Xiao’s POV:
I sat next to Mika, observing the warriors who were happily drinking and chatting, while some she-wolves were serving the men snacks and food. Some were busy dancing and singing to lighten up the mood. The whole place was lively, and it felt so good to be a part of it.
“The alpha is kind of late,” Alec said, then looked at his wristwatch seriously.
Most she-wolves were looking at him indecently, yet he seemed to pay no attention to them, although I was sure he could feel it.
“Speak of the devil,” one warrior said when the door to the pack hall opened and he walked in with Luna Sherry by his side.
The room instantly went quiet as our gaze fixed on him.
Every warrior and she-wolf had a shocked expression on their faces, and I couldn’t understand why, even the Beta.
Was it because he was late? I asked myself thoughtfully.
“Sorry I’m late,” he apologized, then stood in front of us with a smile.
“What, did I kill the fun?” he asked calmly.
“No, it’s just that we are all curious to know what the occasion is,” Alec answered.
What did he mean by that when he knew that it was the pack’s initiation party for me?
“Are you and Luna Sherry perhaps going out by chance?” a she-wolf asked softly.
“What? No, we are here for the party,” he answered.
“Forgive me for saying this, Alpha, but then why are you dressed like that?” Alec asked.
He looked at himself from head to toe, then back at him.
What was wrong with the way he was dressed? Because to me, he looked nice. He was wearing dark blue jeans and a light blue shirt. His hair was nicely done back, and the mask that covered the side of his face was a black leather one.
“Does it look that bad?” he asked.
“No,” the warriors answered together.
“No, Alpha, you look amazing. Did our Luna dress you up?” Alec asked as they all looked at Luna Sherry, who was shyly avoiding their gazes.
“Is it that obvious?” he asked with a smile.
“Yes,” the she-wolves answered loudly as I laughed softly.
Everything that was playing in front of me was like a movie, and I couldn’t stop myself from laughing.
“You flatter me,” Luna Sherry said.
“You guys, today is not about me or the love of my life. Today is about our new pack members, Bevin and his second chance mate Mika. Can the lovely couple please come forward, wherever you are?” he said, then wrapped his arm around Luna Sherry’s waist.
I stood up from the couch with Mika, then headed to them. When we stood in front of them, I linked my hand with hers.
I was beginning to feel very nervous, having all the warriors look at me.
“Your little girl is happily playing with Maggie in your bedroom, so be at ease,” Luna Sherry whispered to us.
I nodded, then looked at Alec, who approached us with a golden jar and cup in his hand. He stood next to the Alpha and faced me.
“As you all know, everyone who is welcomed into our pack has to go through a one- or two-month trial. But a few of you showed so much potential that I cut down the months to a week or a few days, and that’s exactly what happened to Bevin. Not only was he honest with me and my mate, but he also showed us how skilled he is,” he said as I felt my heart ache. I wasn’t totally honest with him.
He was going to be my leader, yet I was afraid of telling him the whole truth that I had told Luna Sherry.
“He shared with us a few techniques from his previous pack, and we became comfortable around him. That’s why I decided to make him a part of us as soon as possible. So as this ceremony takes place, I ask you all to keep your peace and make sure to shelter him with respect and kindness, as you all do to each other,” he announced, then looked at Alec and nodded.
Alec poured some liquid into the cup that had a very nice scent, then gave it to the Alpha.
“Before you take this cup, I ask you to kneel down,” he instructed.
I hesitated but slowly did.
“No then, we will begin the vow. But before that, I will ask you two questions. Have you been entirely honest with me? And will your loyalty forever lie with me and the coming Alpha?” he asked as I felt bad.
I looked seriously at Luna Sherry, who was staring down at me with a fake smile.
She frowned, then nodded at me.
“Yes,” I forced out the words.
“What’s your surname?” Alec asked in a whisper.
“Branxe,” I answered.
“Then repeat this vow after me,” the Alpha said.
“I, Bevin Branxe, pledge in front of my pack to serve my Alpha with utmost respect and loyalty,” he said as I repeated the words with a heavy heart.
“To fight and protect my pack members as my own family,” he said as I repeated the words in a low tone.
“To be truthful and kind as they are to me,” he said as I kept quiet, refusing to say the words.
“To be truthful and kind as they are to me,” he repeated the words.
“Alpha, I’m sorry,” I whispered softly.
“Bevin,” Mika called in warning.
“I did not tell you the whole….”
His cell phone rang, cutting my sentence short.
“Ignore it, please continue,” he ordered.
“As I was saying, Alpha, I really want to be a part of your pack so much, but I haven’t…”
The cell phone rang again.
He sighed softly, then pulled it out of his pocket and looked at it.
“Why not use a damn landline?” he muttered to himself, then answered the call.
“Alpha Damon speaking.”
He kept quiet, then frowned. When his expression turned cold, I felt a shiver spread throughout my entire body.
He removed the phone from his ear, then looked at me with a murderous gaze.
“You, Mika, Alec, and Sherry, come into my fucking office now!” he exclaimed, then dropped the cup on the ground and walked out of the room, leaving everyone questioning what was going on.
“This has never happened before,” Alec whispered with a shocked expression on his face, then looked at me.
“I hope you were truly honest with us, because if you did lie to him, he will have your fucking life. By that, I mean he will rip your heart out,” he said, then walked out of the room as Sherry followed behind.
I was trembling in fear because I knew that I was in trouble.
