Chapter 94
For Always
***
“Just stop staring at me and tell me what is it? What is that something that I shouldn’t know?” Hunter repeated his question because Hector, Myrtle, and Butler Henry were just looking at him.
He couldn’t stop himself from raising a brow especially when they exchanged that kind of look.
And he knew that something was up.
They shared that meaningful glare making him to feel upset.
However, when his eyes moved to a piece of paper. From the looks of it, there was a slight clue as to what was happening already. And even him he just hoped that he didn’t have to know.
But he knew that regardless of the things that he knew, he pretended not to care.
“I should have stayed at the garden even if it is already too hot.” He commented on himself.
In that way, he might not have experienced that harsh reality right in front of him.
He smirked inwardly a sarcastic and painful one.
‘Reality slapped him real hard this time, huh?’ He mentally thought.
Myrtle let out a deep sigh.
“Whatever…” Hunter blurted out all of a sudden.
He wanted to smack himself.
Even though he wanted to simply tell them that it was okay they all knew that it wasn’t.
And he had resorted to something so cowardly pretending as if it was nothing.
“I still have a lot of things to do in the garden. Do you have some more seeds that I can plant, Myrtle?” Hunter inquired seriously.
The three pairs of eyes just looked at him as if they were trying to weigh down his reaction. But his face remained passive. He didn’t want any of their pity right now.
Heck!
He hated that kind of look!
Myrtle, who seemed to be the first one to process everything, smiled at him sweetly as if there was nothing wrong about him… As if there was no tension and awkwardness fleeting in the air.
“Well, there is-”
But Hector interrupted her coldly.
“What do you think you are doing?” He said cutting off his wife’s words at him.
This time, he looked at Hunter with dripping seriousness in his face as well as his tone of voice.
They all looked at him all worried and confused.
However, Myrtle and Butler Henry didn’t know how to stop his brother from blurting out his opinion.
Typical Hector.
Hunter might be more surprised if he wouldn’t speak his mind.
“Oh, Hector, I am just planting some plants. I still don’t have to do… Not until our parents arrived. So, for the time being, I am-”
But Hector grunted as if he knew what he was pretending to be.
Well, he was not staggered anymore because he was not so good actor anyway.
“What happened to you and Leila? You should tell us, so we know what to do, Hunter. We are your family. We are friends with Leila, too. And now, we received a news like this? That she is marrying the leader of the Triad?! With her own volition?! What the heck is that?!” Hector blurted out, annoyed.
This time, he couldn’t deny the pain, confusion, worry, and betrayal in his tone of voice something that he was also feeling right now.
“Hector…” Myrtle tried to calm her husband down but Hector didn’t want to end this conversation just like that.
He shook his head as he gave Myrtle a swift look.
“No, Myrtle… He needs to tell us. This is something huge and I can’t contain this anymore. He is acting like nothing is happening. He had to let it out. He had to make us understand.” Hector tried to reason out.
Myrtle simply let out a deep sigh as she understood what her husband was telling her.
She couldn’t blame him though.
And she also knew that deep inside her she wanted to know.
She is Hunter’s best friend. And it was just too lonely and painful to know that he couldn’t tell him everything now like he used to do. And she understood that.
After marrying her best friend’s brother even if she acknowledged it or not, there was already a gap between them. There was already something that they couldn’t tell each other.
And Leila… She is also so close to her. She considered her as her sister… a confidante… a girl best friend.
She couldn’t bare losing her, too.
Especially when it was about the Triad.
This is something that they couldn’t let it be.
They cared for the both of them.
Even if they have this huge misunderstanding or whatsoever about their relationship right now. They still cared.
The three of them stared at Hunter still waiting for him to say his side.
But everything is simply a mess.
“We broke up. She chose to marry that scumbag evil Triad leader. End of the story.” Hunter darkly stated as briefly as he could be.
And even though they have already anticipated that it might happen they still couldn’t help but to get shocked at his confirmation.
Hector smirked at him without humor.
“And you simply let her?” He mockingly said causing Myrtle, Hunter, and Butler Henry to look at him seriously.
Myrtle wanted to stop his husband’s words, but she knew why he was doing this.
So, she simply kept her silence.
And Butler Henry even though he wanted to say something, he knew that he was not in the position to do so.
“And what do you want me to do? Force her to me?” Hunter retorted back.
This time, he knew that he was getting angrier already.
But Hector didn’t back down.
He still looked at him like he was ridiculing his own brother which was adding salt to Hunter’s still fresh wound.
“So, you are going to respect her decision and let her do the most foolish decision she ever made in her entire life, that’s it?” Hector contemptuously stated pushing all his brother’s buttons.
And it seemed to be working.
“Whatever I do, you have nothing to say, Hector.” Hunter said dangerously.
But Hector didn’t even flinch even if it was already a tiny hint of a dangerous warning.
“Yeah, yeah. You are right. But…” Hector turned from his sardonic smile into a sinister one.
“What kind of love you have, really? Is that all that you can do? You always free the one you love without even fighting for it. That’s a lame choice, Hunter. And if you continue doing that, I promise to disown you as my brother.” Hector continued his words darkly.
Hunter pursed his lips as he clenched his hands into balled fists.
Butler Henry knew that anytime, his patience might cut and he had to be a mediator between these two brothers, which wasn’t new to him already.
“Because if you truly love Leila, you should fight… Bet everything… So, you will not regret anything in the end.” Hector finally commented.
But Hunter simply looked at him.
“Are you done?” He said as if he was kind of bored with his speech.
Hector grunted in frustration.
He let out a soft curse.
“I still have to water the plants I planted.” Hunter added seriously.
And without a word, he marched at the backdoor leading to the garden leaving them with confusion and annoyance.
“That brat! He is not my brother! Damn it!” Hector blurted out irritatedly.
If Myrtle was in different situation, she would have laughed at his husband’s reaction. It was as if he took all of his guts to tell him everything that he didn’t want to say and ended up being set aside.
However, just by looking at Hunter, she knew that somehow Hector had given him a hint that they would support him if he would still fight for his love for Leila.
And she was silently hoping that he would do it soon.
She let out a deep sigh as she tried to calm her husband’s blatant reaction.
***
Hunter let out a soft curse, as he discreetly went out of the mansion.
‘Damn that Hector! He is trying to blow my cover!’ He mentally stated.
Of course.
He wouldn’t simply sit down and let Leila be in that lair especially when it was the enemy who was trying to poison her mind.
Because he had already proven that whatever happens, this kind of love he had for Leila… Even if it gave him loneliness, confusion, and pain those gave balanced to the happiness, contentment, and trust he had for Leila.
Yes, she hurt him.
And there might be a huge chance that he was risking everything he had, but no matter what he does his heart only screamed for Leila.
So, he would follow his heart.
He will surely fight for his love.
Because Leila… Her safety is the top of his priority. Even if it means that she won’t reciprocate his love any longer, he would be loyal to her. He would still love her.
For always.
