CHAPTER 89

ANASTASIA
Morning, I woke up to a pounding ache in my own head.
I took the pill as Arnold had said and it didn’t take long for me to fall asleep. But waking up eight hours later, I felt so weak.
Like the Beta said, this is a sign that the drug is holding the infection. But the weakness I’m feeling is so strong.
I carefully got out of bed and walked up to the wall, staring at it.
If someone else sees me like this, they’d think I’ve lost my senses, but I know exactly where I’m going and what I’m doing.
Stretching my hand, I reached for the secret surveillance camera on the wall and checked to see it was still unplugged.
It was. Just the way Arnold left it.
The Beta once saw Diego checking the surveillance in my room, watching me masturbate in an abnormal way.
That video almost made Diego aware of what was happening. He first assumed I was creating some kind of drama to get his attention, and that made him annoyed. But slowly, he began to see something else which he felt was strange.
Arnold had to take out the wire to keep him from finding out after seeing his reaction. It was for my own good.
He told me to always check and see if Diego came in or sent someone to fix the ruined camera without my knowledge.
But the camera is still deactivated. Diego hasn’t noticed.
Slowly and Weakly, I went into the bathroom to get myself cleaned up. After taking my bath and getting ready, I carefully made my way out of the room, heading for the dining.
Just as I was getting to the staircase, I froze on seeing Diego heading into one of the rooms right in the corridor ahead of me.
His walking movement was slow. He looked like someone who couldn’t find his way around.
In fact, the sight of jis presence made me miss my Alpha so much. I looked pass all his past outburst and decided to see him, even if it’s just a peak.
I carefully walked up to the room, took a peep inside, and saw him sitting behind a table, watching a video of some vans moving out of a warehouse at night.
Thay was clearly a CCTV footage of those vehicles moving into different directions.
“Maybe he found a trail of Woods and he’s monitoring their movement, ” I assumed.
As I was watching, I noticed Diego had stopped clicking the space bar on his laptop. He just sat there still until… “What are you doing here?” He questioned.
My heart skipped when I heard his voice. There’s no other person here except the two of us. Is he talking to me?
I got my answer when he turned around to face me. His scary eyes were locking with mine.
“What are you doing here?” He repeated, lowering down to rest his arms on his laps.
Frightened, I lowered my head and responded, “I was passing by and saw you coming in here. I just wanted to check.”
“Why?” He questioned, tilting his head.
His question only reminded me of how far apart we were from each other, and it really hurts seeing how he treats me like I’m a nobody.
“Nothing,” I said softly, clinging myself to the door.
He sighed and said, turning over to face his system, “You know what you’re supposed to do, Anna? Just head downstairs, eat your breakfast, and go back to your room. I can’t keep reminding you over and over again. You are not a child.”
“But I’m a person,” I uttered that unexpectedly, lifting my eyes at Diego.
He had paused but didn’t make a turn. His direction was on his system, but his attention… On me.
Seeing this, I summoned my courage and spoke out my heart to him. “How long will I stay indoors, Diego? I’ve gotten so tired of the same walls that I can’t stand it anymore. I need something new for once. I need a spark between… Between us again.”
He still said nothing. He was silent.
“Diego,” I called, stepping into the room. “Even if it’s just for a day out of your busy schedule, I’d be so happy if we could hang out together like old times. Or… Or maybe you can carry me along with your work. I promise not to stress or trouble you. I just…” I wrapped my arms, feeling the desire to be in his arms again.
“I just was to be with you. Please don’t send me back to the room on and on. Just for one day please… I want you,” I pleaded deeply.
But still… “I don’t have time for games, Anna,” Diego said, turning around to face me. “As you can see, I’m very busy and don’t want to be distracted.”
“It’s just for a day, Diego. Why can’t I get this one request of mine fulfilled? What… What can I do to get you to stay with me for just few hours?” I asked weakly, staring at him.
