Callie and stood up to leave.
Outside the factory, the bald man followed her, looking heavy-hearted.
“What’s wrong?” Charlotte asked.
The bald man swallowed hard. “Tomorrow, do we really have to deal with her?”
“What else? If you don’t deal with her, she will come after me.” Charlotte raised her voice. “Are you scared?”
“No… Charlotte, it’s just… I don’t think it’s necessary. You’re getting married, she can’t cause any trouble. Do we really have to kill her?”
“Feeling sorry for her?” Charlotte showed no fear. “Do you know who she is? She has taken everything from me over the years. If she escapes, all my efforts will be in vain!”
The bald man nodded but still looked conflicted.
“Bald, when I saved you back then, I didn’t think so much. Now that I need you to repay me, are you unwilling?” Charlotte’s expression softened.
The bald man shook his head immediately. “Of course not. I will repay your life-saving grace. As soon as the wedding ceremony is over tomorrow, I’ll take care of it.”
Seeing this, Charlotte nodded and turned to leave.
“Charlotte,” he called out again.
“What else?”
“… Congratulations on your wedding,” the bald man scratched his head.
Hearing this, Charlotte smiled. “Thanks.”
She retraced her steps, needing to walk a stretch of mountain road. The eerie silence made her cautious until she finally saw the lights of the Ellison family home and felt slightly relieved.
The back door of the Ellison family home led to the back mountain. The housekeeper had been pacing for a long time and finally heard a sound-the tapping of a cane approaching.
The door opened, revealing Ahmad’s figure.
“Sir, where did you go?” The housekeeper approached him.
Ahmad’s face was as solemn as ever. “Couldn’t sleep, so I took a walk in the back mountain.”
“Alone? The back mountain is eerie and dangerous.”
Ahmad sighed deeply. “Help me back to my room.”
The housekeeper glanced outside before responding slowly, “Alright.”
