Collins’ POV.
“Darn it! Darn it!!” I cursed as I kept on pacing about. “Damian would be pulling in today from Chicago and he is coming back with someone very important, Ace. So, get Dahlia to the safe house, she needs to be protected by the pack warriors considering the fact that I have made myself known by the founding families and now they should be very much aware that I am the Alpha of the Night Wolves pack which means, they will want to retaliate with all their might.” I said as I furrowed my eyebrows.
Ace remained quiet as he looked at me. He nodded his head at intervals, showing that he was paying close attention to everything it was that I was saying.
“Jayson believes that Desdemona is dead. Everyone believes so.” I said in a husky voice as I turned to Ace.
I smirked as I saw his eyes go wild in shock. I had lied to Edgar as well about her survival and watching him die without any idea of his daughter was one heartbreaking moment he had to go through but then, that was my only Leverage.
“Desdemona? Alive??” Ace gasped out as he looked right into my eyes.
“Yeah, you heard that right, Ace.” I said with a broad smile on my face. “Damian will be in New Kingston soon with her and a few pack warriors I have placed in Chicago as well.” I muttered as I looked at Ace.
“How long were you planning on keeping it away from everyone?” He queried as he gave me a dirty glare now.
I knew he was going to be upset. He was the closest to Edgar and out of loyalty to Edgar, he had vowed to serve me and also, continue his service to the pack.
“Oh! Come on, Ace. If I had told you, you would have only ruined my plans and that was one thing I never wanted.” I scowled as I brought out my cigarette as I took out my customized lighter.
“One way or the other, we have all suffered in the hands of the founding werewolves’ families and now is the time where we get to strike so hard without looking back.” I smothered as I puffed my cigarette.
“Edgar was a peaceful man.” Ace snapped, still not buying my entire plan.
“I know you are angry, Ace. But what do you think? That Edgar made me become the next Alpha because of how I saved Desdemona? Do you think that is it?” I scowled as I furrowed my eyebrows.
“He knew that I was the man for the job. He knew with me as Alpha, I wouldn’t give up easily, not until I made them pay dearly for everything they did and you know, they all have their hands stained, one way or the other. But who gives a fuck? They control New Kingston as a whole, the police, the lawyers and judges and a few politicians are all in their pockets, Ace.” I snarled angrily as I looked at him.
He exhaled heavily as he turned away. “First thing first, bring Desdemona back.” Ace scowled as he raised his eyebrows. “And after that, we can talk about your whole big plan.” He sighed before making his way towards the door.
“Everything I did was for the pack, just know that!!” I said in a loud voice.
He stopped halfway as he turned around as he looked at me. “For the pack?” He scoffed. “I thought so not until a few minutes ago and you want to know? You may be the Alpha, but lying to everyone about Desdemona was where you got it all wrong. And, come to think of it, how do you think the other pack members would react to the news of Desdemona being alive?” He scowled angrily as he rolled his eyes.
“I never kept it away from all of you. Damian and those in Chicago are aware of her being alive.” I said in defense.
“Damian and those in Chicago? Of which you are their true Alpha because you turned them to werewolves. But a lot of us here, we served Edgar because he turned us, he made us who we are and to some, it’s a lineage of loyalty, we were born into the pack.” Ace furrowed his eyebrows.
Still in our argument, my phone rang as I answered it immediately. “They are here!!” I shrugged as I looked at Ace.
And without wasting time, he made his way outside as he stood there as Damian and the other pack warriors from Chicago made their way inside the compound in a black Rolls Royce phantom convoy.
Damian alighted the car as he opened the back door as Desdemona made her way out. I saw the smile she wore the moment her eyes met with Ace’s eyes.
“Miss. Desdemona?” He said in a calm voice as he stepped down from the stairs as he embraced her. “Welcome back to New Kingston.” He mumbled as he pulled off as he looked at her.
I stood there as I watched them indulge in a brief get together.
“Hello, Desdemona.” I mumbled as I stepped down to where they stood.
She remained silent as she watched me get close enough to where they stood. “Nice seeing you again, Collins.” She said in a calm voice as she looked right into my eyes.
“I must say, you are doing a great job here.” She complimented as she walked past me as she looked at the pack house. “It feels good to be home again.” She said before turning back to look at me as she smirked.
I felt my wolf sprawling as I was now torn in between. But then, I had no better option than to bring her back to New Kingston. Looking at her facial expression, I knew she was definitely up to something but, “what could it be?” I questioned as I reciprocated her one sided smile.
