Chapter 91
Heartbreak
***
‘L-Leila…’
Hunter was confused as his mind was fighting with his heart screaming in pain.
This was something that he had to settle aside for now.
He tried to calm his mind as well as his inner wolf from screaming that she betrayed him.
It wasn’t easy when all that was running in his mind was pure anger and betrayal. It wasn’t helping him when Tracker, his inner wolf, was also wanting to take over him.
He gritted his teeth as he clenched his hands into balled fists.
‘No… She couldn’t do this… She won’t join these people. She won’t join the Triad…’ He tried to reason out as he found himself waiting for the right time to get in.
This is the only chance that he got and he only have a lesser time before Hector discover what he had done.
He had to make sure to talk to Leila. He had to clear things with her.
However, he knew that this might be the end of everything between them. And if it did the least that he knew was the fact that he had done everything for her.
Even though this might shatter him to the core.

Meanwhile, in the Moon Howlers Pack…
“F*ck it!” Hector uttered in pure annoyance.
Myrtle stared at her worriedly.
He took a deep breath as he tried to calm himself down. He didn’t want his loving wife to feel so worried not in her condition right now.
However, he was just so torn.
He knew this might happen and he asked Butler Henry to look after Hunter. He knew that even though Butler Henry is more loyal to Hunter, he believed that he wouldn’t let him in danger.
But his stubborn and cunning brother still escaped.
It might be because he already knew how Butler Henry works. He had escaped from his tight security.
“I’m sorry… Just go back to bed, I just have to go somewhere.” He told Myrtle as he buttoned his shirt and went to her side.
She was still lying in bed and woke up when she heard him enter their room.
“W-What? Why? What happened? Where are you going?” She asked him one after the other while her voice was laced with so much concern.
He shook his head as he held her hands.
Hector didn’t want to tell any lies to his wife. However, he had no other choice. But Myrtle immediately shook her head and pressed her fingers in his hands that were holding as if she knew what he was thinking about.
“Is it about Hunter?” She pointed it out seriously.
Hector didn’t have to say it already.
She knew.
And he had no other choice but to tell her about it.
“He had gone to the Triad base. We have to go there. He is risking his life to this.” Hector explained in the verge of annoyance and worry.
Myrtle let out a deep sigh.
“He might have seen a light that he was staking everything he had.” Myrtle commented as she looked straight into his eyes.
Then, she nodded her head as she held his face with her right hand.
“Be careful…” She whispered with her words laced with so much concern.
Hector nodded his head and planted a soft kiss on her lips.
“I will…” He whispered under his breath.

A few minutes later…
Leila felt something different around her as she went towards her door.
Her forehead creased as she thought that the servant omegas who had given her dinner had already gone back to their duties.
“Wait up…” She said a bit irritated because the knocking just won’t stop.
She was ready to give her litany to whoever was knocking in her door when her breath was caught into the air.
“What the-”
A warm and huge hand covered her mouth as he held her waist and pulled her inside her room. He kicked the door shut and made sure to lock it from the inside.
Leila was dumbfounded as she smelled his familiar scent. Her heart instantly raced as it easily recognized who it was.
She blinked her eyes a few more times to make sure that she wasn’t hallucinating, or this wasn’t a pigment of her imagination.
‘Is it really true?’ She asked herself mentally bewildered.
But Silver growled inside her as if telling her that this is true.
She swallowed hard as she tried to stop herself from the longingness that immediately crept into her entire system.
This won’t do her any good.
She almost lost to his touch and it was just so lucky of her that Hunter was making sure that no one saw him enter her room.
Yes.
It was Hunter.
He was standing right in front of her.
She could feel that even her own heart could recognize every bit of him.
However, the pain and betrayal written in his eyes caught her off guard.
“What are you doing here?” Hunter fired that question that should be hers.
She looked at her, confused.
“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?” She retorted back.
But Hunter simply pursed his lips together.
This time, she had a short glimpse of the old Hunter the snobbish, mysterious, and cold Hunter, she first met.
“You are risking your life, Leila. You don’t know these people… They are the Triad! The rebels! What the heck are you doing here?” Hunter said seriously but she knew that he was already in the verge of panic and confusion.
Leila let out a deep sigh.
