OLIVIA
My gaze flickered at Kate as she signaled me not to speak immediately. She wanted me to carefully select my utterances to avoid shooting myself in the leg.
I understood Kate’s signal but I was clueless. I didn’t even know what to say in my defense. Cyril had already exposed my secret.
Even in his drunk state, he was able to interrogate me as though he was a cop. For some minutes, I stood there glaring at Cyril like a dummy.
I waited for someone to come to my rescue and my prayers were answered the moment Kate stepped in and asked Cyril to leave.
“You must be a fool to believe that I am gonna walk out that door,” Cyril refused.
He grabbed a wooden stool and threatened to hit me with it. “I asked you a question, Olivia. Why wasn’t I invited to the party? What does it have to be you alone? You seem to have forgotten that I am the CEO of Penhurst company.”
“I know, right?
Nobody’s disputing that. But can you please drop the stool? You are gonna hurt someone,” I pleaded with Cyril.
Since he was drunk, he was more likely to do something stupid.
He’s more dangerous in his right senses, let alone when he is drunk. And I wasn’t ready to get myself involved in a heated argument with him.
“Cyril, I think that’s enough. We need to get you home. You’re drunk and might hurt yourself in the process,” Adrian begged Cyril. He grabbed Cyril’s hand to walk him out of the room.
Right in our very eyes, Cyril pushed him away and threw the wooden stool at Adrian. Luckily, Adrian was able to dodge the stool.
I watched in awe.
I couldn’t see where Cyril got the power to push Adrian like that.
Growing up, I was made to understand that people officially become weak when they’re drunk. But after witnessing what Cyril displayed in front of me, I was forced to have a second thought.
“I am not leaving this place without my wife. She must come with me,” Cyril violently demanded.
He attempted to grab me but I ignored him. “I am not coming with you. I don’t feel safe with you. I rather stay here, where my happiness lies,”
I rushed to hide at the back of Adrian for safety. That way, it would be difficult for Cyril to come after me. Even if he attempts that, Adrian would be there to stop him.
“I see that you chose to find peace in the arms of another man, don’t you? Where’s your dignity and pride as a woman? I am highly disappointed in you,” Cyril spat at the ground to spite me.
“Coming from someone that cheated on his wife? You also plan to divorce your wife to be with your side chick. Shouldn’t you be ashamed, too?”. Adrian defended me. He became my knight in shining armor. He assured me that I had nothing to worry about
Ignoring Adrian, Cyril stepped forward to grab my arm and pull me to his side, but Adrian stepped in between us and punched Cyril so hard In the face.
As Cyril falls to the ground, he starts to sober up. “What have I gotten myself into? I should have stayed back home. Rene told me about the fight she had with Olivia. I thought I could help her avenge it. Now I just suffered the worst humiliation of my life,”
The shocking confession from Cyril took my mind back to the fight that ensued between Kate and Rene
To think that I stopped Kate from hitting Rene so hard, yet Rene had the guts to lie that she fought with me. What a lady!
“I am pretty sure Rene must be proud of you, isn’t it? I also wanna believe that she made you drunk to enable you to defend her to her satisfaction, didn’t she? Now tell me. Where’s Rene now?” I asked Cyril.
I stood in front of him to speak with confidence because I knew he was never gonna hurt me. He was too weak to lift his hands.
“Get away from him.” Adrian pulled me aside. He was scared that Cyril could still be capable of hurting me even in his pathetic situation.
I spat at Cyril’s face to compound his woes. I knew that he wouldn’t recall anything the moment he regained his sanity.
Moments later, Some hefty men pulled up in the room all dressed in black. From their appearance, I knew they were the security from the party.
“Boss, you sent for us, sir.” One of them stood in front of Adrian. I had no idea that Adrian asked them to come. I didn’t even see him bring out his phone, let alone request for that security.
“Yes, I did.
You see that man over there?” Adrian pointed at Cyril.
“I want him to be thrown out of my mansion. If he refuses, you know what to do,”
“The security obliged without question. Cyril tried to struggle, but it didn’t last long-he eventually became weak.
“This ain’t over yet! You’re gonna be sorry for yourself because I will be waiting for you,” he bragged as he was bundled away like a criminal.
“Are you okay?” Adrian asked me.
“Am I okay? If only it were that easy.” I chuckled. “What do you think? You witnessed what just happened.”
I went back to bed, unsure of what I wanted to do with my life anymore. My head kept pounding hard. I was afraid it might explode soon.
“You need to stay calm, Olivia. Cyril is gone now. You have absolutely nothing to worry about anymore,” Adrian assured me.
I stood up in anger. “Are you fucking kidding me? Did you hear what he said? That son of a bitch threatened me-that it wasn’t over yet. You don’t expect me to fold my arms and watch him plot a comeback against me, do you?”
