Twilight
Godiva PoV “Where am I?” As far as my eyes could see, there was only an endless ocean below. From where I sat, the horizon was painted with hues of orange, contrasting against the darkening sky. The sound of seagulls above accompanied my curious gaze as I took in my surroundings. “Twilight evenings are truly beautiful.” Turning my head, I saw a man with tan skin and shoulder-length brown hair. His slightly graying beard hinted at his age, and his deep voice carried the weight of experience. Life? The thought triggered a memory. The last thing I remembered was Castor Melucci cradling my body in his strong arms, tears brimming in the Alpha’s eyes. “Am I dead?” I finally broke my silence, my voice trembling. “Yes and no.” “What do you mean?” “It depends entirely on you. My wife always spoke in riddles, and I suspect she has done the same to you.” Hearing his words, I tilted my head in confusion, my brows furrowing. ‘How does he know my mother?’ “You must be full of questions, aren’t you?” I nodded quickly, staring intently at him. His face felt strangely familiar, like someone from a distant memory. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he began to speak. “I met her while hunting…” He recounted the story of how he met my mother-the awkwardness he felt until he realized she was his mate. My mouth hung slightly open as he concluded his story with a tragic ending. “She named you Godiva, just as I requested.” “Dad… I mean, Alpha King. I’m sorry I didn’t realize it.” “Yeah, we finally met. I’ve been waiting for you, my child.” I didn’t care if he thought of me as a little girl. I threw myself into his arms, hugging him tightly. He felt real. Nothing could replace the happiness I felt at that moment. I had longed to meet my biological father since discovering my true identity, but it saddened me that it happened under these circumstances. Lowering my head, I tried to hide my sorrow from him. “I’m sorry I was never there for you, Godiva.” “Please don’t say that, Dad. We can’t change destiny. I’m just happy we finally met.” “Did the Amatore children treat you well?” “They were kind to me. You don’t need to worry,” I replied with a smile. I needed to show him my happiness. Even in what seemed like my final moments, I felt proud of myself for fulfilling my duties as Luna of Moonstone and servant of the Moon Goddess. Dad reached for my hand. His palms were rough, yet I felt a soothing warmth radiating through me. My tears spilled freely as he praised me for my service to the werewolf race. The smile on his lips was a reward greater than anything I had ever received in life. Though I didn’t know if I was truly dead or alive, I still felt life coursing through me. I wasn’t a spirit incapable of touch. My body rested on a wooden bench, sharing its space with my father, basking in a warmth we both cherished. Resting my head on his shoulder, I gazed at the vast ocean below. The towering cliff felt close to the heavens, with clouds drifting just a few feet above my head. “Have you been here long, Dad?” “Since your age now. I died shortly after you were born. From the moment I closed my eyes, I vowed to wait here until I could meet you. Do you see that over there?” Dad pointed toward a sailing ship tethered to the edge of the cliff. Strangely, the ship wasn’t on the water-it hovered in midair. This place seemed to operate on a magic I couldn’t comprehend. “The man with the hat, he’s changed it several times-from a straw hat to that baseball cap,” Dad continued. I spotted a figure wearing a jacket and baseball cap. His face and body shimmered like green light, making it impossible to discern his features. Perhaps he was a supernatural guy assigned to guard the ship. “Why were you waiting for me, Dad?” “There’s something I must do for you. I’ve heard about your mother’s plans for you. Werewolves who find their way here often gossip about an impending war between our kind and the Sanguine Shadows vampire clan. I want to make amends.” He explained that part of the Moon Goddess’s power had been passed on to me. With that power came responsibility and consequences. Dad had waited here to tell me this. The Moon Goddess and other deities across the universe tested their children’s worthiness to receive their blessings. This was my test. Dad described Twilight as a place for werewolves who were lost, waiting, or seeking redemption for their past mistakes. He had asked the Moon Goddess to remain here until we met. My mother had orchestrated everything. As the Moon Goddess, she wielded the power to dictate the fates of us werewolves. Our mates’ and deaths were in her hands. “It’s all up to you, Godiva. Whether you choose to return or not, we, as your parents, will support your decision.” Finally, I understood. The war against the Death Sanguine vampires, my sacrificial ritual, and my death had all been part of her plan. Realizing this, I saw how important my role was in the werewolf world. A glimmer of hope lit up my thoughts. I still had a family to protect. My true mate wouldn’t have anticipated any of this. This was our victory. “How do I return, Dad?” “There’s a gate if you walk north along the cliff. A black wolf will ask for something in exchange for passage. Give him this.” He handed me a small chest. When I opened it, I saw a heart, about the size of my fist, beating faintly. My gaze shifted between the pulsating organ and Dad. He responded to my questioning look with a smile. “Even if you chose to stay here or cross over, I would still give this heart to the wolf. I want to be useful to my daughter.” “So, you’re…” “I’ve fulfilled my duty as a father, even if only briefly.” Once more, I embraced him-a final hug to treasure until we met again. Tears flowed freely, soaking his white robe. He released me in silence, and soon, his body began to glow brightly. I rushed toward the northern gate, pushing against the wind that opposed me. Each drop of sweat was worth every step closer to my destination. When I reached the distorted waves of the gate, I knew this was it. “What will you offer?” asked the black wolf guarding the gate. “The power of Alpha King Silas.” “Hmm, I see…” For a moment, I hesitated, but the next instant, I felt the gate pulling me forward. Its waves reached out, seemingly eager to release me from Twilight. Closing my eyes against the sensation, I waited for what I hoped would come next. “Wait for me…”
