“What the f*cking hell…” Hector commented darkly as they arrived near the border where the dead bodies were located.
He couldn’t believe that someone could do something as morbid as this.
He might say that it was something that a sane member of the any pack could do something like this. And if that’s the case, they should be very careful.
“We found these bodies when we changed our shifts, Master Hector.” One of the sentinel wolves guarding that spot reported seriously.
It seemed like whoever did this, they knew when they could go through the border.
Hunter gave Hector a meaningful glare. And it looked like they were thinking the same thing.
“We ordered you to make sure that you have tightened the security near the border, right? What happened?” Hector inquired darkly causing the sentinel wolf to swallow hard.
Hunter clenched his jaw.
It seemed like their people were just too cocky and complacent.
“I… T-The new sentinel wolves and hunters are still in training, Master Hector.” The man replied nervously causing Hector to grit his teeth.
He knew that if this continued, he might do something irrational.
“Lets him go… But let him go back to the pack for the meantime.” Hunter suggested coldly causing the two to look at him.
His face was void of any emotion as he glared at the sentinel wolf.
His lips slightly parted and nodded his head.
“You may go now…” Hector replied still slightly irritated.
The poor sentinel wolf immediately went away as he knew that the two men could easily wring his neck if they wanted to. Especially now that they have created a fatal blow for the pack.
If this news escalated to the other pack, this could create a huge problem for them.
“Damn it!” Hector uttered angrily as he fisted his hands and clenched his jaw.
He could feel his wolf at bay already and so did he. But they have to solve this once and for all.
“It seems like what Elder Howard said could be a possibility. Someone wants to mess with our pack. This is not a simple accident, but an intentional frontal attack wanting to caus trouble for us.” Hunter stated seriously.
Hector nodded his head in agreement.
“I think we have to prepare. Are your men ready for this?” Hector inquired curiously.
He looked at him like he had grown some horns in his neck.
“Of course. They are just waiting for my word. You know that we have spare if we want to.” Hunter replied coldly as they both talked to the secret betas they have discreetly.
However, before they could even talk more about what happened, the leader of the hunters came and politely told them that the elders from the council were asking them to go back.
“It looks like someone wants to stir a problem within, huh?” Hector commented, annoyed.
He agreed mentally.
How come the elders were asking them to go back?
“If this is about what happened, something is certainly off.” Hunter snide a remark as he slightly shook his head before they decided to go back to the pack.
They talked to the leader of each group, who were guarding the border in three shifts as well as the hunters who were also patrolling the area, making sure to triple the security of their territory.
“This isn’t enough… really.” Hector stated impatiently.
“Just deploy the betas.” He added seriously and walked back towards the community.
Hunter let out an inaudible sigh as he followed his brother. For the first time, he felt like he didn’t want to be in his shoes right now. This is just so troublesome for him. Way too troublesome and too dangerous.
Not to mention that the elders also have something hidden in their sleeves. And he knew that they have to be in control of this… Well, he hoped so.

“What is this meeting for?” Hector instantly inquired as thy arrived at the elder’s council meeting room.
Elders from various allied packs gathered in there and immediately glared at them as they arrived.
“It’s about what happened in your border. We heard the news.” Elder Bodie, the elder from the Nightwalker Pack, immediately fired them that question the very moment Hector took his seat.
Hunter, on the other hand, preferred to stay near the door standing, even though he had his own chair beside Hector and Elder Howard.
He mentally smirked.
It seemed like the old man was already fishing for some information.
Well, it wasn’t new to them already. Elder Bodie is a cunning and arrogant member of the elders’ council. They all knew that he was one of the few members of their allies that was just waiting for them to go down and take over.
However, they wouldn’t let him have his way.
“How did you know that? We just discovered about it and were about to tell you.” Hector retorted back causing the elder to purse his lips together. It defined the upside-down horseshoe-like mustache on his face. It suited him anyway.
It seemed like he had been caught by his own tongue.
He smirked inwardly at that.
Elder Morrigan cleared his throat to lighten the tension brewing up in the air.
“So, how is the investigation going?” Elder Morrigan, the elder from the Middle Riverstone Pack and Myrtle’s grandfather, inquired worriedly.
Hector took a deep breath as he leaned against his chair.
“It is still under investigation. Don’t worry about it. This is just some sort of accident or prank made by the newbie rogues near the border. We caught some and have reported it already, so you don’t have to worry about it. Besides, our parents will be arriving soon.” Hector explained darkly causing everyone to keep their silence.
They have to say that in order to make sure that they lessen the trouble that the other packs might cause. They didn’t want to ruin alliance to anyone of the elders in the meeting room even to those who were just too cunning and waiting for the right time.
Like what they said, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
“If that’s the case, then is there anymore agenda that you would like to raise?” Elder Howard inquired seriously as he looked at everyone around.
“Maybe we can just find another time to talk about the upcoming hunting game for the new hunters.” It was Elder Vile from the Angst Wood Pack who suggested it.
“We all know that you are busy with the investigation. Just tell us if you need help.” He added seriously before he stood up.
The other elders followed.
Elder Howard nodded his head.
“Thank you, Elder Vile.” He gratefully stated and the wise elder simply nodded his head.
“Don’t mention it. Anyway, I have to go. I have to attend something in our pack.” He finally said before going out of the room.
Elder Bodie took a deep breath and followed without a word. He looked like he didn’t like what happened in the meeting. Well, he was the least of their concerns now.
“I also have to go. Just tell me if you need anything.” Elder Morrigan said as he gave them a small smile.
“Is Myrtle in your house right now? I want to see her before I go.” He stated as he looked at Hector.
The latter nodded his head.
“Yes, Elder Morrigan. Let me accompany you-”
But the good elder simply wave his hand in the air as if dismissing him.
“Oh, come on… You don’t have to. I can still handle myself, young man. Stay here and it seems like your grandfather wants to talk to you about your investigations first.” Elder Morrigan refused calmly.
However, Elder Howard finally stood up.
“It’s fine. We can all go back. We can just talk about it later. Besides, their parents will soon arrive. They can just talk about it then. But I am hoping that you won’t mention it to Myrtle.” Elder Howard told him and even reminded him.
Elder Morrigan nodded his head in agreement.
“Yes… Good thing you reminded me that… Let’s go, then.” Elder Morrigan finally agreed.
Hunter and Hector looked at each other and let out a deep sigh.
At last, the unnecessary meeting was already done.
But before Hunter could follow the three men, a familiar masked man appeared in front of him.
He looked at him seriously as they went inside the meeting room. It is better that way.
“Any news?” He inquired darkly.
But the man shook his head.
“Negative, Master Hunter. It seems like whoever is behind this, they are just too careful… and powerful.” He replied instantly.
Hunter nodded his head as his mind in deep thoughts.
“By the way, I have to lead the group. Be discreet in your mission, Butler Henry…” He finally called him as the latter nodded his head.
“Come out after a minute.” He added as he went out of the room as if nothing happened.
It looked like they were back to square one again. And he didn’t like any of it… a bit. He gritted his teeth at that.