His eyes were locked with mine, but Diego turned away and said, “I don’t need you to do anything aside from eating your breakfast and going back to your room.”
He’s doing it again.
He’s pushing me away.
“You still have your sex toys, don’t you?”
“What?” My eyes came wide at Diego’s question.
“Just head back to your room and make use of it, and stop looking for all means to get me to touch you. I’ve made it clear that I am busy and don’t have time to be attending to all your needs. The least you can do is just comply and satisfy yourself with what Jeremy gave to you.”
“You think my request is to satisfy my urges?” I asked, getting stabbed in the heart.
Goddess.
He came turning over tiredly, and found my gaze still on him. This time they had more than just pains, but tears.
I was heartbroken.
He saw this but didn’t want to look at me. He had to look into another direction, running his hand on his face angrily.
“Why do you keep doing this, Anna? Can’t you see how hard I’m trying to get things done here?!” He sparked out, causing me to drift back.
“You can’t expect me to give you my whole attention when I’m out there, struggling to find you a cure! Can’t you give me some breathing space to work?!”
“I’ve been giving you your breathing space for one month now. How many more do you want from me?” I asked.
He dragged his eyes back at my point when I uttered that question.
“Go to your room, get out, what is wrong with you, go away, get out of my sight… For one month I’ve been doing all that you said and still it’s not enough? All I asked from you was just a day. Only a day to know that you are still here with me, but that has become a problem. I am taking up your space.”
“Anna just leave. You are disturbing me,” He said, facing the table to work.
And when he did this, I lost it. I couldn’t hold it in for another minute.
“I don’t even know if you’re really looking for this drug to cure me. You’re only after your revenge.”
SLAM! My heart flew right to my throat when he slammed his fist down on the table, breaking the side off!
“What did you say?” Diego questioned, turning around to glare at me.
On seeing the terror in his eyes, I went silent. My head fell down at once, with my feet slowly dragging back to stay away from him.
“No… Nothing.”
“I heard what you said. You think I’m being cruel and don’t care about your condition, don’t you?” He got to his feet, forcing me to drag back again.
“I am stressing myself out there to find a cure for you! And you’re standing here selfishly looking for a way to get me to please you all the time! How do you expect me to save your life if all you have upstairs in your head is imaginations of me fingering you and sucking down on your boobs?!”
He drew near, forcing my back to meet the wall in fright!
“That’s… I’m not thinking…”
“I don’t want to here it!” He raised his voice, shunning me.
I trembled, wishing I could dig a way through the wall and run far from here. But I was trapped. I had to stand there and receive it hot from Diego.
He grabbed my chin and said, staring right into my eyes, “You are selfish, Anna.”
I shook in his grip, unable to bear this stabbing pain.
“I know about your little tactics with Arnold. You always send him to speak to me about seeing you all the time. You better stop it otherwise I’d make you regret it,” He threatened, letting go of my chin.
I shivered and drew away, aiming for the door.
When he saw how I trembled, Diego gave out a sigh and said calmly, “Anna, just go…”
Before he could finish his statement, I ran away without looking back.
“ANNA! ANNA!!” Diego called out to me loudly, but I didn’t look back.
I ran straight to my room and locked myself up immediately. My whole body was shaking. I was scared!
I fell on my knees and broke down in tears, terrified of what would happen to me after this.
“This isn’t my Diego. I can’t feel him anymore. I’m losing him. I’M LOSING HIM!” I cried bitterly, falling face flat to the ground.
I can’t bear this anymore. I feel… “DAMMIT!” I groaned, sensing the infection taking over again.
Seems the medicine has weird off. But I can’t allow it to take over me. Not now!
Troubled, I dragged myself to the wardrobe and pulled out the device. I fell to the ground to attend to myself, but the vibration had gone really low.
It wasn’t strong enough to stop my itch!
As I struggled to work around this, my eyes fell on the pills. It’s the only thing that can help me now.
