I saw Godiva standing silently, her gaze unreadable as she faced us. Her body radiated a power I had never seen before, amplified by her Luna’s Tone. It made her immovable, untouchable.
As Alpha, I was utterly paralyzed, trapped by an invisible force emanating from her. She glanced at me briefly, her expression an unspoken warning: ‘don’t interfere’. I knew how stubborn she could be, but this time, I wanted to break through that resolve.
I wanted to fight by her side, to tear apart that blonde vampire flaunting his petty betrayal like it was some grand tragedy. I struggled against the invisible bonds, but it was useless. If I could’ve moved, I would’ve snapped the neck of her so-called former cousin without hesitation. A vampire now, his smug grin only fueled my rage.
Even as a human, he was a nuisance. Now, as one of the undead, his presence was unbearable. I had already begged Godiva to ease the effects of her Luna’s Tone on me, but she refused. She insisted this was her battle.
“This is our business, Alpha. If you want to help, go deal with Virgil. Kill him for me,” she said sharply.
Her voice was cold steel, slicing through my pride. It sounded like a command, though I knew it was her plea.
Slowly, I regained control over my body. I watched as Godiva shifted, her form shifting into a wolf that embodied elegance and danger. Without another word, she darted toward the blonde vampire, leaving Castor and me to handle Virgil, who was already retreating into the shadows.
I wasn’t about to waste time. “Castor, we need to catch him.”
Castor nodded silently, and we gave chase. Death Sanguines appeared from the shadows of the forest, attempting to slow us down. I leaped into the fray, claws and fangs tearing through them one by one.
At my side, Castor was in a storm of rage. He obliterated three vampires at once, his ferocity both awe-inspiring and terrifying. His raw fury was palpable, almost suffocating, but I didn’t have time to dwell on it. Virgil was still ahead, slipping farther away.
The stench of vampiric blood-like burning tar-clung to my nose, nauseating and overwhelming. But adrenaline pushed me forward, propelling me through the chaos. My eyes stayed locked on the Savannah ahead, where Virgil moved like a shadow-fast and elusive.
A flicker of worry crossed my mind as I thought about Godiva. Could she handle herself? Vampires driven by vengeance are exponentially more dangerous than those driven only by bloodlust. My paws faltered when I noticed something strange in the distance.
“Castor, look at Godiva!”
Godiva’s figure stood out against the chaos, distorted by a strange energy field. Abstract glimmers surrounded her, like fragmented light scattering in every direction. My chest tightened. Something was wrong.
Castor froze beside me, his body stiff. [No, not now…]
His voice was raw and trembling, his golden eyes fixed on her. He understood, just as I did.
I drew a deep breath, trying to keep my composure. “I’ll stay with Godiva. You need to chase Virgil and kill him,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt.
[I want to be with her… at the end. You go after Virgil,] Castor replied.
I glanced at him, understanding his pain. Castor wasn’t one to give in to emotions easily, but his shimmering eyes betrayed the depth of his love for Godiva. Finally, I gave a solemn nod and turned to continue the hunt.
My steps quickened as I pursued Virgil, his silhouette nearing the edge of the Savannah. My body felt light, even as my heart grew heavier. Somewhere behind me, Godiva was facing her own battle, and I had to trust that she was strong enough to win. I had to focus. I had to kill Virgil.
When I finally caught up to him, we stood face-to-face at the edge of the grasslands. His crimson eyes burned with malice, his fangs bared in a venomous sneer. The tension in the air was palpable, like a bowstring drawn taut.
“You came all this way just to die, Alpha,” he sneered, his voice dripping with mockery.
I didn’t bother to respond. Instead, I lunged at him, claws and fangs seeking his flesh. He moved quickly, dodging with unnatural agility. Our blows collided, each strike reverberating like thunder. The ground beneath us trembled with the force of our battle.
This wasn’t just a fight-it was a war. He was faster, but I was stronger. Our claws clashed midair, our fangs narrowly missing their marks. The heat of the skirmish was suffocating, every wound a searing reminder of how much was at stake.
This wasn’t about victory or defeat; it was about justice for all the blood he’d spilled, for the pain he’d inflicted on my pack.
As the fight raged on, my peripheral vision caught a glimpse of Godiva. She stood in the distance, wrapped in Castor’s arms. Her body shimmered, dissolving into wisps of smoke carried away by the wind.
I froze.
“Godiva…” I whispered, my voice barely audible above the chaos.
A new kind of pain pierced my chest, sharper than any claw or fang. This was her final moment, and I couldn’t be there.
My heart clenched, the weight of loss suffocating me. Each breath felt heavier, crushing. Was this what it meant to lose someone?
My vision blurred with tears. I hated myself for it-for the grief that overwhelmed me, for the helplessness that came with it. But that grief soon gave way to rage, a burning fury that consumed me.
This was Virgil’s doing. He had orchestrated this chaos, driven us to the brink. He had to pay.
As his cruel laughter echoed through the air, I launched myself at him with a feral snarl. My claws struck true, sending him sprawling to the ground. We tumbled together, a violent storm of fur and blood.
This wasn’t over. Not until one of us lay dead. And I would make damn sure it wasn’t me.
“Gotcha, motherf**k*r!” Maybe my words would sound like growls to Virgil, but I still showed my fangs in front of his face.
“Arghh!”
I managed to bite off one of his hands. He groaned without breaking, and it made me even more motivated to torture him than this. My next target descended on the vampire’s limbs that they relied on so much.
I pulled one of Virgil’s legs and dragged him by running. A sense of satisfaction raced in my chest when I saw him helpless. Approaching Castor, I slammed Virgil’s body in front of him.
Castor rose with his large brown furry body, approaching Virgil’s body lying on the ground.
“I welcome you to wipe him off… brother.”
