Hayden’s Pov.
The game was tomorrow, which meant practice today was intense. I had been practicing for close to two hours when the last bell for class
ended. I walked over to the end of the field, taking a seat on the floor for a quick rest.
My mind drifted of to yesterday’s dinner, I’m so happy my mom likes Bree. I had watched them interact with each other if not for the different in their similarities, you would think they were mother and daughter.
My dad, on the other hand, still hasn’t told him yet about Bree and me, but I knew for a fact that he wasn’t going to accept the relationship. All he ever cares about is the prestige of the family, honour, and dignity. Which meant, according to him, I needed to be with someone of the same class as ours, which is why he keeps pushing me to be with Sophie.
Her dad owned a wide range of hotels, just like we do, and my dad was planning on purchasing one of their hotels, and now he plans on using me to get what he wants. I sigh, taking a sip of the water in my hand. I decided to think of Bree; she was the only one who managed to put a smile on my face just by thinking of her.
I closed the cap of the water bottle, bringing out my phone to text Bree, but before I could type in the message, I felt a presence stand behind me. I turned around, my eyes trailing to black heels, moving up to a very short skirt and up to a short crop top, stopping at Sophie’s caked face.
The strong smell of her perfume hit my nose, making me sneeze repeatedly. I stood up, moving away a little bit from her.
My eyes harden. ” What do you want Sophie ” I asked annoyance in my voice.
“I missed you, babe.” She whined, taking a step forward while I moved back, avoiding any contact from her.
“It’s been over for us for close to two years, Sophie’s. When will it get into your thick skull of yours that I don’t like you, not even a tiny bit?” I whispered a shout at her, my hands clenched tightly in a fist.
“Don’t tell me you still think you have a chance with Bree.” She raised a questioning eyebrow at me. I looked around to make sure Bree or the girls were not around.
“It’s not your business what happens between Bree and me, so back off.” I growled at her, getting tired of her presence.
A smirk graced her face as she looked at me like she had just figured something out. “I see you haven’t told her yet. Poor Bree will be so heartbroken when she finds out the secret you have been keeping from her.”
When she saw my startled expression on my face, the smirk on her face even grew. “I did try to warn her, but she is just as stubborn as you.”
“You better keep your mouth shut.” I threatened, glaring at her.
She smiled sickeningly sweetly, which churned something in my stomach. “Don’t worry, I don’t plan on it. I want to see her face when she finds out I won instead of her.”
“You haven’t won anything yet, Sophie; my heart will always belong to Bree, and for her, I will find a way to get out of this mess.”
She smiles wickedly, walking closer to me. Her manicured hand rested on my chest. “I would love to see you try, though I doubt it would ever work. In case you are forgetting, your dad is by my side.”
I grabbed her hand on my chest, roughly pushing it away. “My dad isn’t by your side; you know very well why he wants us to be together.” I spat, pissed.
“Yeah, I do. But I couldn’t care less if he was using me as long as I had you. He could take whatever hotel he wants from my dad..” She replied nonchalantly, staring at her manicured finger without any care of the world.
Like always, she was just a spoilt little brat. Who gets everything she wants since her dad and brother are ready to spoil her and give her whatever she whines for? I scoffed, trying to control myself before I ended up doing something I regretted.
“How long do you plan on whining to your dad and Derek?”
“As long as they give me everything I need, and that includes you. I want you, and I will have you, by nook or by crook. Whatever way it is, it depends on you, boo.”
I turned to I looked at the field, and my eyes spotted Bree and the girls sitting at the bench watching Sophie and me. I instantly panicked. I shoved Sophie out of the way, not expecting her to stumble and nearly fall. Thank God, she was able to catch her footing.
I focused more on Bree. How long has she been watching the two of us? I hope she doesn’t have the wrong impression. I don’t know what I would do if I ever lost her; I don’t think I would be sane again.
I rushed over to where she sat, nervous. She looked behind her, clearly staring at Sophie, but it was a brief moment before she returned her gaze back to me.
“I hope you have a reasonable explanation for that.” Maddie growled as Sofie dragged her away to give us a little privacy.
I ran his hands through my face, taking in a deep breath. “Bree, I know what it looks like, but it’s not what you think. She had….”