I have no other choice.
Quickly, I popped the tablets into my mouth and swallowed it up. I dragged myself into the corner and ran my hand down into my skirt, touching myself in my sweet spot until the medicine took it’s effect on me.
Feeling dizzy, I laid right there on the floor and fell asleep, calming both my itch and my pain.
.
“Anna? Come on, open up.”
“I think she’s waking up. Oh! She’s finally awake!”
I groaned over the noise I was hearing in the background while trying to open my eyes and see what was going on.
With my head aching and my gaze finally clearing up, I found both Arnold and a maid standing over me.
The maid looked terrified.
“Arnold, what is going on?” I asked, trying to sit up.
“No, just lie down.” He stopped me, making me stay down. “You need to get your strength,” He said.
I hovered my eyes around and realized I was on the bed. I know I passed out on the floor, so I guess Arnold is the one who placed me here.
But why is this maid here? Why is she looking scared?
“You can go and get her something to eat now. She’s fine.”
“But Beta, she has been…”
“I said she’s fine. Just go and get her something to ear,” Arnold ordered the maid.
She bowed her head, took one more look at me, and then left the room.
When she was gone, I asked Arnold, ” What happened?”
“Anna, how many pills did you take? I thought I told you what Jeremy said? Two pills only at night,” He questioned, picking up the container from the bedside drawer.
“You slept for more than fifteen hours!”
“What?!” I exclaimed, trying to sit up, but my body was so weak that I fell right back in bed, lying there like a vegetable.
I looked right at the clock and discovered it was ten in the night!
The window… Outside was dark!
“Fifteen hours? But I… I just took two pills this morning and…”
“You took this morning?” Arnold gazed at me in shock, checking the bottle.
“Why? The instructions were made clear. I said only two.”
“I’m… I’m sorry. I felt the itch again and… The device wasn’t working. I didn’t want to lose myself so I took two tablets,” I explained, remembering what also led to the feeling that sprang out.
“I’m sorry, ” I apologized again, feeling sad.
“Are you sure you took just two? It’s seems you took more than that number,” Arnold pointed at the time, so I’d see how late it was.
Now I can’t remember. I was rushing and… “I don’t know.”
“Anna, the maid found you lying unconscious on the floor. She almost brought this to Diego’s attention! It’s a good thing I was around when she came running. I had to tell her to stay shut,” He groaned, swiping his face stressfully.
“You got me worried. What if Diego had seen you like that?”
“I’m sorry,” I repeated, feeling guilty.
“I had no choice.”
Arnold took his hand off his face to look at me. He gave out a sigh and calmly patted me on the hand, saying, “It’s okay. You had no other option. But please…” He held my hands tight. “Don’t overdose yourself with this drugs. We don’t know the kind of harm it’ll cause. Just be careful.”
“I will,” I promised, nodding my head at him.
But the look in Arnold’s eyes felt like he didn’t trust me that much. He’s afraid I’d hurt myself.
To show him that I meant it, I gave him a smile, shaking his hand.
Arnold chuckled at my gesture and decided to go and check up on the maid. “I’ll make sure she brings your meal.”
He drew away from the bed, about to leave the room when I called out to him, stopping him on his track.
“Yes?” He uttered, turning to face me.
But when I remembered what Diego said and his threat, I held back.
“Can she add an orange drink to it?” I asked.
He smiled at my request and agreed to tell her. “Is there anything else you want?” He lifted his brow, waiting.
“No, that’s all, ” I said, making it final.
When Arnold heard this, he hummed, looking unhappy. Then he left the room.
I know why his mood changed. Arnold was waiting for me to ask about Diego.
This is what Diego misinterpreted as seeking for his attention. I only ask about him and Arnold, who always puts my best interest at heart, seems to speak to him about me, sparking an unknown rage inside Diego.
I don’t think he knows this, but I do.
And I won’t ask about him again. He… He wants his personal space.
