“You think I’m jealous of you?” Marilyn sneered at the woman in front of her. “You think putting on this facade makes you a new person? I know your past. You might fool everyone else, but not me. You’ll never be Callie.”
Charlotte’s fingers clenched tightly, her whole body trembling as Marilyn hit her sore spot.
Marilyn enjoyed seeing her like this. “What do you think would happen if I told everyone right now that you’re a fraud, that you’re not Maevelyn at all?”
As she spoke, she imagined the scene and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Charlotte, enraged, grabbed a cushion from the sofa and threw it at Marilyn. “Lunatic…”
“I’ve already gotten into drugs, and Jaquan is missing. At worst, we’ll all die together. I don’t mind.”
Charlotte’s mind raced. Marilyn was on drugs and capable of anything.
She stared at her with a strange look. “Then go ahead, tell Nelson, tell Sienna and Ahmad that I’m a fake, that you and Jaquan planned this whole thing. You can also tell them how you helped me gain their trust. Go on, I’d love to see how they react.”
They were all in this together; if one went down, they all would.
Marilyn hadn’t expected Charlotte to be so sharp-tongued now. At first, she hadn’t even dared to speak.
She shook her head in disbelief. “You’ve really changed.”
“I was forced to.” Charlotte quickly replied, grabbing Marilyn’s wrist. “I’ll tell you this: Jaquan is hiding in Anbusea. As long as we’re not at the end of our rope, the plan can continue. But if you want us all to die together, I don’t mind.”
Her confidence made Marilyn narrow her eyes. “Jaquan is in Anbusea? How do you know?”
“Nelson told me himself. There’s no mistake.”
Marilyn’s eyes narrowed further as she scrutinized Charlotte’s expression.
Charlotte pushed her away. “I’ll say it again: if you’re jealous of what I’ve got and you didn’t get, there’s no need to be. It’s laughable to regret your own choices, isn’t it?”
Marilyn took a few steps back, wanting to laugh but unable to. At this point, she was being manipulated by this girl.
After a long standoff, Marilyn straightened up. “Charlotte, you haven’t fallen for Nelson, have you?”
Having heard many people call her Miss Ellison and Maevelyn, Charlotte felt a wave of discomfort at hearing this long-forgotten name.
“My name is not Charlotte; it’s Holly.”
Marilyn sneered. “I’m asking you a question.”
Charlotte sat back down and picked up a brush to touch up her makeup, her back to Marilyn.
“Marilyn, let me give you some advice. Some people will never be yours. Clinging to Nelson and attacking him in business to get his attention is pointless. At this point, he won’t even look at you. Don’t let your possessiveness get the better of you.”
“You damn…”
“I’ve had enough of living in poverty; I just want to climb higher. Love doesn’t matter to me, so don’t worry.” Charlotte’s eyelashes trembled.
Marilyn took several deep breaths to control her anger. She looked at the woman in the mirror and gritted her teeth. “You’d better be.”
With that, she turned and left.
She didn’t notice someone hiding in the corner at the end of the hallway.
