Baby, Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough

Book:The ExtraOrdinary Luna Published:2025-3-6

“Because you are their Luna, Edith. They need you even though your feelings are still wavering towards Seth; don’t make that an excuse for you to avoid. After all, it is your destiny to be a Luna of the Red Crescent Moon. Especially Skyler; she needs her father, and they are wolves. Wolves need their pack. Don’t look at me; I’m an oddity in the realm. Werewolf laws don’t work on me. I’m used to being alone.”
Edith fell silent as soon as she heard the last sentence from Kai. She could not ignore that fact. They both had the right to meet, and Edith could not deny it.
Edith had indeed remembered everything when she died yesterday. Her memory returned when she was in the Veela State, so all the events that happened a year ago were clearly displayed in her memory. Edith herself did not understand why her reaction was like this. Either angry or helpless, these two things were very confusing to her.
Edith thought of another possibility. She became helpless because she couldn’t do any magic to save Seth without having to make herself die because the curse turned on her. Edith repeatedly reassured her feelings to confirm that she still loved Seth, but she felt as if there was a veil blocking them both.
“So, what’s your answer?” asked Kai, breaking Edith’s reverie.
“I’ll think about it, Kai. Give me some time.”
Kai took a step forward and had already kissed Edith’s lips briefly. Edith snapped her fingers in the air and dropped snow on Kai’s head. The man immediately grumbled in annoyance and walked away from her while swearing under his breath.
After Kai disappeared from her sight, Edith thought again about her status as Luna. She knew that this status was heavy for her. Her memory returned to the moment when she and Kai were about to have sex. She suddenly felt short of breath, and all the bones in her body felt like they were going to break. Kai undid his intention to touch her body and stopped him right then and there.
Edith heard Kai’s description when the man saw the chains that bound Edith at that time. Edith didn’t realise it at the time. She could only moan in pain.
Edith also remembers when she became an astral projection for Seth to watch over her and take care of her. Edith would send her soul to simply inform him of the brutal acts Seth was about to commit or keep him company when he was asleep.
Since there was always a way for the two of them to be reunited, even if it went against the will of nature, Edith started to believe that fate could never separate either of them. All of her past came to her slowly during her trip to London.
Here, Edith was standing in front of the Red Crescent Moon pack house. thriving and whole in every way. Without going through the Veela connections of the immortal mate hierarchy, she was brought back to life and totally became immortal.
“Hello Edith, you’re back.”
Seth became awkward even in front of his own wife. Edith only smiled faintly when she saw Seth, who stood before her with a deep gaze. For a moment, Seth stared blankly at the air, and the next second, Julian appeared from the corridor on a run and immediately threw his arms around Edith.
“Mummy, I missed you so much,” said Julian, who buried his head in Edith’s shoulder.
“Mummy missed you too. You’ve grown so tall and so fast.”
“Yeah, dad said that Future Alpha has to be tall and well-built to lead the pack.”
Edith looked back at Seth. She saw a smile etched on his face that had been looking sombre. At first glance, Edith thought Seth was still his old self, unchanged.
“I want to see Julie; can I call her Julie, mum?” asked Julian as he looked at Kai, who was holding Skyler.
“Of course, dear, she’s your sister,” Edith replied.
Julian walked over to Kai and stood on his toes, as his body was still too short to see Skyler, who was above his head.
“Uncle Kai, put him down. I want to see her face.”
“Isn’t her name Skyler?” asked Seth, who had been watching the interaction between Edith and Julian. He was also very curious to see his daughter’s face more closely, but he still felt awkward doing so considering Edith’s welcome to him was quite cold.
“Only Kai calls her Skyler, but I gave her the name Juliette, like you wanted.”
“How did you remember that one? Did you remember everything, Edith?”
“Yes, I remembered everything after you ripped my head off, Seth,” said Edith flatly.
“Are you tired?” asked Seth after Kai and Julian moved away from them.
“No, why would I be?”
“I want to talk to you, Edith. You and me alone.” Seth insisted, but in a soft tone.
Edith nodded. She had expected this to happen. Seth would definitely ask her to talk about the situation between them. She had prepared herself for this. With steady steps, Edith followed Seth to one of the rooms-their room.
“We can talk in your workroom, Seth. Why did you bring me here?”
“I missed you, Edith. I almost went crazy when I realised you were gone from my side.”
Seth had already landed a kiss on her lips. Edith gasped, as she did not expect him to do that so quickly.
Edith didn’t want to be hypocritical, and she enjoyed it. A strange sensation arose from within her. She began to close her eyes and savour every soft lick of his lips touching every inch of her lips.
Seth felt Edith kiss him back, and he deepened the kiss and pushed Edith until her back was pressed against the wall. Seth felt Edith’s hands in his hair, and it turned him on even more.
Seth lowered his kisses to Edith’s neck. Edith gave Seth access to continue to touch her neck wildly, and the next second, the soft moan that Seth had been longing for was heard.
However, Edith soon realised this as soon as Seth’s hands started to fumble with the buttons of her blouse. She quickly brushed it off and held Seth’s body so that the distance between them began to widen.
“What’s wrong, Edith? Why did you stop?” Seth asked in surprise.
“I can’t do it; I’m sorry.”
Edith had already pulled herself up to be as far away from Seth as possible. She folded her hands and bowed her head. She wanted to preserve Kai’s feelings for someone who had been so kind to her. She couldn’t just ignore Kai by making out with Seth.
“But why? I thought you missed me. Don’t you love me anymore?”
“Sometimes love just ain’t enough. I take care of Kai’s feelings. He’s been so kind to me.”
“But he’s just another person, and I’m your mate!” protested Seth, who was already growling in annoyance.
“I know that; please give me time,” said Edith.
“Fucking shit! Why are you always thinking about other people? Do you know how miserable I was when my mate left?”
Without answering Seth’s question, Edith walked away, leaving him overcome with anger. Edith was not wrong about her feelings. She still loved Seth, but her love for Seth was still not enough to fix things between them.
Edith didn’t know what she should do.
What could be more meaningful than love itself?
