As she spoke, Jaquan’s eyes flickered, seemingly recalling the journey they had taken.
“But the plan to bring Holly back to the Ellison family succeeded. You changed her name, her appearance, and even her habits. I believe many of those habits were learned from me.”
Knowing about the past connection between Nelson and Maevelyn, Jaquan had devised this scheme.
Callie tilted her head back. “Let me think, when did you know I was Maevelyn? It must have been earlier than I did.”
Jaquan leaned back in the leather seat, squinting at her in the light.
She now looked like a withered rose.
“Not only did you know, but Marilyn knew as well. I still don’t understand why she agreed to this plan, but it must have benefited her in some way, right?”
Red wine dripped from Callie’s hair. Her gaze was sensitive and sincere, as if her heart had shattered completely.
“Jaquan, you let Holly take over my life and pretended to like me. You’re even more hypocritical than Nelson.”
Thinking back to their times of shared hardship, when he was also deceiving her, Callie felt disgusted.
Half of Jaquan’s face was shrouded in shadow, his expression unreadable.
After a while, he spoke. “Did he ever risk his life for you? In Anbusea, to get you out, I endured Owen’s torture. That was out of my genuine feelings.”
“But at the same time, Holly had returned to the Ellison family! Your plan never stopped!” Callie looked at him in disappointment. “Did you ever consider stopping it?”
Any guilt Callie had felt towards him vanished.
Jaquan straightened slightly, moving closer to her alcohol-scented body. His cold eyes met hers as he said, “We have no way back.”
Callie stiffened. “Jaquan, you have to let me go.”
He didn’t respond. Standing up, he walked past her towards the door. Callie called out several times, but he didn’t stop.
She got up and ran after him, grabbing his arm and shouting, “I know where Cyrus is! You have to let me go!”
Hearing this, Jaquan stopped and glanced at her. “Nelson wouldn’t let you know.”
Callie was struck but remained firm. “I overheard when he was making arrangements. I really know.”
He scrutinized her. “Where?”
“If you want my information, you should give something in return. Release Mollie.”
Jaquan gave her a long look and sneered. “If I let her go, what will I use to threaten you? Callie, that’s not how business works.”
With that, he grabbed Callie’s hand and dragged her out.
Callie was forced to walk forward.
Outside, a group of people waited, including those from the private room earlier. Mollie lay on the ground, barely conscious.
Scarface approached Jaquan to report. Callie took the opportunity to shake off his hand and crouched beside Mollie. “I’m sorry I got you involved.”
Mollie opened her eyes with difficulty and still had the strength to comfort her. “I’ve been at Club Paradise for many years; I can handle this much alcohol.”
Callie’s heart felt like it was being stabbed. At this moment, she couldn’t think of a better solution.
“Get a doctor to check on her. We don’t want any deaths,” Jaquan ordered coldly.
Scarface responded, “And Miss Marsh…”
Jaquan didn’t answer directly but walked over to the woman from earlier. She had already sensed something was wrong and was trembling with fear.
