Chapter 99

Mia’s POV
“Who are you, and what do you want?” Xavier boldly asked them while
trying to shield me behind him.
It’s not as if I asked for his help, but let’s just go with it.
The rogues looked at each other and laughed.
“It’s not your place to know who we are. Hand over the girl-that’s why
we’re here.”
“Excuse you?” I scoffed. “Am I supposed to know who you are? And why
the hell do you think you can control what I do?”
I can’t deny that their eyes were scary. Just looking at them made me
shiver a little bit, especially since I didn’t want to reveal my wolf to them.
But I don’t know these people. What could they want from me?
Are they perverts looking for female werewolves to violate? That could
be the only reasonable explanation because I don’t see any connection to
why they might want me.
Or… are they organ-trafficking werewolves?
The thing about organ-trafficking werewolves is that they kill other
werewolves and supply their organs to people who practice dark magic.
It has been a thing in the werewolf world for a long time, and many pack
leaders have tried to stop it.
“Little wolf, we’re not here to hurt you. Our boss, in particular, wants to
see you. You just have to come if you want him to be alive,” one of them
said, pointing at Xavier.
I almost wanted to laugh.
Do they think I care if he’s alive or not?
The only reason I saved him this time was because my wolf asked me to.
My wolf was also the only thing keeping me calm in this situation-
otherwise, I would have freaked out.
I stepped toward them a little but still maintained my distance in case
they attacked.
“I don’t think you guys understand anything here,” I said. “I don’t care
what you do to him, so kill him if you want to.”
I looked at Xavier, expecting to see disappointment on his face. But he
didn’t even look disappointed. I mean, he should expect this much from
me.
“You’re saying you want us to kill him?” one of them asked, sounding
surprised.
“Why? Is it so surprising?” I crossed my arms. “Stop beating around the
bush and tell me what you want from me. I don’t think I’ve seen you
people before.”
“You don’t get to ask questions. You just have to come with us, and you
won’t get hurt,” the one who seemed to be their leader replied again.
I wonder who this boss is-the one who wants them to bring me to him.
The person couldn’t come find me himself and instead had to send his
minions?
“You all are daring enough,” Xavier fired at them. “You think I’m going
to let you take her away when I’m around?”
Then they started preparing their weapons to fight us.
I was serious now. Since they were the ones who set this trap, their
weapons could be poisoned-we needed to dodge them. I wasn’t exactly
worried about myself because I would recover fast, but I was worried
about him.
I also had to think-how did they know I would be here?
Could it be that I have someone stalking me?
“Bring it on, you bastards!” I shouted.
Xavier stopped me. “What the hell are you thinking, Mia? You shouldn’t
be doing this. Just stay back, and I’ll deal with them!”
I jerked his hands away. “Don’t touch me, you jerk! I might not have a
wolf, but I know how to defend myself. Do you think I’m still the same
girl you knew?”
“I’m tired of this nonsense! Attack them right away. Make sure the girl is
alive!” the leader ordered, and the fight began.
Though I wasn’t able to do much, I was fast enough-thanks to my wolf.
I defeated most of the ones who came at me.
After we thought we had defeated all of them and were finally ready to
leave, the leader was still standing.
I found it strange that we had been able to defeat them so easily.
“Now talk to us and tell us who sent you to get her,” Xavier questioned
him.
The rogue laughed. “You’re so funny if you think I’m going to tell you
anything. I know you’re wasting your time-you won’t get anything
from me. And don’t think this is over just yet… because it’s only the
beginning.”
The evil smile on his face made me wonder what he meant.
Then I saw them-lots of men coming after us.
That’s what he meant.
It wasn’t over.
This time, they were twice as many.
I saw Xavier preparing to fight them, but I stopped him.
“You idiot!” I whispered. “Just because I healed you doesn’t mean the
poison is out of your system. Your body hasn’t fully recovered. Do you
really want to waste your strength fighting them?”
“Then what do you suggest we do?”
“Run!” I grabbed his hand and took off through the woods.
They kept coming after us in great numbers, and it felt like they were
hiding all over the woods. We kept running, deeper and deeper, with no
sense of direction.
After some time, we finally arrived at a place where they couldn’t see us.
We hid and waited.
When we saw that the coast was clear, we came out of our hiding place.
We wanted to run again, but there were still too many of them in the
woods. We had to wait.
A long time passed, and soon it was evening.
Since they didn’t come to this side of the woods for some reason, we had
no choice but to camp out here.
There was an awkward silence between us.
Neither of us wanted to be the first to speak.
In fact, I didn’t want to be in this situation with him at all. But here we
were.
“Are you cold?” he asked, seeing me blow warm air into my hands.
Don’t tell me he’s about to give me his jacket or something.
I immediately declined before he could even ask.
“You don’t have to give me your jacket-I don’t need it.”
He looked at me in confusion.
“I didn’t say I was going to give you my jacket,” he replied. “I just
wanted to bring the fire closer to you.”
I nodded.
What was I expecting from him?
Yeah, right-I should expect less from someone like him.
I moved closer to the fire, ignoring him. But he came to sit beside me,
like he was testing my patience.
“You said you didn’t want my jacket, but now you’re mad that I wasn’t
going to give it to you anyway,” he said. “What exactly do you want?”
