Olivia’s POV:
Hearing about Alec’s past and how he had suffered made me feel sad, but at the same time, closer to him. He looked so cool that I couldn’t imagine him going through all that.
“I can’t believe he went through hell,” I said huskily, then wiped away my tears.
“I know, but you don’t have to cry about it. He is fine. And now that he has met you, I know he will be happier,” she answered.
“Thank you, Debby, for sharing the story,” I whispered.
“Of course,” she answered, then frowned when we heard the sound of a car outside the house.
She stood up and walked out of the living room, and I followed behind.
When we went outside, I smiled in relief seeing Alec stepping out of the car unharmed. He went to open the passenger’s seat and leaned in.
“Olivia, come here,” he said loudly.
I quickly rushed to his side.
“Yes,” I answered.
“Look,” he whispered, and then stepped back as I slowly moved closer, looking inside.
I gasped and quickly got in, grabbing Micah and moving her onto my lap.
She was sobbing silently, and she looked very terrified.
“What happened? Did Jay raise his hand to her?” I asked, raising my voice furiously.
“No, she is scared of me,” he answered in a low tone.
I wanted to ask him what went on on that side but chose to first calm Micah down. I got out of the car with her in my arms and went into the house, going straight into the bedroom I had woken up in.
I moved to the bed, and I was about to put her down when she screamed loudly and held onto me.
“No, Mama, no!”
“It’s alright, baby. I’m here. No one will hurt you,” I said at the top of my voice, trying to comfort her. Then I moved onto the bed with her, wrapping my arms around her body.
As I rocked her back and forth, I began singing a lullaby to calm her down. A few minutes went by and her breathing slowed down. I wasn’t sure if she was asleep, but all that mattered to me was that she was no longer crying.
“Hey,” Alec whispered softly when he stood at the entrance of the door.
“I’ll be right with you. I’m just waiting for her to fall asleep,” I answered.
“She’s already asleep,” he said.
I slowly moved her and carefully put her beside me, then looked at her face. Even though she was asleep, she looked restless.
I leaned in and gave her a kiss on her forehead, then carefully got off the bed.
I moved the side of the covers and covered her slowly.
When I turned, I held in my voice. Alec was standing right in front of me, looking down at me seriously without a word.
I was getting nervous with each passing second, and I had to lower my gaze to the ground. When he took another step closer, my heart picked up.
“Why are you avoiding my gaze?” he asked.
I swallowed hard, then looked into his eyes. My cheeks were heating up, and I felt captivated by the way he was looking back at me.
When he slowly leaned in, I closed my eyes tightly.
“Is he going to kiss me?” I asked myself silently as I waited. Although a part of me wanted to pull back, I wanted to know how it felt to have his lips placed against mine.
I tensed when his breath brushed against my ear.
“You would make a great mother,” he whispered into my ear as I opened my eyes.
“To our children,” he said huskily as my heart fluttered and my throat became dry.
He nibbled on my earlobe, sending a shiver throughout my entire body and causing my nipples to harden.
What was he saying? Did he want me to be his wife?
He took a step back and looked at me seriously, while I gazed back at him in a daze.
“I’m just kidding,” he said, then smiled warmly as I snapped out of my daze.
Just kidding! Why?
I was dying to ask, but I decided not to.
“Did you perhaps think, ‘Why not?'” he asked, as I gasped loudly.
“How did he know? Is that what you’re thinking right now?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
I looked at him with widened eyes.
What the hell! How could he read my mind? Was he perhaps a mind reader?
“No, I’m not. It’s just that you don’t know how to hide your emotions on your face. Whatever you think appears clearly on your face without a word. I think that’s the reason why that bastard enjoyed teasing you,” he said.
“Alec, what actually happened on that side?” I asked, concerned.
“I’ll answer that, but first, follow me,” he said, then walked out.
I followed him and entered another bedroom.
“Please take a seat,” he said.
I moved to the couch, which was opposite the bedside, and sat down.
“I went to your place to talk to Jay, and he welcomed me,” he said, then moved closer.
“The guy got arrogant and aggressive with me, so I called the cops on him and had them arrest him. I didn’t want to tell you this in front of Micah, but he did start yelling and threatening to kill me in front of the girl when I told him I had feelings for you,” he said as I felt weak.
I was in shock but not in disbelief because Jay used to raise his voice with me in front of Micah, and he threatened to take her away a few times, not caring that she was watching us.
If he was arrested by the police, then it meant they knew Alec in some way and they were in his favor because it made no sense that they would get Jay unless he was loud enough to disturb the neighbors. They wouldn’t even leave Micah in Alec’s care when he was a stranger.
Alec also had no bruises to prove that he was injured in any way unless he was hiding them under his shirt.
“By any chance, do you know the cops or are you friends with any of them?” I asked seriously.
“Yes, a few of the cops are friends with my stepbrother. I didn’t want to mention this earlier because it was too soon, but my stepbrother has his own companies and territory. Many people know him, both in our country and abroad. He is usually referred to by his traditional name and has bodyguards protecting his place. I would like to share more details later, but for now, I want you to stay by Micah’s side so that she doesn’t freak out when she wakes up,” he said, and I nodded while placing my hand on my chest.
So that’s how he managed to have the cops arrest Jay. Could he be a millionaire? Maybe even a billionaire? No, obviously not, but his stepbrother certainly sounded like one.
“Thank you for bringing Micah to me safely,” I said softly as I stood up.
“Of course, she means a lot to me since she is your niece,” he replied, causing my cheeks to heat up once again.
He had a way with words, and every time he said something like that, I found myself wishing that we could become proper lovers.
