OLIVIA
“What do you want me to say? I can’t believe that you’re gonna take the words of a drunkard seriously. Come on, Olivia. You’re way too smart for this,” Adrian said, putting in so much effort to make me believe that Cyril shouldn’t be taken seriously.
I didn’t allow myself to be fooled by Adrian’s mischief. He wasn’t different from Cyril anyway. What did I expect from someone who had his eyes on me?
Of course, he would do everything to paint himself as the good guy. Without being told, I knew he was excited to see Cyril behave that way in front of the public. To Adrian, Cyril’s display had just given me the perfect reason to file for a divorce.
“Kate, please go confirm if everyone has left the party. I can’t afford to go out there after everything that happened. I can’t stand the public right now,” I pleaded with Kate, and she obeyed immediately.
“Wait a minute, Olivia. What exactly is going on right now? Are you leaving already? Aren’t you gonna spend the night in my mansion? It feels safer for you. Going out there won’t be a good idea. The press will surely be keeping tabs on you. Besides, I’ve got enough room for you and Kate to rest your heads,” Adrian pleaded, shocked to discover my intention to leave.
“No thanks, Adrian.
As much as I enjoy your benevolence, I am afraid I will have to decline your offer. Walking out of your mansion first thing tomorrow morning will be a topic for the blogs and I am not ready for that. I’ve had enough lately. I am not a staunch advocate for controversy, either.” I declined Adrian’s request without a second thought.
It didn’t take me too long to come up with the decision. The shock on Adrian’s face best explained how disappointed he was. He never saw that coming.
“What am I gonna do to make you pass the night at my house? Remember the threat from Cyril; he ain’t done with you yet. Do you want him to hurt you? Please, I care a lot about you. Just listen to me.” Adrian pleaded with me as though his life depended on it.
He played the victim card to make me feel guilty and question my decision. Unknown to him, I was miles ahead of him to have read his thoughts
“Wait a minute!
What just happened here? Have I suddenly developed a hearing disability? I thought you assured me that the threat from Cyril wasn’t real. Why the sudden change of decision?”
I countered Adrian’s words. He was slowly becoming the worse version of Cyril.
Kate finally returned from the assignment I sent her. Although she hadn’t given me feedback yet, her presence gave me a reason to be hopeful again.
“So how did it go?
Please tell me everybody has gone.
Don’t raise my hopes high. I don’t wanna suffer another heartbreak please.” I asked Kate with every bit of seriousness in me.
That was the only thing I wanted to hear from Kate and nothing else. The slightest negativity might shatter me. Curiosity had taken the best part of me. I could barely even concentrate anymore.
“The living room is empty like a graveyard. As I speak to you, aside from the domestic staff, we are the only ones left in this mansion,” Kate gave a detailed explanation. She did exactly what I expected of her.
I held my chest. “What a relief,”
It wasn’t my birthday, yet I was the happiest person on Earth. Getting into the news for the negative reason wasn’t something I had envisaged.
“Book the nearest hotel for tonight. We are gonna pass the night there,” I ordered Kate.
I grabbed my bag and left for the living room knowing that everyone was gone. Kate and Adrian followed me immediately.
Adrian was trying to come closer to me but I ignored him. I never wanted to set my eyes on him. At that moment, his presence was already becoming infuriating to me.
While I demonstrated my rage towards Adrian, I also put the blame on myself. I figured that none of that would have happened If I had shunned Adrian’s invitation and stayed back home.
At the same time, it would have equally become a disaster to have turned down Adrian’s invitation, considering the relationship between us.
“Ma’am, the hotel room has been successfully booked. I had to book two separate rooms for us.” Kate disclosed.
“Good! Can we go now?” I tossed off the sofa. My legs were already begging to walk out of Adrian’s mansion.
“Are you gonna walk away like that without saying goodbye? Not even a hug from you? Have I suddenly become that irritating? Where did I go wrong?” Adrian wept.
Looking at his face, I developed this sudden pity for him. Over the last few months, I’ve caused him so much pain that he never deserved
“Adrian, not now please.
I am sorry,” I told Adrian and walked away.
I had a thousand reasons not to leave immediately. Unfortunately, I had no choice. The tension was getting high for me.
There was no assurance that I was not gonna have sex with Adrian when the going gets tough.
Twice, I spent the night at Adrian’s mansion and we had mad sex. It turned out to be the best sex I ever had since my adult age.
The hotel was quite a lot more than what I expected. it was indeed worth the hype and every dime spent
I finally found a place aside from my room to call my home. Going back to the mansion wasn’t the best idea for me. Neither is passing the night at Adrian’s mansion a good idea either
“Do you want me to get you anything, ma’am?” Kate asked as soon as we arrived at the hotel.
“Nothing for now. Just drop the laptop on the bed for me. I need to catch some sleep. My head’s banging right now,” I told Kate.
I wasn’t done giving orders when my phone rang.
I hissed and looked away. I wasn’t even bothered to check who was calling. I wasn’t in the mood to speak to anyone.
“Ma’am, I think you might wanna answer this call,” Kate advised. She sounded serious, as though the call was extremely important.
Seeing Kate’s expression, I knew I needed to answer immediately.
I grabbed my phone from her-only to discover it was Cyril’s grandmother calling.
My heart stopped. It couldn’t be a coincidence that she was calling just hours after my altercation with her grandson.
