Debby’s POV:
I was walking back and forth in the living room, feeling very uneasy. Something was definitely wrong somewhere, but sadly, I couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
When Alec walked in, I quickly rushed to his side.
“Is she asleep?” I asked.
“Who?” he asked back.
“The little girl,” I answered.
“Yes, and Olivia is by her side,” he responded.
“That’s good. Now then, finish telling me the story. You didn’t tell me everything. What really happened when you approached Jay, that human scum?” I asked seriously.
He sighed, then walked outside of the house, and I quickly followed behind.
“I did what all mates would do,” he answered while approaching his car.
“And what is that?” I asked.
“Taking care of him,” he answered.
“What do you mean by that? Was he disrespectful to you?” I asked, concerned.
“Yes, he was,” he answered and then grabbed and opened the trunk of his car.
The first thing I picked up was the strong scent of blood.
When I looked at the unconscious body in the trunk, I realized it was Jay, and something in me changed.
Instead of feeling happy that he was dealt with by Alec, I felt very sad for him. My wolf, too, felt bothered by the fact that he was unconscious and badly injured.
“I am still debating what to do with him. Maybe I should just tie something heavy around his foot and drown him in the ocean,” he said lazily as I quickly grabbed his hand, then let it go.
“I’m sorry, but no,” I exclaimed.
“What?” he asked in a whisper, while looking around.
“You can’t kill him,” I answered seriously.
“Then do you expect me to take him with me to the pack, or perhaps send him back to his house?” he asked.
“No, that would be a big problem. Why don’t you give him to me?” I answered, surprising him.
I, too, was shocked by my own suggestion, but I didn’t want Jay dead. I actually wanted him to be okay and safe.
“What are you planning on doing to him?” he asked.
“I don’t know, to be honest. All I know is that I want to keep him with me,” I answered honestly.
“Debby, do you feel this need to clean off his blood and help him recover?” he asked seriously.
When I chose to keep quiet, he went on to speak.
“Have you ever heard of third chance mates?” he asked.
I widened my eyes, then shook my head violently.
No, there was no way I could have a third chance mate. It was rare to meet them, and I knew very little about third chance mates.
“Those who got to have a third chance mate,” they said, “when they met them, it felt different. When you meet your first and second chance mate, the bond is very strong. But with the third chance mate, their wolves couldn’t fully tell on their first encounter if they were or not. It wasn’t until they spent more time with them that it became clear. They also said that there were no such things as tingles between them when touching or that magical bond. A few said that when their partners didn’t reciprocate their feelings after knowing what they were, then the bond was easily broken off,” he said as I frowned deeply.
The only bond that wasn’t supposed to be that strong was supposed to be his. Because humans only got to feel a connection to their mates but had no idea what it was until they were told. There was always a chance that they could reject what we were, and only when marked would the bond grow stronger.
“Look, I’m not saying that he is your third chance mate, but if you are really feeling that way towards him, then there is a possibility he might be,” he said.
“You will have to decide if you will accept him as your mate or not. For now, I’m going to take him to the garage behind the house and tie him up,” he said, then leaned in and grabbed Jay, lifting him in his arms and going with him behind the house.
I stood there, thinking hard about what to do.
That man was no different from Johnson. The way he treated Olivia was so bad. It was as if he was obsessed with her!
If he truly was my third chance mate, then I was going to reject him because I couldn’t be with someone like him.
“Moon goddess, is this my punishment for doing Damon wrong? Going through all that with Johnson wasn’t enough for you? Is that why you sent this bastard my way?” I asked sadly.
My wolf wasn’t happy about everything, but I could feel how willing she was to give him a chance.
“You must be insane to want such a man,” I said seriously, then shut the boot and went to the garage.
Was she forgetting that we were pregnant with another man’s child? Not everyone was very accepting of that.
“Do you have to tie him that tight?” I asked once I had walked in.
“Yes,” he answered simply, then took a few steps back.
“I’ll be leaving tomorrow, so make sure you keep Jay quiet and busy,” he said as I rolled my eyes.
Not only were his feet and hands tied tightly, but there was also a cloth in his mouth and a blindfold covering his eyes.
“When is he likely to wake up?” I asked.
“My guess is tomorrow. But you know how people are different; he might wake up even today,” he answered and then turned and walked away.
I moved closer and carefully looked at his bleeding face.
“Help him,” my wolf demanded.
“How?” I asked softly.
“Clean him up,” she answered.
I didn’t like her suggestion, but I too felt like doing it. I walked out of the garage and went into the house.
“Alec!” I called loudly into the passage.
“What is it?” His voice came from the room ahead.
“Is there a first aid kit in here?” I asked.
A few seconds of silence went by, then I heard the sound of a door opening.
“Why exactly do you want it?” he asked and then looked at me.
“You know what I need it for,” I answered seriously.
“It’s in the garage, just look around,” he answered, then shifted his gaze behind me when I heard footsteps approaching me.
“Is anyone hurt?” Olivia asked in concern.
“No, I just stepped on a nail a minute ago and I want to tend to it,” I answered quickly.
“Do you need any help?” she asked.
“Yes, I do,” Alec answered.
I turned and looked at Olivia, then left without a word.
Olivia was standing, looking at him in a daze like it was some kind of freaking show. I understood that she wanted to be with him and that he was doing his best to stop her from finding out anything.
