Rex’s POV.
“Are you insane? Why would Elena want to attend the banquet with me?” I scowled as I looked at Clark.
“There’s nothing bad about trying. Who knows, she might be interested.” He said in defense as he wore a broad smile on his face.
“Nah, no way, Clark. I know Elena, she can be stubborn.” I said as I rolled my eyes. “She hates me and you know that, so trust me, it’s not working.” I sighed as I walked into my room.
“The black outfit would look great on you.” Clark mumbled as he looked at the black shirt that I haven’t worn since I came here.
“Tonight will be a special one and you know it, Rex.” Clark said in an assuring tone as he walked into the room. “You just have to stop overthinking. I feel Alice is right. Elena can’t settle for just anyone. Five years away from the pack and she remained single. So why would she want to love someone now?” He asked me.
I exhaled sharply as I looked at the black shirt. It did nothing but to bring back old memories of when things were still perfect in my life.
“Yeah, go on.” He said as he stood close to me now. “Six years ago, Elena Toussaint went to the most expensive boutique and got you that shirt. She knew you love black. A black shirt, black trouser, black jacket and coat and then, an overcoat.” He said as he looked at me as I took it out of my wardrobe.
“You know, it still happens to be one of your most expensive collections in your wardrobe. You really need Elena back in your life.” He teased as he looked at me.
I rolled my eyes as I looked away. “I’m not ready for your teasing, okay? We have a mystery man who happens to know about Kingsley and not just that, happens to be attending the banquet tonight.” I sneered as I dropped the clothes on the bed as I walked out of the room.
“One thing is left?” He said as he picked up my phone from the table.
“Tell me you weren’t thinking I was going to carry Elena along tonight?” I whined as I looked at him exhaustively.
“Come on, Rex. You just have to do this and who knows? You might end up winning her over when she sees you in this outfit. All I know is, she still loves you but then, she is still hurting and wouldn’t want to go through it again, Rex. You have to make her know that she is everything you need in your life.” Clark shrugged as he walked down to where I stood.
“Go ahead, Rex. It’s simple!!” He said with a smile on his face.
“Hello, Elena. I would love it if you accompany me to the Bohen’s pack house for a banquet.” He said as he maintained his broad smile. “It’s that easy, Rex.” He muttered before stretching his hand to give me my phone.
I had no other option than to take the phone as I called her line. The first and second call came back unanswered.
“Come on, just give it a last try.” Clark said as he chuckled softly. “Who knows? She might be away.” He said.
The thought of her being away only took my mind back to her and Collins, my supervisor who I had placed in charge of the bar which was located at the beach.
I groaned before dialing her number again and this time around, I heard a tender voice.
“Hello?”
Tears swelled up in my eyes as I remembered that voice. It was Kiana’s voice.
I felt my wolf yipping in joy. I couldn’t remember the last time I saw them, talk less of speaking with them or getting them their favorite chocolate.
“Hello?” She said again and I smiled broadly.
“Hello, love?” I responded this time around.
“Love?” She gasped out.
“What did I tell you about picking mummy’s call?” I heard Elena’s voice in the background and before I could say another word, she had taken the phone from Kiana.
“Now, follow Aunty. Marie. And don’t stress her out. Shower, eat and do your assignments when you get home.” She said as she kissed Kiana.
“Good day, Rex.” She muttered coldly and I couldn’t help but imagine the long face she was currently wearing.
“Good day, Elena.” I responded as I forced out a smile as I looked at Clark who was currently holding back his laughter.
I tilted my lips as I exhaled lightly. “I was invited for a party at the Bohen’s pack house and I would love you to come along.” I muttered.
“But…”
“And… it’s not a request but an order from me as your boss.” I quickly interrupted her. “You can come with your best friend, Marie, if you wish to.” I said before ending the call.
He screamed at the top of his voice as he looked at me. “At least, it won’t be a boring night. So, I’ll let you face your mystery caller while I spend some time with Marie. You know we haven’t really gotten the time to know ourselves better. There’s always something to distract us.” Clark said excitedly as he hugged me tightly.
I struggled out of his tight hug as I exhaled sharply. “Do you want to suffocate me?” I snapped as I rolled my eyes. “You are not even sure she will come and you are already celebrating. Are you for real?” I scowled as I walked back inside my room.
“Come on, you don’t have to be dramatic.” Clark followed me closely as he wouldn’t give up. “I could go pick them up if you don’t mind.” He said suggestively as he smiled broadly.
“We will talk some other time. For now, I’m tired.” I said as I held his shoulder as we walked out of my room and I quickly returned back to my room as I shut my room door.
