“What did they say?”
Jadden looked at Seth, who was sitting behind his desk. He seemed to be wondering what they should discuss next. Matthieu’s issue had been resolved, but now it came down to the Idris Council. Jadden could confirm that after Seth read the summons for himself and all the beings involved in the Supreme Alpha’s downfall.
Seth has enough evidence to appear at their hearing. He had kept the evidence very neatly, and perhaps it was time for the Beta to know about it. He smiled wryly as he looked at Jadden, who frowned until his eyebrows came closer together.
“We have a hearing in two weeks. Me, the wolves, Edith, and, of course, Eva. You can rest easy; we have enough evidence to bring them down,” Seth replied as he propped up his chin in thought.
“But what about Matthieu’s remaining supporters?”
“I have proof of the Monomachia terms between me and Matthieu. They cannot deny it!”
“How did you do that?”
“Before going to the altar, I visited the witches’ black market. I bought an ‘eavesdropping slug’ there.”
Seth opened his desk drawer. He took out a small glass box from inside the drawer. Jadden saw a black, ash-striped slug walking very slowly.
“This thing is used by witches to eavesdrop on the conversations of anyone they want. Matthieu’s warriors followed their leader’s folly. They did not check my body. I hid this slug in my hair. I admit they have unique and good items. They also sell handcuffs mixed with monkshoods. You know, that’s what held me captive at the altar.”
“Bloody Hell!”
After that, Jadden did not ask Seth any more questions. He was just helping the Alpha organise the preparations for the meeting for the werewolf higher-ups. Jadden was tasked with sorting out information about pack leaders who supported Matthieu. Seth wanted a peaceful negotiation before he pulled out his final weapon.
Seth is on a mission to restore the honour of the McKirby family after the leadership of all packs in the world was handed over to his father as his grandfather’s rightful next in line. His grandfather’s struggle to raise the Red Crescent Moon must be continued by Seth.
Now the state of the pack is better from the threat of werewolves like Matthieu, although it is possible that there will be other rebels who threaten the position of Supreme Alpha if Christian has achieved that position.
“I’m done, Alpha. I’ll put the file here; I have to accompany Claire; she has severe nausea.”
“Did you check on Ashley?” asked Seth, who paused his activities for a while.
“I did, but the nausea still persists. I don’t know; maybe it’s because she’s pregnant with three pups,” Jadden replied as he massaged his forehead.
Seth chuckled. He remembered when he experienced something similar to Jadden. Seeing Edith, who kept vomiting, Seth was very concerned about Edith at that time.
“So, when is Claire due to give birth?” Seth continued.
“It’s estimated to be in a week. I hope it’s right, considering we have to attend the trial in two weeks. How will the trial go?”
“I don’t know either. From what I’ve heard, werewolf trials are rare. The last time was about the previous Supreme Alpha, who was a Lycan. You must know about that case too. Mostly, they organise witch and vampire trials.”

“Excuse me, can I sit here?”
Edith broke Alexandra’s reverie. Alexandra allowed Edith to sit beside her by shifting her body. Her gaze was straight ahead, as the twilight sun was half visible on the western horizon.
Edith lifted baby Julie from her pram and sat her tiny body on her lap. Baby Julie looked enthusiastic as Edith sat facing Alexandra. Her tiny hands almost touched Alexandra’s belly. Edith wanted to be careful, so she gently pulled her daughter’s arm away and distracted the tiny baby with the toys in the pram.
“Sorry, Julie is always so enthusiastic.”
“That’s okay. Is your daughter a hybrid too?” Alexandra’s attention now falls on Julie.
“She’s a tribrid. I gave birth to her when I was already a vampire.”
Alexandra’s face changed drastically. An expression of shock adorned her cold face. Her eyes continued to stare at Julie without even blinking. After a while of looking at Julie, Alexandra finally opened her voice and said, “Times have changed.”
“We went through a lot. Even back then, I didn’t know that I was half Veela. I only found out after becoming the Alpha’s imprint.”
“We Lycans consider ourselves superior to werewolves. Our pure blood allows us to transform without having to change our form completely.”
Alexandra raised her hand. Edith could see her hands turning into wolf paws with their sharp black nails. Alexandra returned her hand to its original form after a few seconds of leaving it in that shape.
“Sorry, I only learned about the existence of Lycan after meeting you. Alpha never told me about the Lycans.”
“Our numbers are dwindling. The few remaining packs gathered in Greece. Most of us couldn’t survive because we couldn’t adjust to humans’ modernization. Unlike werewolves, who are willing to have mates other than wolves,”
Edith caught the point Alexandra was getting at. Naturally, Edith had just heard of the Lycans’s existence.
“Twilight is always beautiful.” Edith tried to bring up another topic of conversation.
“It reminds me of my mate. We enjoyed the twilight sky together before he was slaughtered by Matthieu during our honeymoon night in Paris. He made the ultimate sacrifice so that I could escape, but what can a pregnant woman do?”
“I’m sorry,”
Edith did not continue speaking. She sensed the bitterness in the woman’s tone. Edith could not imagine how she would be if she were in the same position-losing her partner.
They just enjoyed the sky, which turned perfectly black. Both of them entered the pack house after Julie fell asleep on Edith’s lap. Her short conversation with Alexandra made her sympathise with the woman.
They passed Seth, who had just come out of his office. Seth gave Alexandra a quick glance and then turned his attention to Edith. Edith had intended to meet Seth in his study, but since they had already crossed paths, Edith immediately said, “I have something to talk to you about, Alpha.”
Edith followed Seth into the room. Before they could talk, Edith laid baby Julie down in her baby box. Edith hugged Seth tightly as he walked towards the bed.
“I’m lucky to have you by my side. I can’t imagine what I would be like without you, Seth.”
“Maybe death is better than living without someone you love. I’m guessing you guys have shared some sad stories with each other, huh?”
“Yes. Alexandra lost her mate while they were on their honeymoon in Paris. Matthieu killed her husband.” Edith released her embrace and looked at Seth meaningfully.
“Speaking of Matthieu: We have to attend the Idris council hearing as witnesses in Matthieu’s case. The hearing will be held in two weeks.”
“What will it be like?” asked Edith, frowning.
“I don’t know either.”
