Yusuf did not answer.
She had to put on the headphones. The sound was crackling, but after a moment it became clear. It was Charlotte-
“Nelson, the fifteenth is a big day. How about setting the wedding date for the fifteenth?” Her voice was sweet.
After a moment, Nelson’s somewhat distant voice came through, “Um, you decide.”
Callie instinctively clenched her hand.
Charlotte pressed on, “Look, isn’t this wedding dress beautiful? If you think it’s nice, I’ll have it made.”
Nelson seemed to glance at it, “It suits you well.”
Charlotte laughed happily and hugged his neck from behind. “I hope my father’s wishes didn’t trouble you. I’ve always looked forward to being your wife, ever since I was a child.”
Nelson chuckled softly, “Marrying Maeve is my good fortune. I should have given you more time to prepare, but the situation doesn’t wait. I hope you understand.”
Charlotte hugged him tighter and nervously asked, “Nelson, did you have a wedding when you married her?”
This question brought a brief silence between them.
Callie felt she could hardly breathe. She and Nelson had only registered their marriage and never had a wedding. Her grandfather had mentioned it, and so had he, but it was always postponed due to their busy schedules.
Now, was he going to give Charlotte a wedding?
Of course, the daughter of the Ellison family deserved such treatment.
“No,” Nelson’s voice was low.
“Then, does that make me special?” Charlotte asked boldly.
“Naturally.”
Callie took off the headphones and exhaled deeply to avoid suffocating.
Yusuf stood by, watching her without speaking.
After a while, she looked up and asked, “What does Jamir mean by this?”
“Jamir said that Miss Marsh must face the consequences of her own actions,” Yusuf repeated. “This computer is connected to the eavesdropping device. You can hear Nelson’s every move. No one has touched it. Jamir gave it to you, hoping you would be reassured.”
Callie frowned. She hadn’t expected Jamir to give her the computer.
From the moment the eavesdropping device was installed, she thought he would control everything. Now he handed it all over to her?
“What game is Jamir playing now?”
Yusuf shook his head, “He cares about you.”
Callie stared at him for a moment before deciding to close the computer and take it with her. “Thank him for me.”
Yusuf followed her.
“Why are you still following me?”
“Jamir said to ensure you get home safely.”
Callie wanted to say there was no need now, but recalling her earlier fright, she didn’t object. “Thank you.”
Coincidentally, as Callie reached the door, Eliza was standing nearby with documents in hand, clearly waiting for some time.
Seeing Callie, Eliza quickly approached. “Callie.” Then she noticed Yusuf behind her and was surprised, lowering her voice, “Where did you go?”
Callie followed her gaze to Yusuf.
“I had some things to take care of. What’s up?”
“These are the documents piled up at the studio. I brought them for you to sign.”
“Didn’t I say to leave everything to Belinda when I’m not around?”
Eliza nodded, “These are things Belinda couldn’t handle and asked me to bring them over.”
Callie understood and led her inside, leaving Yusuf outside. Eliza couldn’t help but ask, “Why is Yusuf with you?”
Callie signed the documents calmly, “Eliza, did you break up with Jade?”
