“It’s been seven months.” The doctor said to Mrs Evelyn who looked anything but happy.
“I don’t care how long it’s been,” She gritted, “I will not give up on my child.”
Mrs Evelyn lost a lot of weight over the past couple of months. Watching her daughter remain in a vegetative state nipped at her senses and as the days went by, all she lived for was the hope that she would one day stare at the eyes of her daughter.
“We understand your plight..” The doctor said but she was quick to shut him up.
“No, you do not! You have no idea what it means to watch your child lie in a vegetative state with nothing to do about it!” She yelled in his face. “I will not have you stand there and advise me to kill my child!”
Lucy was in the room, and she held Mrs Evelyn whose hand shook. “Please Calm down, mother. It’s okay.” She cooed, hoping to curb the implications of Mrs Evelyn’s anger.
After the accident seven months ago, Mrs Rivera had dedicated her every waking moment to tending to June and as a result, her health wasn’t at its best. So much so that her blood pressure skyrocketed and she was frail in health.
Lucy and Liam tried their best to get her out of the hospital and obtain proper care for her, all to no avail. Mrs Evelyn refused to be tended to, showing her stubborn nature as she religiously catered to June.
Mrs Evelyn believed that the heavens had punished her for all the cruel treatments she gave to her daughter by having her experience this agony. She believed that when she finally got her daughter back, it would help her value and treat her with the love she deserved.
She determined to remain by her daughter’s side throughout these hard times and be there when she finally opened her eyes. If she ever opened her eyes. Evelyn knocked the thought away from her mind as soon as it entered.
Her daughter would wake up. She had faith that her daughter would scale through this. June would be among the twenty percent of people who woke up from these sort of things.
She would keep that hope alive until the day she died.
“I understand. Please forgive me.” The doctor said with his head bowed.
He had hoped to give professional advise, and help the grieving family move forward with their lives but it seemed like he had crossed a boundary in so doing.
“Better,” Evelyn muttered and the doctor left. “You said you wanted to speak to me about something?” She asked Lucy after some time.
Lucy cleared her throat. “Yes, Mother.” She spoke uneasily. “Liam sent a message from North City.”
Evelyn’s eyes brightened. “Okay? Is there a problem?”
“Not at all,” Lucy said. “He wants to take June to North City for treatments.” She jumbled, unable to meet Mrs Evelyn’s eyes.
She revolted immediately. “We can’t take that chance.” Mrs Evelyn said. “Any little mistake and my daughter can slip off the dark end.” She shook her head. “I won’t stand for it. If there is anything he can do, any doctor whatsoever, he should bring them over.”
“My daughter is not leaving this hospital unless it’s with her legs.”
Lucy knew better than to argue. Over the past few months, Evelyn had shown just how determined and unchanging she could be when she decided on something. Especially things that pertained to June.
They had once again met a dead end.
Meanwhile, things with JL were moving smoothly. With June unable to function, Lucy took the bull by it’s horn and managed the company to an international standard. They were well on their way to becoming a billion dollar company.
She just wished June could wake up and witness the amount of success she had made out of JL. Everything she did was for her friend and boss who was lying in coma, uncertain of the future.
Other than the success of JL, Sharon’s case became public discourse. The media world discussed the situation of the innocent twin who was remanded in prison as asset to crime.
More people threw their views on the judgement they believed should be reviewed as the young lady had been an asset in unravelling the crimes of April Lontoc, who was yet to show any remorse for her crimes.
April who was in prison, serving her life sentence lost her mind. While in prison, she tormented her mates, stating how her life was not over and she would bounce back. She lived in an alternate reality where she believed everything would bounce back to her favour in the first few months.
When it didn’t, she lost her mind. Constantly muttering to herself, stating her crimes and how she would get out of confinement in no time. After extensive observation, she was selected to meet with a mental health professional outside prison.
The news was kept under wraps and it was soon time for April’s doctor’s appointment. April was placed in handcuffs while the police officers led her into the van.
“I am April Lontoc!” She yelled in their faces, keeping up to her ruse. “I will kill you all. You just wait! You will pay for treating me in this manner.”
Unknown to them, while in prison, April met with the wife of one of the deadliest mafioso in South City. April saved her from a gang up in the bathroom in the early hours of her release day and received a vow to get her out of prison.
While April worked her time in prison, she received word from the outside word, asking her to create a diversion which could bring her outside the prison grounds, and her men would be ready to retrieve her.
From then on, April pretended to be insane, acting out and being a terror to everyone and herself. As a result of her tantrums and fits, the authorities deemed her to be a danger to herself as well as others.
She was kept in a separate cell and now escorted out of the prison grounds for her first medical assessment. Which would prove to be her last. April was driven out of prison with an escort of heavily armed men and continued her act until they got to the middle of South City.
The van got to a diversion and suddenly, shots fired out of nowhere. The tyres went down and people ran for their lives. Masked gunmen emerged in their numbers, killed every policeman in sight and retrieved April.
As soon as she was retracted, a foam was placed over her nose, sending her to a dreamless sleep. A few hours later, she woke up to the soft feeling of fur under her.
It’s been a while since she slept in such comfort and luxury. “Welcome to my world, April Lontoc.” A young lady said to her and she blinked her eyes open.
“I was thinking, since your name brings a lot of fuss, we need another identity for you. What do you think about, Mario?”
