Olivia’s POV:
I looked at Micah, who was on my lap, and sighed for a second time. She was still scared, even when I was right there with her.
After I had woken up feeling very well-rested and at peace, I took a shower and helped Micah prepare too because she was already awake before me.
When Alec had asked me to assist him last night, he later changed his mind and told me to go back. Dinner was awkward because, for some reason, no one was talking. Micah slept peacefully and woke up okay, but after a bath, she was acting up.
“Honey, are you okay?” I asked softly.
Before she could respond, the door opened and Alec walked in.
“Morning,” I greeted with a smile on my face, then frowned when Micah buried her face in my chest.
I wrapped my arms around her and looked at Alec, who was standing in front of me.
“I’m so sorry about her. She is obviously shy,” I lied.
He leaned in and kissed my cheek softly, then pulled back.
“Good morning,” he greeted.
“Good morning,” I answered.
“Today, I’m leaving,” he said, then sat down next to me.
“I have to go back home, and I’m hoping wholeheartedly that you will come with me,” he said.
“Of course, I want to be with you,” I answered happily, then tensed when Micah spoke in a cracked voice.
“No,” she whispered.
“Honey, what seems to be the problem?” I asked in concern.
She shook her head, then remained silent.
“Should we start off now?” he asked as I looked at him with wide eyes.
“Right now?” I asked, raising my voice.
“Yes, right now. You have no luggage here, and you can’t go back to your house. Also, I really do have to return in time,” he answered as I frowned.
He leaned in and kissed my cheek again, this time slightly pulling back and whispering into my ear.
“Do you not want to be with me?” he asked huskily as I swallowed hard and shivered in response.
I tilted my head and looked at his face seriously.
“You know that I want to be with you, and that won’t change no matter what,” I answered honestly.
He smiled, then got to his feet and cleared his throat.
“Then let’s get going, please,” he said as I hesitated but stood up.
We walked out of the room and went outside, where we found Debby standing near his car.
We approached her and stood in front of her.
“It’s a shame to see you leave so soon,” she said softly as I smiled at her to cheer her up.
“I’ll come and visit you any chance I get,” I answered.
“That would be nice,” she said and then looked at Alec.
“As for you, I expect you to keep your mouth shut about my third chance. I don’t want your brother or mother thinking badly of me. He is in my past, but I expect him to respect my future,” she said, then rubbed my arm with her hand before walking past us.
Alec walked to the back door and opened it for me.
I got in carefully and gave him a calm smile when he raised his brow, as if to ask me if I was okay.
He shut the door and went on to get into the driver’s seat.
He looked at me in the rearview mirror for a second, then started the car and drove away.
My attention was on Micah, who was still not talking and hiding her face from me.
“Are you worried about her?” he asked.
“Yes, she’s usually talkative, but now she’s refusing to talk or look at me,” I answered honestly.
“I think she’s scared of me because of how I took her with me after seeing her father being arrested,” he said softly.
“I figured,” I answered, then sighed heavily.
“I just hope with time she will warm up to you,” I said honestly, then looked at the rearview mirror as our eyes met.
“You know, I hope so too because I adore children,” he answered, then focused his gaze on the road.
“I know. Since you talked about children yesterday, I had a feeling you were somehow telling the truth with that said joke,” I said in a low tone.
“That was no joke, Olivia. You would make a great mother,” he answered as I shyly lowered my gaze.
“Alec, can you tell me a little bit about your homeland?” I asked.
“Mm, let’s see. Our territory is like a village, well not a typical one. The place is surrounded by nature, and we live under the rule of a Chief. The chief is called Alpha, and his right hand Beta,” he said as I frowned.
“Wait, aren’t those like werewolf ranks?” I asked seriously.
He chuckled softly, making me look at him.
“You seem to know a lot about werewolves. Impressive,” he said as I giggled.
“Just a little. I love wolves, so I learned a few things about them,” I answered proudly.
“I see. Well, that’s what we call our people. We are called a pack village. Because of that, we took on ranks of werewolves because it’s fun and more of a tradition since our forefathers,” he said, then drove to the side of the road and parked the car there.
“Our pack, or should I say village, is kind and very welcoming. My stepbrother is a good leader, and I always do my best to take good care of things as his right hand. When you join me and stand by my side, you will receive a certain form of respect because of my rank, but that doesn’t mean that everyone will accept you for who you are. The fact that you are from another country will make them a little uncomfortable. I’m telling you all this because I hope you will fit in with time and be happy with me. But if there ever comes a time you want to go back home, I promise that I’ll take you back,” he said as I felt my heart flutter.
He really was a caring and honest man.
“I will do my best. What I won’t like is having murderous gazes from your ex-lovers,” I answered honestly as he laughed, then started the car.
“Hell no, that won’t happen,” he said as he drove off.
To be honest, I was getting nervous just thinking about how his family would welcome me. But again, if it meant I could stand by his side, then I was going to do my best to get along with them.
