“Are you guys ready?”
Eva had already spread her arms out to the sides. One more hand movement from her, and the portal would open directly in front of them. The six people behind her nodded, and they saw a circular portal open immediately afterwards.
They entered the portal that led them to the city of Stockholm to attend the hearing regarding the Supreme Alpha’s death.
“I’m feeling sick to my stomach!” said Seth, who was already breaking out in a cold sweat.
“The Idris Council building has a huge energy field that this portal is exposed to. You wolves can’t do magic, so that’s why you feel sick. Unlike Edith and I, who have magic ability, we can instinctively counteract it.”
“I would rather choose to run on four legs than enter a portal. I have to put up with that because my wife and I are travelling. My head is seriously spinning from this. Seth complained.
“Hang in there; we’ll be there in a bit!” Eva said, calming Seth, who was already very pale.
The end of the portal showed a view of the hot afternoon, a sign that they had arrived at their destination. They stepped out of the portal and stood in front of the eagle gargoyle. Seth walked a little away from them and started vomiting liquid from his stomach.
“Are you okay, Seth?” asked a worried-looking Edith.
“I was a little relieved after spitting it out, but my head is still dizzy.”
“Maybe you’re stressed; give me your hand,” pleaded Edith, who immediately grasped her husband’s hand tightly.
Edith channelled her healing magic on Seth. While doing so, Edith could feel a huge magic energy field from underneath her feet. She felt powerful magic moving on the ground.
“The building is underground. This gargoyle is the entrance.” Eva informed the six people who came with her.
Eva touched the eagle’s head and made a pattern with her forefinger. After a minute’s wait, the gargoyle moved backwards and revealed a large hole below where it had been.
From the hole emerged a glass box that could accommodate about eight people. All pairs of eyes except Eva’s looked at the glass box, which opened automatically.
“Let’s go in,” said Eva.
Seth, Edith, and the others followed Eva’s lead. With steady steps, everyone entered the glass box, which turned out to be a lift. Eva answered the disembodied voice that asked where they were going.
Seth felt that the lift was moving down very quickly. He could not clearly see the outside of the lift because of the express movement. In one blink of Seth’s eyes, the lift had stopped, and the glass door behind them had opened.
“7th floor; courtroom”
The disembodied voice came back and informed them that this was the floor they were heading to. Edith was amazed after stepping out of the lift. Right in front of her, Edith saw several small fairies, no taller than a five-year-old child, flying past with cauldrons in their hands.
Seeing Edith’s astonishment at the little green fairies, Eva explained, “They were carrying cauldrons filled with the elixir of honesty. Every time, before attending court, the witnesses or the accused would be told to drink the potion first. The spell contained therein is unbreakable.
Edith rounded her lips. She understood that everything that happened in this place was governed by magic. She briefly recalled the Black Bold, which was more dominated by werewolves and vampires. Of course, since it was a prison, it definitely required the extra physical strength of the werewolf and the precision and sharpness of the mind of the vampire clan.
As for this place, it was clear to Edith that it was a place that required extra magic power to carry out all activities related to the three superiors of the supernatural world on this earth. Everything always comes from magic!
“Over the course of a day, the judicial council will hold several hearings. You can see it in this long list. Ah, we’re fifth in line, and right now they’re hearing the second case in line,” Eva added with a nod of her head towards the floating object beside her.
Their gazes were drawn to the black-coloured parchment floating on the wall beside the entrance to the courtroom. Edith observed the neon ink that was running like the running text on news programmes in the human world and read the information that Eva had already conveyed.
“Have you been here often, dear?” asked Will, who had just opened his voice after silently observing his girlfriend.
“Given my position as the highest witch leader in all of mainland Britain, I often serve as a juror for witches who commit offences. So do the Supreme Alpha and Lord Vampire, Mikael de La Croix.”
“What kind of forbidden magic is often violated?” Edith asked with a serious face and knitted brows.
“Black magic is like what happened to Seth back then. Magic that is used to make humans or other supernatural beings go mad, tortured, or lose their lives.”
“What about creatures that are not witches, for example, werewolves, but use magic to commit offences? Are you on the judge?” Seth then asked out of curiosity.
“This is where I am right now. I will be the juror for your case. Matthieu used some magic to restrain Seth and torture the Lycan.”
“Are you going to speak out in our defence?” Seth was still curious, and his tone was very demanding.
“I can’t divulge that, but you know I’m there to help you guys, right?”
“I understand; it’s your job as leader.” said Seth a little confidently.
“Come with me; we’ll wait in the court waiting room.”
Eva led them to the room opposite the courtroom door. Edith followed right behind the witch. Her steps led to the waiting room, which looked more like a monitoring room with glass surrounding them, so Edith could see the proceedings below. The place they were in was not too high up, and Edith could even hear the faint sounds of voices exchanging in the courtroom.
Edith saw a figure standing in the centre. A pale-skinned man about five feet, three inches tall, Edith felt an overwhelming sense of horror after she saw his face. Edith watched as his eyes darted around the room to look at the figures sitting and talking about him.
A second later, Edith listened to the decision made by the man. Instead of looking regretful or sad, Edith caught a wicked grin on his lips.
Edith heard the sound of a loud object that echoed throughout the room. From above, sunlight streamed in, and slowly but surely, the man’s body turned into ashes.
Edith was wide-eyed at what had just happened down there. Her heart was pounding with anxiety, which accompanied every bad thought that might happen to Seth.
“He massacred an entire village and fucked every underage girl in the village before sucking their blood dry.” Eva whispered, making Edith shudder in horror.
“What is the usual punishment for a werewolf who commits a serious offence like that vampire, Eva?”
