“I’m sorry, Seth.”
When Edith thought back to the last time she spoke with Seth, she could only stammer feebly as she sat on the edge of the bed. She has such a range of emotions. She was currently experiencing the feeling of wanting him but being powerless to act on it.
She inhaled deeply and started making her way back to the great hall. Julian was holding his sister in that room as Seth-like laughter could be heard coming from him. She made the decision to go outside for some fresh air because the sight made her heart hurt even more.
While contemplating how to repair her relationship with Seth and how to reclaim her role as Red Crescent Moon’s Luna, Edith wandered slowly in the front yard. Compared to when she left the pack house a year prior, the pack was quieter.
She had recently become aware of Seth’s parents, for example. Since she got to this residence, Edith has not seen them. When Edith’s body was blindfolded from behind and she sensed breathing in her ears, she was startled.
The voice said, “Guess who I am?”
Edith exclaimed, “Jenny!”
“How do you know?”
Turning around, Edith noticed Jenny’s reddish hair covering some of her face as it blew in the breeze.
“I’ve memorised your voice, and you’ve always been expressive.”
“Oh, I guess I forgot. How are you, Luna Edith? I miss you. Is it true that I’ve heard you struggle with memory loss?”
“Yes, just till I pass away so I can remember everything when I resurrect.”
“What do you mean, Luna?”
As soon as Jen saw Edith open her mouth and reveal her fangs, her face immediately changed. Her green eyes darkened to a deep scarlet. Edith recounted the events after she exchanged her life with Seth. Edith spoke softly as she referred to herself as a vampire.
“So that’s why you’re acting so depressed, right? I don’t even mind if you shift into a dragon, Edith. I’m your best friend; don’t ever believe that, even if you drink human blood in front of me, my attitude towards you would change. Even though I admire you for your kindness, I already possess enough knowledge.”
“You feel that way?” Edith gave Jen a serious look.
“Absolutely. I couldn’t give myself up for someone the way you did with Alpha Seth. You are the most selfless person I have ever met. The other pack members will probably also comprehend that their Luna became this way by rescuing their Alpha.”
As Edith considered Jen’s remarks, she remained silent. She was still a monster that drank blood. She already felt burdened by her negative Veela side, so how could she possibly lose her humanity as well? She was most afraid of that.
Edith bowed her head. “Will everything go back to the way it was, Jen?”
“Sure, that. The Moon Goddess chose you to be the Luna she wanted for us. Alpha-Seth is with you. You must stay together at all times. There will always be a solution to any issues that may arise. All you have to do, Luna, is find peace within yourself.”
“Everything seems to be working against me, and I feel helpless.”
“For your information, Seth is terribly tormented. Since you left, he’s become like an insane person who constantly throws outbursts, returning to his previous behaviour. Not to mention that Supreme Alpha made Chris and Hope care for those vicious convicts. That only makes Seth worse.”
“What do you mean, Jen? What have I missed?”
“The werewolf pack in this realm is led by Supreme Alpha, whose position is being sought after by all. Seth’s grandfather, Kellan McKirby, recommended that Chris succeed him, but Chris turned it down since he preferred to concentrate on Red Crescent Moon. Tobias Knight, an Alpha who is nonetheless a distant relative of Seth, was chosen to fill the positions. Afterward, there were rumours that Tobias would give Chris his position back once Seth became Alpha Red Crescent Moon. I heard that the attack on Chris was scripted by Alpha Matthieu of Les Grondeurs Lupins, who has been vying for the role for a while.”
“By the Moon Goddess, how bad is the situation? Why did Seth not tell me at the time? I had previously assumed the werewolf race to be harmless.”
“Perhaps Seth didn’t want to bother you because you constantly put other people before yourself. According to what I heard, Alpha Matthieu was also responsible for the attack on Seth because it was widely believed that Seth’s strength was considered a privilege among the wolves. In order to get the backing of the entire pack, Seth has also developed broad relationships.”
“Wait… so Alpha Matthieu was responsible for all of the attacks? All of the attacks involved vampires and witches, so it can’t be merely the desire to become the Supreme Alpha. Seth was attacked by a witch, Chris by a vampire, and I was taken hostage by a vampire from France. Jen, it can’t all be coincidence.”
“That’s the rumours set and it might be that way. When you’re not by his side, Seth struggles to make sense of this thing since it is so complicated. I’m not defending him; I’m just stating the facts. Without its mate, a wolf is vulnerable.
“That’s not the only issue, Jen. I just want to respect Kai’s feelings because I feel like I owe him a lot. I find it difficult.”
Both of them were already sitting on one of the benches under the maple tree in the corner of the courtyard. Jen takes Edith’s hand and holds it tightly.
“You can do it slowly. When it comes to the heart, it takes time to heal. At the end of the day, you are meant to be together; no one can defy the destiny that the Moon Goddess has determined.”
Edith grabbed her body to hug her. She felt a little relieved as a fresh breeze soothed her heart. Her words had awakened her. Edith still hoped that she and Seth would go back to the way they used to be.
“Thank you, Jen! You’re my best friend.”
Edith straightened up and ran into the house. She searched for Seth’s whereabouts, wanting to see him immediately and straighten out everything that had been stuck in her heart.
Edith was already standing in front of Seth’s door. She squeezed her hands together and made her toes play with the patterns on the floor. Seth noticed her act in the distance, which made the corners of his lips turn up.
Seth’s voice made Edith gasp in surprise. She only opened her mouth but did not make a sound because she was too nervous. Seth caught Edith’s mischievous movements; he was thinking of teasing his wife, who already looked like an innocent-faced rabbit.
“I want to talk to you, Alpha Seth.”
“We can talk inside if you wish, Luna.”
“Alright.”
Seth opened the door for Edith and let her into his room. A few minutes passed. Edith still looked awkward enough to start a conversation.
“Do you want to keep standing there, or do you want to tell me something?”
“Um, I want to…”
“Yes…” Seth raised one eyebrow and took a step closer to Edith.
“I want us to…”
“We what…” Seth took another step closer.
“We start again from the beginning. I’m sorry that I’ve upset you, made you angry, or that I don’t know how you really feel. I just feel like I’ve been deliberately avoiding you.”
“So?”
“I want to take you to a world of silver.”
