She woke up groggy and unrested.
In her dreams, many faces appeared-Marilyn’s, Cyrus’s, and Nelson’s. They tormented her nerves, and the pain kept reflecting back onto her.
“Ah!” Callie woke up with a start.
She looked at the vibrating phone beside her, feeling a psychological shadow. The caller ID showed it was Jamir.
She took a moment, got up to pour herself some water, and answered the call, “What’s up?”
There was a moment of silence on the other end before a voice asked, “Your voice sounds off. Just woke up?”
Callie glanced at the time; it was five in the afternoon. She denied it, “No.”
“Just got word that Cyrus is missing.”
Callie closed her eyes, wanting to say she knew this news earlier than him but feigned ignorance, “How did he go missing?”
“He was taken away last night, whereabouts unknown,” Jamir’s tone was probing, “You didn’t know?”
“Jaquan must be going crazy,” Callie responded with a cold laugh.
Jamir didn’t speak for a while. Then he said, “It’ll take me some time to get back to Ylosea. You need to go out and visit a place.”
After hanging up, he sent her an address. It was in the office building where they had met last time, his office in Ylosea.
Callie got ready and left. The place was close enough to walk. As she walked, she felt someone watching her. Every time she turned around, no one was there.
She turned a corner and hid at the entrance of an alley. After waiting for a long time, a man indeed followed her quietly. He looked like someone trained.
He couldn’t find Callie and quickly left.
Callie breathed a sigh of relief and continued walking.
At this critical moment, she couldn’t determine whose people were following her.
After shaking off the tail, Callie relaxed and walked confidently on the road. She didn’t notice a black Santana speeding towards her from a distance, aiming straight at her.
“Screech!”
The vehicle’s sudden brake was piercing, startling Callie. She turned around to see a white car blocking the Santana in front of her. Both cars were very close to her.
If it weren’t for the white car, the Santana might have hit her.
Callie’s pupils dilated.
Seeing its failure, the Santana quickly turned around and left.
She was still in shock.
The window of the white car rolled down, revealing a familiar face, “Get in.”
“Mollie?” Callie was surprised and got in. “What are you doing here?”
“Here on business, happened to see you,” Mollie frowned, “What’s going on? If it weren’t for me, that car could have killed you.”
Thinking about it made Callie equally frightened, “In my current situation, I don’t even know who wants to harm me.”
Mollie sighed, “Any progress?”
Callie didn’t know how to describe it, “Not really. By the way, can you do me a favor?”
Mollie listened attentively.
After hearing everything, she smiled, “You want me to do research for your competitor.”
Callie gave a wry smile, “I can’t go back to Sky Pavilion anymore, but I need to get that information. Jaquan probably doesn’t know I took it yet.”
Mollie understood, “Wait for my news.”
Callie watched her drive away before entering the office building. She asked Yusuf for an elevator card and entered Jamir’s office.
His office was very tidy with almost no items.
Yusuf guided her to open the laptop on the desk and handed her a pair of headphones, “Jamir’s instructions.”
Callie frowned, “What’s this?”
