“Bring back that flash drive, and I’ll help you recover the data for you.”
“No, I’ve already paid B7. Let’s not fuss over it,” Rosalind replied, wanting to steer the conversation away from the flash drive. Lately, she couldn’t quite figure out what was going on with Ulric. He often brought up difficult topics.
Sometimes, Rosalind even suspected that he knew something!
Ulric merely glanced at her and beckoned with his finger. “Come here.”
She obediently put down her laptop and walked over, snuggling into Ulric’s embrace.
“Are you catching a cold? Your voice sounds different.”
“Maybe, because of you,” he teased.
Rosalind pouted. “Mr. Walters, who always keeps his emotions in check, gets upset so easily now? I must be quite something.”
He chuckled softly, “You’ve always been quite something.”
“Thanks for the compliment.”
With a sudden pull of his arm, Ulric dragged her onto the bed.
Rosalind was startled and didn’t dare move. “Are you crazy? You just had your stitches removed, and there’s still blood!”
“Even right after surgery, I can still make you comfortable. What’s a little blood?”
Rosalind really wanted to kick him!
She thought Ulric was in the mood to do that thing again, but this time, he didn’t try to undress her. He simply held her close, savoring her scent.
His breath tickled her neck as they were so close.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, sensing something off about him.
“Nothing. Just let me hold you for a while.”
Rosalind frowned and touched his forehead.
“Ulric, you have a fever!”
No wonder his voice sounded so strange. He was clearly trying to tough it out.
“Don’t make a fuss. I’ll feel better if I hold you for a bit.”
“I’m not medicine,” Rosalind said worriedly. She feared he might develop other complications since a fever could be a sign of internal or wound infection. “Let go of me. I’ll call Dr. Stewart to check on you.”
Hearing that name made Ulric frown slightly.
“Don’t let her come.”
“And now you’re picky about doctors?” Rosalind thought it was his cleanliness issue acting up again, not wanting a female doctor to treat him. “You need to get your fever down first. Dr. Stewart performed your surgery. She knows your condition best! A fever can be serious. If everything checks out fine afterward, I’ll be relieved too.”
“It’s not that serious. Just get me some fever medicine. It’s just a cold.”
Ulric nestled against her neck, seeming drowsy as his eyelids drooped.
Unable to persuade him otherwise, Rosalind decided to push him gently herself.
“Then let go of me so I can get the medicine.”
“If I let go, you’ll definitely go find her.”
He didn’t want to see Rebecca.
“Ulric, since when did you become so stubborn? You’re the patient. She’s the doctor!”
Ulric loosened his grip and turned his back to Rosalind.
She thought he was giving her permission to find Rebecca, so she got up from the bed.
Behind her, Ulric suddenly spoke in a muffled tone, “My dad wants me to marry her.”
“Who?” Rosalind asked instinctively.
“Who else?”
Rosalind recalled what Caesar had mentioned before. It wasn’t all that surprising now.
Pressing her lips together, she began to understand why Ulric didn’t want Rebecca around.
“Oh.”
Ulric suddenly turned and sat up on the bed. “Oh? Is it all you have to say?”