“I guess whatever I do now, you have no say about it. You and I are no longer together. And I believe that I am clear to you about that.” Leila told him directly without any trace of emotion in her voice or in her face.
Hunter felt like for the nth time, he felt his heart being broken once again.
“But I love you and-”
“And I don’t love you anymore…” Leila uttered those words as she felt the same pang of pain digging inside her heart.
She knew that this wasn’t true.
But…
She swallowed the lump in her throat hoping that she could still stop her tears from her eyes. She didn’t want Hunter to stay here.
Yes.
Because this place is truly dangerous.
She witnessed that from the time she arrived there and she had protection. No one could touch her. No one could hurt her.
And she didn’t want to think about the reason why.
But Hunter…
Leila swallowed hard as she tried to hide it from him.
Hunter… Staying here… He might be killed and she didn’t want that to happen.
She had to push him away.
“L-Leila…” Hunter called her as she turned her back at him.
However, he caught her hand.
She could feel the tingling sensation in her veins creeping into her… giving her warmth… soothing her worries and pains.
If they could just turn back the time. If they could just stay at the Sacred Village. If they could just be together.
But she knew that it would already be impossible.
“You have to go. You have no business here, Hunter. I am already engaged to be married.” She declared in between her gritting teeth.
Then, she gathered all her strength to face him as she removed his hand on her.
Hunter looked at her like she wasn’t the Leila that he used to love.
Pain and shock were certainly written in his eyes.
And she almost gave in to that and stop whatever madness she decided to do, as Silver told her about.
But she couldn’t. She had to tell Hunter about that. She didn’t want him to think that he could still pursue her.
They both have different paths to take now.
And maybe, this was the only thing that would stop him from coming to her.
She didn’t want that. She didn’t want to hurt him more. She is more focused about what happened to her father and nothing else. Then, she also wanted to be with her mother and brother.
That’s all.
This love that she had for Hunter… She couldn’t keep it anyway. She had to let go. She had to let him go.
They can’t be together and they could never be together.
Hunter smiled at her wearily.
It hurt her to see him like that. It was as if there was something in his smile that was causing her pain.
She didn’t know.
Was it because of hopelessness? Pain? Exhaustion?
She didn’t know.
And the more that she was trying to comprehend to it the more painful it was, not just for her but for the both of them.
“Okay, then. If that is what you want… But please listen to me about what really happened to your father.” Hunter tried to tell her but this time, Leila gave her a deadly glare.
That hit the spot of her rage and impatience.
It only proved to her that her decision was right.
That was the only thing that she didn’t want to hear right now.
And it was one of the things that the leader of this pack told her. Hunter and the Blacks would certainly twist the truth that was what he told her. And look at it now it was really true.
She harshly shook her head.
“What else do you want to tell me? That it is not your parents that killed my father?” Leila sardonically stated.
Then, she sardonically shook her head like it was the most hilarious thing she ever heard.
“I don’t believe you, Hunter. You don’t have to tell me something ridiculous just to save your family and to save whatever break up this was. Someone also witnessed that happening.” She said in pure anger.
Then, she painfully looked at him.
This time, she couldn’t stop herself from the emotions that kept on stirring inside her anymore.
She might have let him see her brokenness but then, she was surprised to see how broken he was, too.
It was as if this time, she had a lot of doubts already but she was just too stubborn and hurt to even think rationally.
“Stop all of this now, Hunter. You just have to stop… Please… I don’t want to see you again…” She finally said as she turned her back at him for the second time…
And maybe for the last time.
Tears immediately fell from her eyes as if they were in a race.
“O-Okay then…” She could hear the pain from his voice.
And it was breaking her to the core.
“B-But I hope that you see the truth soon even if it didn’t come from me anymore.” Hunter stated brokenly.
She bit her lower lip until she could already taste the steely taste from it.
“Maybe, this is the end, huh? But… But remember that I love you… Always, Leila… And loving you also means that I have to respect your decision. From now on, I… I will let you go.” Hunter confessed excruciatingly as she tried to stop her tears from falling from her eyes, but she just couldn’t.
Then, she heard Hunter took a deep breath.
“G-Goodbye… Leila.” He uttered painfully as sobs instantly escaped from her mouth when a few minutes later, she heard her door closed.
She held her chest as it was painfully beating for the only man she ever loved.
