Chapter 68
Believe
***
‘What the heck happened?’ Hunter couldn’t stop asking as his concern rocketed to the moon. He tried looking around hoping to see anything… any clue that could help him to find Leila.
But to no avail.
He couldn’t find anything until he was already exhausted and unable to think clearly. But he had to. He had to find Leila. But how?
Hunter let out a loud growl hoping that it could reach Leila. He was feeling so hopeless but he had to stay strong. He wouldn’t lose her definitely not this way.
He still has to find some ways a lot more ways for her. And giving up was not part of it.
For the second and third time, he let out a louder growl hoping and even thinking that it might make him think rationally. He was panting so hard as he looked around for the nth time.
There was still no sign of Leila. He looked above as his black snout tried to sniff her in the air, hoping that there might still be her scent left into the cold breeze… But there was none.
He bared his canines as his wolf felt so devastated and furious at the same time.
Then, he ran meteorically back at the pack’s community.
Perhaps, there were still ways and the main way is to go back and ask for help in finding Leila. He also had to ask the truth if he truly want to get her back in the pack.
And he had to make it fast. He had to. He might be beating a deadline already especially at trying to find her himself. He needed more hands for this more help in finding her.
Because right now, he knew… If something’s happened to Leila he would never be able to forgive himself. He would be lost forever.
He might have fallen in love already with his own childhood best friend, Myrtle. But he couldn’t believe that he could still be in love with Leila so in love that he knew this was deeper and more intense than the first one.
She is someone that he could spend the rest of his life with. She is his extreme and one true love. He doesn’t know what he could do if something bad happened to her.
And he shook his head at that.
He couldn’t even think about it and he didn’t want to think about it.
Hunter shifted back to his human form as he was panting so hard upon arriving at the pack’s ground.
Hector and Myrtle saw him immediately and walked towards him.
“Did you find her?” Myrtle asked worriedly.
But his expression already said it all. However, maybe, she was already hoping otherwise.
And so, he shook his head making her took a deep breath. She looked so worried. Well, he couldn’t blame her though. Myrtle is also close to Leila. And so did he he reflected hers. Perhaps, more.
But that’s the least of what he wanted to notice right now. He needed to look after Leila and fast. So, he stared at Hector.
“Where are they?” Hunter inquired seriously talking about their parents.
His brother clenched his jaw as he gave him a deadly glare. But he simply wouldn’t want to make an unnecessary fight with him right now. He wouldn’t waste his energy for him.
If he could he won’t.
But if he would insist like what he did a while back, then, he was left with no other choice.
He could also fight him and he knew that he wouldn’t an easy battle. But on the other hand, he wouldn’t back down, just like that.
And they both knew that.
They both were having some side to take to and no one would want to let each other pass… just like that. However, Hunter could easily let it go if Leila was on the line. And since she was, he had to let his bother go this time.
Hector gritted his teeth as his bared canines slightly showed. Hunter coldly looked at him like waiting for him to take the drastic move. But Myrtle got between them breaking their intense eye contact, as if she was trying to stop whatever silent war was about to happen.
“Stop it, you two…” She dangerously warned them and gave her husband a threatening glare.
The latter simply let out a deep sigh before pursing his lips together.
“They are inside the mansion, Hunter. But make sure to at least… please… make it a bit respectful… You know what I mean…” She seriously stated but all he could do was to nod his head at him.
He didn’t want to promise anything. He didn’t want to tell anything right now. All that he wanted to know is the truth.
Hunter walked swiftly towards the mansion and he instantly saw his parents in the receiving area. It was as if they were certainly waiting for him. He stopped his tracks and looked at them with his deep ocean blue eyes void with any emotions.
His father was standing in front of the window frame as he was looking at him stoically. While his mother was comfortably sitting on the single black couch while looking at him with pure concern in her light brown eyes.
“I want to cut this shortly. I still have to find Leila. I want to ask for some help from the pack that is after you tell me the truth about Leila’s claim.” Hunter stated direct to the point.
His father let out a deep sigh as he felt Hector and Myrtle’s presence behind him.
“Son…” His mother called him but she didn’t even say anything, which made him a bit annoyed.
Why did something like this happened?
There were a lot of things that he wanted to say but he had to focus on one thing. He had to focus on Leila.
“We didn’t know about her claims if that is what you want to ask. Whatever that she said a while ago, we didn’t know about it. But we know her father. Lindon Mercado. We surely know him.” His father said seriously then seriously looked at him, causing his heart beat escalated.
He swallowed hard.
“Then, what the heck happened? Why did she say those things? And how do you know his father? I know Leila, she won’t say that unless…” Hunter took a deep breath and clenched his jaw.
He both knew them Leila and his parents.
And he knew that they wouldn’t tell a lie not to this.
But who was telling the truth?
And what really happened?
Hera, his mother, cleared her throat and looked at her coldly.
“And we are also telling the truth, Son…” She said dangerously causing him to swallow the lump in his throat.