“I trust you.” Bree said, cutting me off. A look of relief washed over me, and I smiled.
“Thank you, babe. I will try to keep away from her, but that girl just appears out of the blue.” I’m a little pissed.
“She is persistent.” She laughed.
“Tell me something I don’t know.” I smiled. I had that look again, wishing I could tell her everything, but I knew I couldn’t. Not yet, not until I’m able to fix it.
I slowly moved close to her, cupping her cheek with both hands. “I know you must have been pissed seeing us together; thank you for trusting me.” I look intently into her eyes.
She placed both hands on mine with a charming smile on her face. “I know you won’t do anything to hurt me. At least not intentionally.”
I pulled her into a hug, my arms wrapping around her small body. I rested my chin on top of her head, inhaling the wonderful smell of her vanilla scent. I gently pulled away after a while because I knew I had to go back to practice before the coach lost his cool.
“Let’s hang out at my place after practice.” I asked her, and she smiled, nodding her head. I quickly pecked her cheek, running back into the field.

“What’s the colour of the gown you are wearing for homecoming?”
“You still haven’t gotten a suit for homecoming yet,” she asked, baffled.
We had gotten to my place an hour ago, and my mom was so delighted to see Bree again. They spent up to thirty minutes talking to each other like they hadn’t seen each other yesterday. I watched them amused while they chatted amongst themselves.
My mom wasn’t ready to let her go; I had to practically drag Bree upstairs with me, leaving my mom pouting like a child. When we got to the room, we settled on my bed, and a maid brought up some snacks and ice tea for us.
I had tried talking to Bree some more about what had happened in the field today, but she waved me off, refusing to talk about it. I decided not to bring it up again, switching the subject to homecoming. I still need to get a suit.
“I wanted to know the colour of your gown before I got a suit.” I explained, and she nodded.
She stared into space, lost in thought. Something seems to have been troubling her for some time, and I still don’t understand why she wouldn’t tell me what it is.
“Bree,” I called out to her, and she turned to stare at me. “What’s going on if it isn’t about seeing Sophie and me? Then what is it? I know there is something wrong.” I calmly asked, holding her hand.
“There is nothing wrong; what makes you think something is wrong?” She rushed out nervously.
“You keep spacing out, and you are more quiet than usual, which is so unlike you. So tell me, what is going on?”
She sighed, avoiding eye contact with me. She fiddled with her hand. “I lied when I said I hadn’t told my parents about us.” she gulped. “My mom was over the moon, but my dad.”
“What about your dad?” I tried not to let my nervousness show.
“He is being stubborn; I don’t know why he won’t let me date.” She said she was pissed and hurt. It looked like she was about to cry any moment from now on.
I rolled to my side, and Bree did the same. I cupped her cheek, using my thumb to caress her cheek. “I think your dad is just looking out for you; you are a baby girl. If I were the one, I wouldn’t let my daughter go out with anyone until she was forty.” I joked, making her show me those beautiful smiles of hers.
“Don’t worry about your dad, babe; I will do my best to prove to you that I deserve you and won’t ever hurt you because I love you, Bree.”
She smiled more, placing her hand on my cheeks as well. “Thank you.”
We looked at each other in silence. Her breath became a little heavy when my attention shifted to her lips. I moved my head, leaning closer to her. I captured her soft plump lips in mine; our lips moved slowly and passionately against each other, wanting to enjoy every moment of it.
I moved my hand from her cheek to the back of her head as the kiss became more rough and intense. I swiped my tongue over her bottom lip, asking for entrance, which she gladly granted. I plunge my tongue inside her mouth, enjoying the taste of her.
My hand really dragged down her body teasingly, resting at the curve of her waist. Pulling her closer to me, loving our close proximity. Her hand grabbed a hold of my chest, clenching onto me. I could feel the excitement start to grow underneath my pants, poking through the fabric, begging to be free.
I flipped her over so that she was on top, and she slowly grinded on me, just to stop abruptly. I gave her a questionable look, wondering why she stopped. She got off me, slowly biting her lips.
“Your mom is at home; I don’t want her walking in on us,” she explained.
A flash of disappointment crossed my face, and she pecked my lips. “Don’t worry, I will make it up to you.”
