Castor PoV.
“What are you up to?”
I heard Alvise yelling at the curly blonde vampire, who was kneeling with both hands bound in chains. I had modified the chain with my poison to weaken its power. As a hereditary generation, we have a deadly poison for vampires.
It had been two hours since I had been in the damp and musty-smelling room, but the vampire in front of me had yet to open his mouth. I admit he is a tough vampire; my poison only paralyzed his two hands. Besides, he has twenty-four hours to enjoy the rest of his life. After that, he would shrink and then die.
My mind was briefly diverted to Godiva. I felt happiness even though I was fed up with this vampire. I could still calmly deal with the ignorant vampire who would not talk about Sanguine Shadows; it was because of Godiva.
“I have no patience with him, Al.”
“What are you going to do to him, Alpha Castor?”
“See to it.”
I raised my left hand into the air. Within seconds, my hand turned black with sharp, elongated nails. I stepped steadily toward the vampire and bent down to look at his face.
I pulled roughly on his hair so that his face was turned toward me. I wanted to see his expression before I tore out his heart. I wanted to show my werewolf power so they wouldn’t underestimate us anymore. It was a big mistake for the Sanguine Shadows to have entered Moonstone Pack territory.
“Don’t want to speak, huh? Maybe your heart will tell after I squeeze it.”
I was already touching his chest when the vampire’s voice stopped my movement. I could see the erratic movement of his eyes along with his writhing body. I did not care; I had already given him a chance earlier.
I pressed against his chest cavity with the strength of my claws. Amidst the vampire’s screams, I pierced through his ribs and pulled out his heart. There was an instant silence. I bit off the lump of flesh in my hand and left half of its shape.
“Send the rest of his heart and head to them. I don’t like being belittled.”
“Do you have any words to say to slip into the container?”
“Say: I await their apology for encroaching on what I consider reconnaissance territory for the Moonstone pack.”
“Anything else, Alpha?” Alvise raised one eyebrow.
“Prepare some warriors for strict guarding of the entire border. I also want to organize a meeting with the Alpha of the pack in the four quarters. They should also know that vampires have started moving into Burze.”
“What about your wedding, Cas?”
I wiped away the blood that stained my face as I separated the vampire’s head from his body. I also cleaned the remaining flesh stuck to the corner of my lips with my thumb. After resizing my hand to its original form, I cleaned up the remaining blood on my hand.
I grinned slightly when I saw that the vampire’s body was already stiff. A vampire’s heart is not my meal. I just wanted to show the wolf fang marks to Sanguine Shadows.
“My marriage is above all. In front of humans, Pollux will marry Godiva. During the ritual, the two of us will ask for the Moon Goddess’s blessing.”
“Very well. I will schedule your meeting with the Alphas three days after the wedding ritual.”
I relied on Alvise so much. He always organized everything in the pack as neatly and orderly as I wanted. This time I asked him to organize our wedding in the human world as well as in our realm.
I walked out of the cell. As I walked up the slightly elevated path, I heard the sound of metal scraping against the floor, followed by a thud from behind me. I didn’t bother to torture my enemy for too long. My blood was too cold for a werewolf.
I pressed the first floor button after the elevator doors closed. I loved building a dungeon to keep my enemies in. I loved watching them beg for mercy. I always gave them time for that before I took their lives.
Something in front of me jolted me in a split second. I reflexively said, “Godiva?”
I smelled her scent. I felt my pounding heartbeat quicken as the elevator doors opened. I stepped quickly into the front hall to see her face.
I saw her walking behind Pollux with many paper bags in both hands. I put on a smile for her because I knew she was taking my word for it. I was concerned about her clothes, which were too casual. She should have explored her beauty.
I greeted Pollux, to which he immediately returned a brief nod of his head. Then I approached Godiva, who widened her eyes when she saw me. She stayed where she was without making a sound.
“Are you hurt, Castor?”
I gasped. I lowered my gaze and saw that the white shirt I was wearing had turned red on both arms. I had forgotten an important part of the execution.
“It’s not my blood. I was out hunting deer earlier,” I argued.
How could I be this careless? I was in a hurry to see Godiva without thinking about hiding my activities. I waited for Godiva’s reaction, who was frowning with a pounding heart.
“You look creepy.”
My heart sank. Godiva’s reaction made me freeze in place. I was giving her a hideous impression. This was not what I expected.
Plus, her eyes were glued to my arms. I turned around and left Godiva so that she wouldn’t keep seeing me like this. I ran, with my fists clenched as hard as I could, to my room.
I didn’t want Godiva to find out about my dark side before we got married. That would be a significant obstacle that could drive her away from me. I had to hide my and Pollux’s activities until Godiva was truly ours.
I went straight into the bathroom to clean myself up. I saw the red-colored rinse water on the bathroom floor. Why do those damn vampires have to bleed? Fucking hell!
That was what made me hate them. Sanguine Shadows had modified their chromosomes to come out during the day and have blood to mingle with humans. The truce between the Sanguine Shadows and the werewolf race prevented me from simply slaying them.
“Castor?”
I heard Pollux calling me. He must have come into my room because I didn’t lock the door earlier. I washed my body one last time until I felt clean from the thick red liquid.
I turned off the shower and pulled out a towel to wrap around my lower body. I walked out of the bathroom and saw Pollux sitting on the sofa.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Did you execute the vampire?”
I nodded slowly and dried my hair again. I grabbed a black T-shirt and trousers of the same color. Putting them on quickly, I caught myself in the mirror to check my looks.
“Did he say anything?”
“No, he didn’t. He’s a loyal Death Sanguine.”
I saw Pollux touch his chin. He was silent for a moment, but the movement of his eyes made me guess what he was thinking. I admire Pollux’s intuition; he can always read people’s gestures before they tell the truth, and I trust him.
“Don’t you think this is weird, Cas?”
“What’s weird? Tell me, Pol.”
“It has been three decades since a vampire has come to Burze, but why is the timing so perfect when we have found our mate? Are you sure that Godiva is really human?”
