Alec’s POV:
I stood at Olivia’s door, contemplating whether to knock or just kick the door open in a second.
“Knock,” came my wolf’s order.
Reluctantly, I raised my hand and knocked twice. When I heard heavy footsteps approaching, I prepared myself for Jay’s reaction and interaction.
“Finally, where did you go, Olivia?” a man asked as he opened the door.
When he looked at me and then around, I couldn’t hold in my chuckle.
My imagination of Jay was that of a man my height and close to my build, but now, looking down at him, I felt like laughing.
“Jay?” I asked seriously.
“Yes, and you are?” he asked back with a frown.
“A friend of Olivia’s,” I answered.
He rubbed his hand against his forehead, then dropped it.
“Look, dude, I have no time for such games. I know how this goes, okay? You saw her at the beach because she usually goes there, and you took a liking to her. You learned her name through my little girl and perhaps followed her to her place. Since you were attracted to her, you made up a story and came here to see if she was the one who could open the door for you, right?” he asked as I raised a brow.
His tone was rather disrespectful, and my wolf hated it because no one went unpunished except the Alpha when they talked like that to us.
“Kill him,” my wolf urged.
“You can’t even answer? I got it right? Look, pal, I have handled a few men like you, so I know what your game is. That woman has no friends or any family besides me, and she is my woman. She is married to me, and I can’t hand her over to anyone,” he said as I bit my lip to hold in my growl, then clenched my hands into fists.
“Kill him already,” my wolf growled angrily.
“I’m being honest, Jay, and I would like to relay a message to you which she has asked me to deliver. So do invite me in,” I said with a smile.
“Piss off, dude, before I call the cops on your ass,” he spat. My wolf took over in a second and raised our hand, punching his face hard, sending him flying to the floor in the passage.
He walked in, pushing the door hard, almost breaking it, and stood in front of the passed out, bloody Jay, looking down on him with a smirk.
He was about to lean in and finish him off when I yelled.
“You can’t kill him, he is Micah’s father!”
“Fuck,” he groaned loudly, then gave me back control when we saw Micah looking at us.
I was about to move when she quickly ran into a room. I went down on one knee and looked at Jay. His nose looked like it was broken and it was bleeding badly. A trail of blood was coming from his busted mouth, and that only made Luther happy.
“Damn it, Luther, you could have held back even if it’s just a little!” I said angrily, then looked ahead when I heard Micah’s low cry.
“He called our mate his woman,” he growled as I stood upright.
“I know that, but he is human. You didn’t have to use your strength on him. What if he dies?” I asked.
“Even better,” he responded without a care.
I walked into the dining room and looked at the huge table in front of me. Despite the tablecloth being spread around it, I could hear Micah’s movement and loud heartbeat underneath. She was obviously holding her voice in.
“Micah, I won’t hurt you. You can come out,” I said softly while I moved closer and grabbed the cloth, slowly lifting it up and looking under.
She had both of her hands covering her mouth as tears continued to run down her face.
I wanted to remind her that she and I had met at the beach when I remembered how I had scared her when I deflated the ball.
“Hey sweetie, I won’t hurt you, I promise. I just want to talk to you, so come out,” I whispered.
When she shook her head and moved back, my wolf took partial control and growled loudly at her, making the place shake.
“Come out now, little girl, or I’ll hurt you!” he threatened as she quickly did.
“Damn it, Luther!” I spat loudly, then pushed him back and slowly went down to my knees in front of her. She was trembling badly.
“Your mother is waiting for you, so please let’s go to her,” I said, then extended my hand.
She raised her hand and placed it on mine.
For a little girl, she was sure to act differently. Any normal kid her age would not only scream for help, but they would also run upstairs to hide in the closet. Yet she wasn’t doing that, and she was trying to stay calm like some adult would.
I lifted her in my arms, then walked back to the passage where Jay was. Once I was in front of him, I leaned forward and grabbed his hand.
I walked out of the house while dragging him. I cared less if anyone could see us or not. The neighbors were further away, but that didn’t mean there weren’t people right outside the compound moving.
When I reached my car, I opened the back seat and carefully put Micah in, who was still sobbing silently.
I shut the door, then dragged Jay behind my car, opening the boot with one of my hands.
Before lifting Jay to put him into the boot, I looked at Micah to make sure she was still.
“Olivia is going to freak out,” I told Luther silently as I lifted Jay up and put him into the boot.
“She has to understand,” he answered when I shut the trunk and went to open the front door of my car.
“No, she won’t,” I said, then got in and closed the door behind me.
I looked at the rearview mirror only to meet Micah’s eyes. She quickly moved her hands to cover her mouth.
“Olivia will definitely hate me for this,” I whispered, then started the car and drove out of the compound.
Every few minutes, I looked in the rearview mirror to check on Micah, who was terrified.
I much preferred to talk than attack him because that’s what I had planned. But when he got cocky and arrogant, Luther snapped.
Should I have just taken Jay and left Micah behind so that I could come back with Olivia? No, the girl looked intelligent. It was possible that she could have called the cops or asked for help from one of the neighbors.
But then again, my act was something she wasn’t going to ever forget. She would forever think that I had killed her father, unless there was a way of making Jay convince her that my actions were an act.
“There is a way, just break all of his teeth or cut one of his fingers,” Luther answered.
I ignored him and focused on the road because I knew that was exactly what he was planning to do, and there was no way I could ever talk him out of it.
